Week 5 SWAC Rankings

1. GSU - The boys from Louisiana Normal College are starting to jell. The blow out of TSU was a sign of things to come.

2. JSU - Kent is the man. But the Tigers have enough defense to carry them to the SWAC championship game. They totally embarrassed Southern in the Superdome.

3. Alcorn - The Braves were impressive against a very good Hampton team. The coaching has improved on the reservation. This week will tell if the Braves are for real.

4. Arkansas - Lovelady is leading the Golden Lions to respectability. If the SWAC officials were on their job the Golden Lions would be leading the SWAC West.

5. Alabama State - Crunch time for the Hornets. It ain't going to be easy playing this week on the reservation.

6. TSU - the Tigers from the Lone Star state will make some noise before it's over with.

7. SU - Something is amiss on the bluff. Pete's team looks like they are ready to pack it in. Whatever happen to Victor Ike and the so call jaguar running game?

8. MVSU - Totten and his Delta Devils are going to win a few more games before this season is over.

9. PV - The mind is willing but the body isn't. Panthers may upset someone. But that's about all, they may upset someone.

This weeks picks:

Alcorn vs Alabama state - Definitely the SWAC game of the week. Look for a scalping to take place down on the reservation.

SU vs Nicholls State - No contest. The Jaguars are starting over. They are looking for a qb. Next they'll be looking for some coaches. With the Jaguar Nation it's what have you done for me lately.

GSU vs Langston - A practice game for Doug and the boys from Louisiana Normal College.

JSU vs Valley - Homecoming for the Tigers. Long day for the Delta Devils.

TSU vs Alabama A&M - The Tigers have enough offense to get by Alabama A&M. The Bulldogs struggled last week against PV. The Tigers are a different kind of feline.

Last week: 4-3
Overall: 17 - 10 I'm outa here!!!!!
:lmao:

SOUNDS ABOUT RIGHT. YOU CAN USE ME AS A REFERENCE ON YOUR JOB AP TO SHERIDAN, SPORTS NETWORK, ESPN & USATODAY.

Is Annie Mae below PV since they cheated to beat PV???

IN that case, Grambling should be below Alcorn since they cheated to beat Alcorn. Alcorn should be the #1 team in the SWAC.

IN THAT CASE JSU SHOULDN'T BE RANKED BECAUSE THEY HAVE A 2 DEGREE OF SEPERATION LOSS TO MOREHOUSE.

See there, there you go starting stuff. I wasn't going to say anything at first, but now I got be straight with you.

Alcorn should be ahead of Jackson. I have seen both of you play and the Corn is a better team overall period.

I dont have a problem with that. Alcorn has proven to be more solid than us right now. They might be the best in BCF right now. Until they come see us.

GR,
I agree with you for the most part but I don't understand how you can still (without smack) rank alcorn ahead of GRAMBLING. You ,being one of the real sports fans realize, that the officials are a part of the game. furthermore , you being a SWAC fan for many years have endured what all swac fans have endured for several years ....that being questionable officiating. Not withstanding any of this the fact remains that Alcorn could never be impartially ranked ahead of the G-MEN at this point of the season. Grambling defeated them by six points and Grambling is ARGUABLY playing the best of any team in the swac right NOW. This is not SMACK, SMH@JSULOGIC

I can agree with you on that. GSU should be ahead of Alcorn simply because they defeated them and are the SWAC's hottest team right now. GSU also has two gimme games before they meet UAPB. So UAPB must keep up the good work or GSU will have 3 gimme games.

JSU can really prove something this week by going out and getting rid of Valley early and without the many turnovers.

Alcorn however has too much to lose, but should they beat ASU, then I would say they are the SWACs hottest team.

EVERYONE HAS THEM ON THE SCHEDULE. BUT ACCORDING TO MOST ON THIS INTERNET COMMUNITY, THE ICON WOULD NOT HAVE A WINNING SEASON (i don't mean 6-5). ALL THE INJURIES AND OTHER FINE TUNING WILL BE WORKED OUT BY SHREVEPORT. I HOPE THE GAME IS INTERESTING THIS TIME.

I agree with you ICE

But when you do exactly what you are suppose to do to win a game and the officials steal it from you like they did in Grambling to Alcorn, its kinda hard to respect Gramblings record. The officials have cost 3 teams a game so far this season. This crap just has to stop. This has gone beyond a questionable pass interference call to not even being able to count the number of people on the DAMN field, 3 PLAYS IN A ROW.

Grambling is playing well right now, so I give props. There is no smack in this post. Even though we know my team is the best in the SWAC, right now they are only playing like the 3rd best team. Time will tell the real from the fakers.

HOW CAN YOU NOT RESPECT GRAM RECORD.THEY BEAT ALCORN IN A CLOSE GAME.THE REFES MAY HAVE CHEATED BUT THEY MADE THE CALL.THEY LOST. THEN GRAM BEATS TENN STATE. A TEAM THAT JACKSON COULD NOT KEEP FROM SCORING ON THEM .NOT ONLY DO GRAM BEAT THEM THEY BLOW THEM OUT.COME ON NOW GRAM IS OBVIOUSLY ABOVE OTHER BCF TEAMS.IF ALCORN PLAYS GRAM IN THE SCG THEY WON'T SCORE ON GRAM UNTIL THE 4TH WHE N THE RESERVES ARE IN.OCT 26 WILL BE GREAT .THE TRUTH WILL COME OUT.

Boy please:rolleyes: You all would not win the 2nd time. Believe me. You all robbed us of that game, plain and simple. :redhot:

I was there and Grambling won outright

Alcorn could not stop Grambling in the second half period..... Get Ready since you were there how was Alcorn cheated out the game? I must have missed something. What I saw was a second half beating of the Braves. The referees did not cheat 27 points, that were scored in the second half. I only saw two questionable calls in the second half, one for Grambling and one against Grambling, that resulted in Alcorn tying the score at 35 apiece. Grambling with less then a minute drove the entire field to win. Grambling gave Alcorn the ball and a huge penalty with 11 seconds left, that had them 1 and ten at GSU 40, Carrie was sacked to to seal the game, is what I saw.

....How about..

...a little help from the BR Advocate...

Inside the SWAC: Wed., Sept. 25, 2002

THE RATING GAME
1. Grambling: Tigers roar back to top with three-game streak
2. Jackson State: Can win SWAC if D plays like O
3. Alabama State: Maybe 3-0 start was misleading
4. Alcorn State: Braves are dangerous team
5. Southern: 1-3 start punctuated by Jackson State thumping
6. Ark.-Pine Bluff: Loving new QB Lovelady
7. Texas Southern: Losses by 3, 11 and 7 points
8. Alabama A&M: A mere 210 passing yards in three games
9. Miss. Valley: Still a long way from contention
10. Prairie View: 34 points in four games

ON THE SCHEDULE
TOP TICKET: Alabama State at Alcorn State, Jack Spinks Stadium, Lorman, Miss.
A pivotal game between two Eastern Division contenders. Neither team can afford a second loss prior to having to face Jackson State. Alcorn is coming off a big win over Hampton. Alabama State, last year's Eastern champ, is coming off a loss to UAPB.
NOTES
GRAMBLING:
The Tigers (3-1) have won three straight games and entertain Division II Langston on Saturday. On Oct. 5, Grambling plays Prairie View (0-4) in Dallas before an open week.

"We hope to get out of September in pretty good shape," Williams said. "We feel like with five games under our belt we should have matured a little more before going into the meat of the season. I feel like each week we are maturing."
