VH1 Soul.....Who Has It?....and

D-NICE

Retired Milkman
who checks it out? I'm not much a video person (at least BET crushed that), but if you like music video's, and don't want to stay up past midnight to watch Midnight Love on BET, then this is definitely the station for you.

They show all genre's of black music, and up to date video's as well as old school. The other night I saw the "Dial My Heart" video by The Boyz, . I jumped off the couch, and reverted back to my mid teen-age years.

They've shown everything from vintage Big Daddy Kane, Heavy D & The Boyz, Guy, Public Enemy, 2 Live Crew, The Deal, Silk, Troop, MC Lyte, MC Hammer, Jade, Jodi Whatley, Wrecks N Effect, Timex Social Club, En Vogue, to Arrested Development, Amel Lerrieux, TLC, Keith Sweat, and Al B. Sure. If you liked it, they show it, and not just one video from 1998 that 106th & Park tries to pawn off as da Old School Joint Of The Day either.

Soul has slowly become one of my favorite cabel channels, and is slowly creeping up on most watched, because outside of video's they show the artist in live club settings. Whether it's a VH1 show, or just a show they taped.

Last week they showed live concerts of Floetry, Martin Luther, Lyfe, and Lela James.

If you have digital cabel, you should defintely check it out, if you're not watching it already.

NICE

I love this channel. My biggest fear is that they will start to show commercials. But in the currnt format it is great. I love Sub Soul, Live Soul, Top 10, Album release party, etc. Man they showed ABC the other day and I went crazy! Plus you can always catch some new edition and I love new edition.

They always play something that I haven't heard in a while and I add it to my list, run upstairs and add it into my iPod.

Man I forgot about them not showing commercials. That's one of the best features for me. Along with seeing video's of artist that don't get no radio play that I haven't heard of, but have decent music.

NICE

It's not all that new Fiyah. I've had it for a couple of years. I don't watch videos much like I did years ago, but when I do what videos, it is on VH1 Soul. I wish there was a local radio station that played music similar to the video rotation on this channel.

Now I can't name not one program on it, but I still get my Vh1 Soul on!

I like it because they show alot of neo-soul artists on the weekend...especially those that you never hear of because of lack of Radio Play. I saw some chick on there Saturday (bright skinned sista...last name is Rae), and I think I"m gonna have to peep her out.

Cosign.

VH1 Soul is the channel that I most frequently watch. You can usually catch a LOT of 80s videos in the late afternoon/ early evenings on weekdays. When I first tuned in, I saw videos that I hadn't seen in 10+ years. I've also seen videos for popular 80s and early 90s songs that I didn't even know existed. VH1 Soul gives you a nice stroll down memory lane.

It is so bad at my house that when we are watching TV and a commercial comes on, we will flip back to VH-1 soul to see what is playing. But Fiyah, the channel isn't that new. I was watching it way back in Pensacola. There is a VH-1 Soul, Country, & Classic, as well as MTV Jams(Hip Hop & R&B), and Hits(Top 40)

Sometimes if the videos are really good, we will watch for hours........

That Rae chic has a helluva song. And you get to see this Geopele video where she is live and in concert, you will quickly become a fan.

We here in Houston only have the ones FIyah mentioned.

I've been a Goapele fan since back in '03 (had to put her on my "Ladies of Neo-Soul Vol 3" )
I heard a couple of songs from her latest cd, but I haven't copped it yet.
And I did find out that the chick's name isCorrinne Bailey Rae...her cd drops in June.

I use to watch it back in 2003; I was still in Baton Rouge then. It's been around a while.

I'mma hafta check it out today...

I had it when I had digital cable with Cox. I watched it alot. Now that I have DirecTV, I don't think I have it, unless I skipped over it. Is it on DirecTV?

I used to have it back when I had Comcast down in Clayton County. I also had it when I had Cox back in Baton Rouge. Currently, I have Charter for some strange reason they want more that and some other channels even though I currently have all of the movie channels as part of my package.

I used to check it out every now and then when I had it, but the videos usually ended up repeating themselves after a while.

I doubt it. I know that Dish Network didn't have it when I had their service, so one could assume that the other satellite services don't either.

You got that right.

Fiyah, and Jelli, I don't think it's offered on satellite, and if you have them that could be the problem. On digital cable though, VH1 has like 8 different music genre channels.

NICE

D~,

I loved this channel, when I had Comcast Cable, but now that I have DirecTV, I can't catch it. This is the ONLY thing I miss, about Comcast.

didn't they just change their lineup with the music channels?

btw, I havent seen VH1Soul, but yesterday I did catch the end of Video Soul Gold (I think thats the name of the show) on BET Jazz. It shows vintage Video Soul shows from "back in the day" with Donnie Simpson. When I tuned in, they were just thanking Bobby Brown for being their guest for the day.

btw, I got that Goapele CD too. It's nice. (and so is she):lol:

Direct TV doesn't offer this channel. They recently had a listening party for Amel Larrieux's (sp) latest cd. She did a top ten that included Deon Estes from '89 (Heaven Help Me). I almost did a Fred Sanford: "Elizabaeth, I'm comin' to join ya!!!!!!!!" This channel when it be playing acid jazz and neo-soul don't be bullsh@tin'!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw that and I was up jamming, I ran upstairs and found that joint quick. It is currently on my hot list playlist!

Yeah, I caught her countdown, too...
She took me back with Soul II Soul!:tup:

NT,
I like Acid Jazz, too...but I really don't know what's hot, or how to find out.
Now I loves my Incognito, but besides them (right now) I'm at a loss.

Yeah man, that's a hard music genre to keep up with. I think the Brand New Heavies are working on something. Also I know that Incognito came out with a cd a couple a months ago and they were on tour briefly. That's all I know.

I came across this description a few months ago.

nt, they must be doing something without N'dea Davenport, or they have a new lead vocalist, because she's touring right now, pushing her new CD.

I saw Amel's Top 10, and it was cool. I used to love "Don't Disturd This Groove", but looking back on it now, that was a corny video for a great song.

NICE

Corine? Bailey Rae dropped a new video yesterday on VH1 Soul and it was hot. I am definatly going to have to get her album......I can't rememeber if anyone posted above when the album drops, I'll check after I post

But her song was great, and the video was simple, yet cool. Just like her first video.
