Interesting, when TD, RK and CL make the team, this will give the Titans depth using the SWAC. Douglas and Lucas are really good recievers and if not this year, but next year they probably could be in the fold. Kent will make a nice backup for McNair.

I think I told yall back on another draft thread in December or January that Kent would probably get picked up by the Titans. Kent should really thank Steve McNair for looking out for a fellow Mississippian. I wish him well.

Douglas is going to be a star. That kid has big time, big play skills. Ohhh, I wish he had stayed in BR. I'll enjoy him in Tennessee. Kent has to become much more of a student of the game to reduce his INTs. His coaches did him a grave injustice in not working with him on that. Hopefully McNair will be able to help him a lot with that, because he can do some great things with discipline play.

Peace!!!

I hope it works out for all of these guys, but they have their work cut out for them.
Kent will have to use his physical gifts to beat out Gesser, but Neil O'Donell isn't getting any younger. He has the least competition, but the most needed improvement.
Douglas and Lucas will face some promising and capable competition like Calico, McCariens and Bennett (choke!).
I loved Scott Cunningham's game at TnSU, but the Titans drafted two other CB's early. He signed w/ the wrong team.

Douglas, and Lucas certainly have their work cut out for them, seeing that the Titans probably has one spot open at reciever. If Kent works he can make the practice squad, and get NFL that o'so valuable NFL Europe experience, and be ready to seriously compete in 2 years.

I hope Douglas, and Lucas have their minds set on special teams, because more than likely that's how they're going to make the club.

Congrats to all 3, and I wish them the best of luck.

NICE

Jackson State QB Kent takes Tennessee's offer

The Clarion-Ledger

Kent

Jackson State quarterback Robert Kent, who went undrafted in this past weekend's NFL Draft, signed a free agent contract with the Tennessee Titans on Monday.

"It was disappointing not getting drafted, but I'm glad to have the opportunity with the Titans," said Kent, who is slated to report to the team's mini-camp Thursday. "I plan to make the most of it."

The 6-foot-5 Kent, an Indianola native, departed JSU as the school record holder in nearly every statistical passing category. He threw for 11,797 yards ? ranking him fifth all-time in Division I-AA history ? and 104 touchdowns as a four-year starter.

I'm looking for Tramon and Kent to do BIG THINGS for the Titans or whomever picks them up in the event they don't make it. I can see Tramon handling special teams and Kent as the 3rd or 4th QB in Tenn.

Congrats to all HBCU athletes that got drafted.

With Kent being the only free agent QB, he may have a legitimate chance to make team. They have expanded the practice squad to eight players.

I feel the hate on Kent still flowing. ZNS, son wake up, you are not the swacpage football "GOD"! We all know Kent as well as "Eli" and all the other rookies are going to face challanges. But your comments on Kent were in no way a compliment, it was a weak attempt at best in hate. "Kent has to become much more of a student of the game to reduce his INTs. His coaches did him a grave injustice in not working with him on that. Hopefully McNair will be able to help him a lot with that, because he can do some great things with discipline play." Man pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee.

Everyone knows that Bell hurt "Kent" Yes he had some problems, but so did the the QB' at SU, and GSU. But it was a well known fact that the Titans wanted Kent. And the Bell factor only allowed them to get him cheap.

But if you kept up with the NFL combines, you would have known that Kent was said to have been the most athletic QB coming into the NFL, and that he was raw talent in the making. He will be on the active roster as a 3rd QB you can bet that.

Now lets see what kind of hate you have when the "Haren" legacy begains this fall at JSU.

BIG    's to ALL the SWAC PLAYERS who have worked hard and earned a chance to grab the NFL GOLD RING!! I hope they show enough and can find a place to fit on the respective teams where they are going.

I would love to see Robert Kent as an understudy to Mr. McNair for a couple of years and then as a back-up to him until he can grasp the NFL GAME. Good LUCK to ALL of the HBCU draftees/free agents....I do hope that each one of them makes the grade.

sop83,

Dude, Kent didn't learn one thing as far as mechanics his 1st 3 years at JSU. He had a disappointing season, but the NFL looks much less at stuff like that as opposed to his mechanics, leadership skills, and ability to read defenses. QBs from Michigan NEVER have great statisitical seasons, yet they manage to get drafted every year. Experts say Kent is raw because he hasn't been taught much. Can't put all that on Bell.

I don't know if ZN's post was hate, but it was inaccurate. Kent doesn't have an INT problem. He had ONE very bad year with INTs.

I think Tennessee was probably the only team that Kent would have a shot at making. And that's all due to Jeff Fisher and Steve McNair.... McNair was a 'student' of the game for a couple of years before assuming the starting role. And Jeff Fisher brought him along slowly. And since McNair knows Kent, he had to have sold Fisher on taking a chance on him. And being that they didn't sign any other Free Agant QBs, they'll prolly give Kent every opportunity to make the team.

I just hope that Steve McNair stays healthy, so that they don't have any pressure (on the Titans) to bring-in any other veteran QBs. That way, Kent can learn the system slowly..... I think Kent could make the opening-day roster as the #3 QB.

I also hope the other HBCU Free Agents get a 'fair shot' at making the team....

All except Jared Payton  To heyl with him......

What? Why in the world would I hate on Kent? I'm behind every HBCU alum in their professional venture. Everyone that follows SWAC ball knows Kent has a high int ratio. When I watched him over his 4 years, it was things that coaching should have allowed him to grow through. We all know he has the talent. Being around a seaoned vet who will have an interest in him (McNair from the SWAC) will be a plus, just as it would have been for Lenny Williams if he would have gone to the Rams. Yes, all rookies have their struggles. I wish Kent the best. His success and the other's success help those of us that recruit for HBCUs.

No, I wasn't speaking of last year. I really wrote that year off and prayed it wouldn't ruin his chances at the NFL. I probably should ask my LB to give me this information, but since you responded Robber and I know that since you are a homeboy that you know your facts also. So, please share with me and the those who are interested Kent's last 4 years TDs/INTs stats. I don't have any problem being corrected with facts, especially when it comes to HBCUs.

Peace!!!

Man don't hate on Jarrett Payton.

I hope Jarrett lands somewhere and does really well, even if it is a spot runner for years.
Not that I wish any success for JSU (smile), but I really wish he had went there or another SWAC team with a running game. I think if he had gone to JSU he may have had a chance to chase his father's records. If he had, he would have developed more and had a greater chance to get drafted in this week year of draft for RBs. There was just too much talent, speed, etc... at RB at Miami to go there and expect to overtake them as basically a power back with nice speed.

I think he still can get with the right type of team (running back by committee with a good OL type of team) that he can do fine (like Tillman did for several years).

Peace!!!

Shiiiid. I got more respect for Eli Manning than I do for Jarrett Payton.....

Jarrett would've made a bigger name for himself had he gone to JSU. And JSU certainly would've given him the rock and let him run it...... And it would've been a national story (on ESPN at least) if/when he wouldn've broken his father's records at JSU..... At least Eli Manning went to Ole Miss, and lived in his father's shadow....until he surpassed Archie's stats. And you see where it got him...... He was on Letterman saying that going to Ole Miss was the best move he could've made.

But Jarrett never considered JSU. Wouldn't even come for a visit. He was quoted several times as saying that JSU (and all Div 1-AA) was small-time and that he was a big-time college back........

So he gets no love from me......

My Bad ZNS! But the way you came off I my view was as if you were giving Kent a slight compliment, but an even bigger dis!. But you corrected me on that.

I just feel that we as a people have a bad habit of riding the train when it is new and polished, but when it gets a few bumps, and dings we want to put it out to pasture. Kent started out as "Superman"! And every JSU fan loved him, and came on this board and praised him, but when he hit that slump that every good QB does, yes even "Eli" and "McNair", we saw "too (L) with him he ain't all that!" But let him become a hit in the NFL, then you same fair weather fans will be back on here singing his praise saying "I always knew that boy would make it!"

We can learn a lession from Ole Miss and Eli. Stay true to your student athlete, support him in the face of others, and in time with that show of fan support, he or she will make that come back.

Now if I offened anyone of my fellow JSU, then to you I say this! An old man once told me. "If you throw a brick into a pack of dogs, the one the that hollas is the one the brick hit!"
