I AM VERY CONCERED ABOUT THE FACT THAT ULM'S BAND DIRECTOR WROTE A LETTER TO GRAMBLING'S BAND IN REFERENCE TO SATURDAY'S GAME SAYING THAT GRAMBLING CAN ONLY PLAY WHEN THEIR TEAM SCORES A TOUCHDOWN. HMM.....; ALSO IT WAS SAID THAT THEY CAN'T PLAY AT THE END OF A QUARTER...HMM. NOW I FEEL THIS IS IN BAD TASTE ON ULM'S PART AND ITS DEFINITELY NOT IN THE NCAA'S RULE BOOK; ALTHOUGH THERE ARE RULES, BUT THESE ARE DEFINITELY NOT. NOW EVERYONE YOU DO THE MATH!!! WHAT DOES THIS SPELL OUT?

And guess what, Y'all going to abide by those rules too............!

They should have stated that Y'all can't wear those loud "Banana Yellow " uniforms either.........

Either way all Gram is going to do is get out their and perform and dance with ULM Band just like Y'all did at U of Houston. Schyatt, when Mr. Charlie says dance......... Y'all gonna :happydance:

Besides, the fans at ULM don't want to hear that MESS that Larry Pannell has those Chirren in the World Shame playing.........:emlaugh:

NOW EVERYONE YOU DO THE MATH!!! WHAT DOES THIS SPELL OUT?

Well first of all...I don't know how one can do math and have it spell out something, but in the end this simply proves the one thing I have always said this about the WF and other HBCU bands....you guys don't know how to play at football games.

Why are you surprised by this? Dr. P had proven time, after time, after time before in the past the he doesn't know how to play during the games.

I guess what I am really trying to say is...DON'T BLAME THIS ON THE WHITE MAN.

I hope this isn't the case. But I'm sure there is some other reason why they sent this letter....Monroe....the fans(blacks) that will be there....keeping order....Jim Crow...etc

Either way all Gram is going to do is get out their and perform and dance with ULM Band just like Y'all did at U of Houston. Schyatt, when Mr. Charlie says dance......... Y'all gonna :happydance:

I guess my questions/comments are...

1. Is Grambing's band going to abide by the "rules"?

2. If yes to #1, then why?

3. If yes to #1, will these changes be carried back to regular/other Grambling games?

Personally, I don't think Grambling's band should go along with it especially if these aren't enforceable NCAA rules. Just b/c that's what someone requests doesn't mean it has to be followed. If ULM doesn't like it, then they should "kick rocks".

IF what Grambling is doing isnt' wrong.

5. Persons subject to the rules, including bands, shall not create any noise that prohibits a team from hearing its signals (Rule 1-1-6).

I am willing to bet that this rule is violated at every single HBCU game in the country. But what makes this even worse is that the officials don't do anything to enforce it. They never throw flags for it.

This is the reason why the band director felt he needed to "school" Dr. P. because Dr. P has violated this rule at every single game this year with the exception of the Pitt game (I wonder why?).

If what the 1st poster said is true (all rumor) why can't they play at the end of the quarter?

If Dr. P really knew the rules, that he could say "to hell with that email". The game is played according to NCAA rules, not the rules set by ULM. But because Dr. P (and you other HBCU bands) are guilty of the very rule I posted earlier...it is clear you either don't know the rules or you know them but simply ignore them. Both cases are sad.

But again...the members of the WF know this is not the first time this has happened. They were told the same thing last year in Houston.

The key to that rule is "prohibiting the team from hearing their signals" , if they QB does not motion to the ref about the noise they can't say if said team is not hearing their signals. When that is done, that is when the ref would give a warning and then start throwing flags. If fans would stand up and cheer like most PWC's fans do, then the issue about the bands playing would be that, a non-issue. You never see this come up at other schools games that have large bands playing all the time when the ball is in play.

Fans at JSU be too worried about yelling at the Boom telling them to play!
*shrugs*

I do agree that The Boom and its band directors do a horrible job of watching the game. We've gotten better since I was in the band, not as many flags (if any at all) however with just getting the fans into the spirit of the game I am disappointed with that.

I say Parnell should do what he does :retard: and just make sure he watches the game. Once the ball is in play, noise is not a problem. Just make sure when the band should be silent, they are silent.

So basically....tell ULM to KICK BOULDERS WITH OPEN TOED SHOES!!!

Exactly. Thanks for explaining to some of these HBCU band haters. I have been to an Ohio State and Michigan game and trust me they get their play on. Even when the other team has the ball. They don't play whole songs but they sure don't be quiet just because one team has the ball. You also make a good point about our fans. The PWC fans are so loud that they drown their bands anyway. LOL.

Do some HBCU bands play too much during the games and not pay attention? Sure they do. And the playing while the other band is playing is not cool. But it is our bands that add some excitement to the games. Maybe if our bands stop coming to the games the same folks who complain will be happy. ULM probably couldn't stomach USC, Michigan, OSU or any good PWC band coming there either. That was a ploy to take Gram out the game even before they get there. Pannell better abide by the rules because I am sure ULM coaches will talk to the refs before the game.

Well, I agree there with you on that rule, but can't play at the end of a quarter? Come on man; and then ULM'S last play against a swac school (Alcorn) in 2006. They told them that they couldn't dance in their halftime fieldshow. Now, I stand firmly on "not" always blaming the "white man". But, it doesn't take a rocket scientists to figure out why this is happening. And then plus with all the racial tension we have going on now in the state of Louisiana. Now, we all know it still exists. " I call a spade a spade", Let's start being REALISTIC people................

This is no worse than the last time JSU played USM. Everytime the Boom played, the announcer played music over the intercom system to try and drown them out. And what worse, was that as soon as the Boom stopped playing and USM's band started playing, the announcer turned off the music so you could here them play.

Rule book or not, personally, I think the letter is in bad taste. Stuff like this will happen when you travel outside of the HBCU arena. Not saying it will happen all the time but you shouldn't get upset when it does.

I think that in this case, the director will keep within the rules (NCAA) but that other non-sense is for the birds.

Are you serious? How are they going to tell somebody what they can and can't do in their halftime show? If they dance, what are they going to do? Who do these folks think they are?
Grambling...do you!

If Grambling doesn't blow during timeouts, end of half, etc...watch how many people b*tch and complain that the band didn't play enough.

I agree...DO YOU GSU. Play Dirty Diana the entire 4th quarter if you feel like it dammit!!!!

I can probably understand them not wanting the golden girls to dance.

If the game was in Grambling, do you think the band director from ULM would still be asking that bullshat request????
