Tramon Douglas TD pass from Robert Kent???

I'm not hating on Jarrett because he was taking cues from his dad. Walter didn't have much to do with us after he left, what can we expect from his son? And I hope no one is saying he would've developed more at JSU (4 years of Hughes and Assberry) than he did at the NFL factory known as Miami U.

I agree. We should be grateful for what he did for the school and BCF all together, but we can't act like he was Jackson State's greatest alumnus.

We all have our weaknesses. That was the one I noticed for Kent and that I figured one be short lived after his Freshman year. I don't know if it was the impression or fact, but it appeared to me that JSU increased his passes the next 2 years without a lot of focus on cutting down the INTs. Bama State had a hella QB that I'm having problems remember his name. The NFL used his height against him. I expected Kent to grow to be as great of a field general as him with a better arm and pro physical structure. Then, Bell came... Well, the NFL will use that type of season and the tension between player and coach against a prospect, so I was concerned he wouldn't get much of a chance. Yet, he is getting a chance dispite not being drafted. He is going to a team that I would imagine is going to have some people in his corner. I think it is a good situation for him. Hopefully, he'll be like the other great HBCU alums and play with a chip on his soldier to end up in the history books (Blount, Payton, Rice, Doug, etc...)

Question: Is Eddie Robinson still playing for the Titans?

Oh, I'm saying it. You can't beat playing time. To heck with sitting behind folks and watching better talent prove they desire to be drafted. That doesn't help you. Everytime you take a hand off correctly, you get better at it. Everytime you fight for a first down when you are hit short of the first down, you get better. Everytime you read the right gap to hit at the right speed and the right angle, you get better. Do you remember the kid (2 or 3 years ago) that ran for a lot of yards and got drafted but injured his knee early in training camp? He wasn't at the factory (and I'm a big fan of Miami). I think Payton is a better back than him, but Payton didn't get the opportunity he got.

It is very critical for kids to go to schools they will get a good amount of playing time on a team that gives you a chance to use your skills. You can't do nothing on the bench, but hope you get a chance one day.

Yeah, I've heard people say the things you're saying about Payton's support of JSU. But, I've also heard stories giving cause for it. I want say I agree with them, but I will say I don't think most of our HBCUs do enough to bridge those gaps and get our celebrity alums to be supporters and hopefully be visible supporters. But as big of a Miami fan as I am, that still doesn't change my belief that Jarrett would have been able to go to several other schools and significantly improve his chances to get drafted by playing more and growing more. However, that doesn't mean he still can't go somewhere and make a name for himself.

Peace!!!

Peace!!!

I hope all the guys do well in their efforts...the main thing is how willing they are to work their azz off on the field and how well they pick up the play book. I don't think that will be much of a problem for Douglas because he is a student of the game... I would think the same of the other kids but not knowing them personally, I can only guess at that aspect.

I have noticed this about Kent...he has class. I'm sure he wasn't upset with how things went down last year and the shift in offensive philosophy. Nevertheless, it didn't seem that he was a disruption in the locker room or on the sidelines. That tells me that he's a "company" guy. I think Fisher would respect that...he seems to have a thing for guys who come in and work to be good players.

My "other" son, John Simon signed with the Titans as a Free Agent running back in 2002 and made the roster against the odds. The Titans kept him over Skip Hicks who had NFL experience and had actually come through for the Titans in prior season games. John said the thing that helped him make the squad (although he was released late last year) was how Fisher felt about his "character" and work ethic. Simon lived in the film room and when not watching film, he was in his room studying his play book.

True Story: When he went up for a mini-camp prior to his rookie year, McNair, Eddie George, and other vets were talking to some rookies about what they had planned for the weekend. They were telling the rookies about all the hot spots and where to hang out. Simon decided to stay in and go over his play book. After the rest of the rookies (including his roommate, another rookie from Miss State) were gone out clubbing, Simon gets a visit from McNair and Eddie George. They simply said..."Way to go Rookie" and left to go talk with Fisher.

I can't believe the poster above forgot Darnell Kennedy's name! :shame:

I'm tired from some long hours and I'm getting older... :-) I didn't forget him.. The boy was a hella talent that wasn't tall enough to be a headache for defenses in the pros due to him not getting a chance. Did he try Canada, NFL Europe or Arena Football? He'd probably be a really nice QB coach for a school and a feature Offensive Coordinator (see Taylor now at Alcorn State).

Peace!!!

Note that the Titans are reportedly high on this guy. He could have gone elsewhere but decided to stay in Nashville. Depending on McNair's health, it will be interesting to see if and when he gets his shot.

VOLEK, BILLY
