Why Do "We" Leave After Halftime

our homecoming set up is strange... because you have the step show right after the game.... So the greeks usually leave after halftime to go set up.... by the time the game is over the line is wrapped around the gym to get into the step show...students leave the game to change clothes for the step show. I wish we had NIGHT homecomings.

....I'm like you, and on that band tip.

But there have been many occasions where I have left because of the reasons mentioned. And if the visiting band is a no-show? oh I know I'm leaving, I can do something else lol! It dont bother me when folks leave. It is a part of our culture, thats how we get down ~shrugs~

"Snake"

I know, Snake. Gotta keep that cup filled.

I have never left a game right after halftime....

When I was on "The Yard" however, students did leave to get ready for after parties, which often were FREE until a certain time....But at that was back when games began at 7:00pm, now home games begin at 6:00pm...

They need to move them back to 7.

I stop trying to figure that bullsh@t out. It didn't makes since then or now. You can't use the game being sorry as an excuse because JSU was kicking everybody's azz back then. I just can't grasp the concept of a sporting event being a social event.

To many people it is a social event. I mean, folks like to go sporting events to tailgate or hangout inside the arena or stadium to drink and kick it with their friends or family members. Many pro stadiums have so many amenities to attract fans (Dallas Cowboys Stadium) that the game is almost an after thought.

I think at Tropicana Field, where the Tampa Bay Rays play, the yard is turned into a "nightclub" atmosphere following the last out in an effort to attract more fans to the game on the weekends.

As we all know Wrigley Field has been dubbed the world's largest beer garden because of the notion that more people go to Cubs games to hangout than watch baseball.

And then there is the perception that Dodgers fans show up in the third inning and leave by the seventh.

We live in a time where there are groups of people who don't want to go to game just to watch what is happening on the field. At U.S. Cellular Field, folks can buy mobile phones, play video games, hangout in the bar and the kiddies can play in the Fundamentals area.

And with more fans choosing to not attend games due to cost, traffic, unruly patrons etc, I think it would wise for the suits to come up with more ways to get people to the arenas and stay there throughout the entire game.

Homecoming is a different beast. I hate going to the JSU homecoming game becasue people are there who don't want to be there. They are there talking and pointing the whole time. I't like a game is not even going on.

For every other game, I don't see this very much at JSU. When I was in college, my routine was...get to the game by the start or mid first quarter....stay in my seat til halftime. Socialize in the 3rd quarter...walking around the "U" ...and then coming back for the end of the game. I could do that back then because most of the time, I knew JSU was gonna win. Now, I don't socialize as much becasue I'm older and I don't know anybody in that dayum "U". I get to the game early, go to the concession stand/.bathroom early..get to my seat early and stay for the 5th quarter most of the time.

I also think a lot of this started in High School. My HS was sorry so I dayum sho walked around to socialize most of the second half.

Then your older alumni will be upset. They need time to leave the game, eat and get sharp for the alumni party. That is why JSU's Homecoming moved from 7 PM to 3 PM back in 1993 and never moved back. I actually like it that way tho.

I buy season tickets for Grambling's games and for some reason they are about 2 rows behind Mack G's and in between us are some more homeboys...so we kick it the entire game in our seats....hecl when I was in college I went to the game and then kicked it after half-time...heck it's a social event!!! Like Cee Dog said....

leave them youngins alone....with your old ARSE!!!!

:lmao:

I say that people are still not sold on HBCU football games, only the bands, and from what I heard some people don't particularly like watching their team down big before halftime and so they leave. Some people are just probably believe that the band is the most important thing :noidea:!

Why not just call it like it is... because a lot of folks come to see the bands lol

What I don't understand are people who say they stay for the halftime show and the 5th Quarter. I've never stayed for the 5th quarter. Pointless in my opinion. I mean, the band plays throughout much of the game and during halftime. Then you wanna stay for what amounts to the post halftime show-show? Three hours of that noise is not enough? You want more?

Just like some folks can't sit through one inning of baseball. To each his own.

I know, I know. Anytime I'm critical of a sport or a subculture of a sport, people will rebut by saying baseball is boring (because I'm a baseball fan). It's fine. I get it. I understand.

Thats mostly folks that are just REALLY into the band thing for the most part.

Just making an example. I love baseball too.

At UAPB, our Greek show is Friday night. On Saturday after the homecoming game, we have our Greek round-up/roll call. Maybe AAMU could switch the Greek show to Friday nights instead.

Whats confunsing to me is....how can you come to a football game...sit thru 3.5 quarters and leave when the game is tied? I see it every year at the SHC. You spent your money, you spent your time, it took you AT LEAST an hour to get in here, why would you leave now? Isnt this why you are here?

Whatever floats folx boats is okay w/ me. I've sat through >70% of PV's 0-80 losing streak games, incl d 84-7 beatdown by Gram fall '91 & numerous other beatdowns until d clock showed 00:00 4th qrtr. I wanted 2 use those beatdowns as remembrance & catalyst when it was (past tense) time to move in helping to advance PV. I watch football for d competitivity factor only. I never learned abt this socialization/party deal some speak of. That's not a column in d final ledger- W-L. Obviously I don't share too much in common w/ avg fans. If PV was getting blown out, in d rain, 38 degrees, I was there until 00:00 4th qrtr. I didn't socialize w/ any PVers unless they were outwardly & financially willing 2 advance d school. Obviously that would've been 11 of us in d stands lol

I doubt the bands are the main attraction like they once were as the bands have taken a step back in field shows now with shorter field shows and worse execution...If anything, the lack of bands doing anything in the 3rd quarter makes it a dull period and creates an atmosphere for people to leave unless alot,of scoring is going on

but if I pay $26 for a ticket, you better believe I'm there all the way
