Living Legend
or has FAMU fallen off dramatically.......? i was at the SU/FAM game earlier today and it wasnt even close.....fam got us on the field as far as house(in my opinion) but them stands.......Lord help them kids. when i was in the band Fam used to really give us a run....in the 5th they really sounded like they gave up......im not used to that. i was really expecting at least a close battle....but it was no where near one. The Almighty "S" just trampled them silly snakes in the stands and we drilled them to sleep. we gotta work on that soulja boy though! but it was total dominance from my point of view and honestly, thats not what i wanted to see. it was like pepe le pu finally screwing the cat, or the coyote finally eatin the roadrunner.......famu just didnt impress me at all. and i actually like fam. looks like the "S" will run the table again this year huh?

I think they may have gotten more house for two reasons. I think they had a few more fans, and you know how our fans are; they have seen the Juke do everything and they are sometimes fair-weather. For our fans, they said all that I wanted to hear them say when they booed fam for playing "traditional" Jukebox songs.

All in all, I enjoyed both bands, but the nod goes to the "S".

I'm gonn be honest (as always) I was disappointed with the Jukes on the field. Mistakes, not knowing the show, girls on the wrong foot, wack dance routine!

Chalk it up to first week jitters.......Hell no! the Jukebox is nothing if not presise and crisp, but the just didn't seem that way to me. More time on the practice field and less time on the internet is needed.

But FAMU did get slaughtered. No drill, walked on field then got on the ground ( I thought it was called a marching band) . And in the stands there was no contest. The jukebox was excellent in the stands(as always)! Fam was B O R I N G !

I was truly shocked by FAMU. I think they are over hyped and overrated. For a band of that size their sound should be more dominate. Their lines on the field were crooked on the left handed size. I was however truly impressed with Southern sound compared to FAMU. That Michael McDonald song in the fifth was unexpected and sounded very good. But the whole game SU sounded good so that was expected.

For the record, I predicted that the magnitude of Doc Foster's retirement wouldnt be felt immediately. I felt his absence wouldnt' become evident until a few seasons after his departure. I am very much aware that this was the first game. I will probably need to see them once more before my theory becomes 100% gold.

Oh, and Im' also an advocate of PSYCHOLOGICAL band warfare. In MY opinion SU should have had on their UNIS. The uniform is what gives a band a more INVINCIBLE look. Although Clark Kent has the SAME power in that suit and thick pair of glasses..........he just seems more of a STUD with that "S" on his chest. (no pun intended)

Jags....your show was pretty average, but enjoyable. You sounded great. Expecting EXCELLENCE from you and FAMU is simply gving you guys credit for your past accomplishments.

Yeah, what was up with the dayum shorts. Looked kinda country to me. Why do that on NATIONAL television? Was that part of the agreement? Dayum that was a major F-up on su's part. Short pants??

I gotta agree with JayRob on this on, when I saw the Juke Box in those shorts and T-Shirts it didn't look good at all. Mr. Jackson knew months ago that this was a nationally televised game and that the University MUST be shown in a positive light.

SU uniforms are just that "The S" when you see them you know you are in for an ARSE whipping. I can see if it was raining of something, but hey who know his reason for not being in uniform..........

:splat::splat:mannnnnnn all of the alumni that i was with at the game and all my line brothers and other former southern bandsmen were OUTRAGED! the only time we wore practice uniforms at a game was in 2001 and it had rained real hard and the field was muddy....but we didnt wear hats and we didnt have an opposing band, and we werent on tv! especiaLLY not ESPN! mr. J is wrong for that. even though it was hot as a barbeque at satans house.......they shoulda wore travel suits or something! *note to mr J. ......dont ever do that isht again!*:shame:

FAMU hasn't fallen off. I think the way bandheads view certain things, like song selection and overall approach to playing, has changed. People get so caught up in the "technicalities" of a field show, that is if the band doesn't do a "drill" or if the drill isn't squad-based, then they haven't done a complete show. FAMU could march to different formations during the dance routine, but somehow that gets dismissed, and folks will say that all they did was dance. Also, FAMU could play a variety of music, but if the book isn't dominated by top 40, somehow FAMU doesn't have a book or is boring, which is interesting considering that we are supposed to be musicians, and should have an appreciation for other types of music, like a well-played march (this is "marching" band right?)

In short, I think the prevailing view of bandheads today favors a band like SU. It's a paradigm shift that has taken place overe a number of years, and not necessarily a reflection of whether FAMU has declined.

....please supply facts and research to support your theory or excuse making in place of giving credit to su.

I was at the game. FAMU and SU are like apples and oranges. They both bring totally different styles to the table.
FAMU had a better halftime show as far as musical selections! That Teach Me How To Love scored BIG with me! ... though I wasn't the craziest about the arrangement. But it sounded GOOD! I can't fairly call it in the stands, because I enjoyed both bands equally.

Never really paid attention to SU's version of Neck until yesterday. I have to say that is the most funkiest Neck I have EVER heard! I LOVED it!

I know ya'll SU folks didn't like the practice uniforms, but SU still looked good in the stands and on the field. And considering the heat yesterday for a 2 p.m. game and that ya'll were FACING the sun, I think it was pretty appropriate!

Glad u said it. Im on Dr.J's side: its too dayum hot to be wearing unis.

I thought SU and FAMU both had good shows. I must say, I felt sorry for the kids in FAMU band. They must have been burning up. It was so hot on SU side that I moved to FAMU side of the field. Keep up the good work.

I disagree. it looked tacky and i was very dissappointed. Take your tops off in the stands but on the field, always suit up, especially on tv. Band unis are always hot. no excuses.

I didn't think about the televised part. Yeah, it would've been better to have on uniforms for TV. But SU still brought a clean, uniformed look.

+1 on this.

I love the look and tradition of "The S" and wore it proudly Back in the day but reality is reality.

With all of the emphasis on heatstroke these days (specifically among NFL players recently), Dr. J is correct in prioritizing the health of his students.

Considering that it was a day game in borderline dangerous heat/humidity, better to be safe than sorry.

There was a couple of Hunnerd's that had a bit of heat trouble. Even THEY had to take off their tops...and, got passed water 2 times before the 2nd half even started.

You're right.....Doc would've had them in uni's, most likely. But, that ain't Doc the 80'sum'n y/o "Ike Like" old'schooler you're dealing with. Jackson is in charge. And, Jackson is going to be way more concerned than Doc would've been. That's just how it is.

For me...as much as I didn't like the shirts and shorts thing....it's hard to go against today's times and Jackson's decision. Bottomline...mu'fuggas are passing out now days...and, sometimes even worse. And, I don't think Jackson is willing to take the risk. Not like that...sitting on that side of the stadium. In fact, I don't think SU's side EVER got shade. So, as much as you and I might hate it...Jackson has females to think of now. He has parents to think of. He has kids to keep from passing out out there.

Face it, ol'schoolers....times have changed. Kids have changed....*shrugs*

They may not have passed out, but they sure were blown out....Right off the field and out of the stadium......This was no contest.....The Once Was, was destroyed by the Alpha and the Omega.....The Beginning and the Ending.......Forever and Ever the "S"......Amen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was HOT..............Period.....
Like i have said on the other sites,,,,,

This heat was way more intense then from the old School era.......
Plus that turf is full of shredded tires which brought the heat on the field up even more..........

Its called safety first...............

i understand alot of your views because it was national TV.............
It was a command decision that was made by Mr. Jackson and his staff...

So it is over and done............................
..................

Oh by the way...FAMU pulled their tops off so ....
please focus on that.............You can not talk about just one school........

Both Dr. White (FAMU) and Mr. Lawrence Jackson did what had to be done to protect their students.......................................
