I disagree with that sentiment, because I do believe it has a place. But at the end of the day, it is matter of the preference of whoever leads the ensemble.
 
As a former 'Scream Team' member and former screamer. I know exactly what is going on.

I spoke about jsu's & Alcorn's trpt section in an earlier thread.

As for this cranking, screaming obsession it has really takin over the entire swac. I remember being taught that a solid sound and a fat melody...strong sound is the way you want your section to sound. Screaming is just icing on the cake. Screaming never sounds good when the 'cake' ain't right. You use to hear some really good music back in the day from a majority of the bands. But now all you hear is....laying out, scream here, blowing part end song. Rinse and repeat.

Well shut the heck up and stop downing other bands and get on your JOB! Thats the prime reason why GSU had been sounding like SH*t for the past 6 years or so. You're worried about what SU is doing. If SU want to blow let them blow. matter fact when you guys get get half way to your full potential or even half way close to sounding as good as SU then come back to the boards and try to smack them. Stop trying Justify why you guys sound the way you do and hope and pray that someone understands and decides to feel sorry for you. you can always count a gram current band member to sign on and b*tch about something.

IMO, the terms balance and blend have been ignored and forgotten by most SWAC programs. It is sorta like every section for themselves, which isn't the way it is supposed to be at all. The baritones, and in some cases melophones, are killing the rest of the band. The trumpets have to fight to get heard. I've even seen some clips of bands where no matter what, the trumpets are not able to cut through the baritones. It's just selfish playing and a mentality that continues to destroy the sound of the bands. This is just an educated consumers point of view...

Judging from the fact that u are from the school that best fits this............I see y u came at me so ignorant. Never said GSU was out of this category. ONCE!! So.......don't address an issue.........and let it get worse? That's a problem with black society as is.

LOL!!!! That is a great consultant. Trust......we workin to set the example.......now all we get is hate. Most high school kids flock to the ones that are agains that approach. ( Al@SU,JaySU,etc.). Not that GSU is flawless, but not as many as others. People just ignore the "big boy" bands' mistakes.

Sorry.........forgot that yall took everything we did and made a name for yourself.........my bad. Furthermore...............I don't follow the rest of the gang. I'm very much mature. I have studied the history of my people, my race, and my band. I'm part of the new generation, but understand.......not ALL OF US.......are that way. Get it......ADULT?! What do you think of JSU? Sure you are just stuck on your JSU. Too much to be real.

2003- great great sound bruh, 2004- huge band and clear balanced sound, 2005- good sound str8, 2006 a good season jus poor musically selection, 2007 powerful band great sound, 2008 good band balanced sound

but everyone is entitled to their own opinion but all in dont waste ya time real talk

You know we can talk for a while on this but,....I'm tired of talking. I did notice something very interesting recently ,...in terms of the pitch and color of different arrangements. I will have to take it up with "THE THEORIST" I will get back to you.

Are you talking about when the baritones call themselves taking it up and invert the chord? I hate it when they do that :upset:! They love to do that sh!t on Neck and Runnin' Away. Play the music like it's written! When you take your part up a third or a fith, you are changing the damn chord and ultimately the color of the sound, usually for the worse!

Many times the note is actually hit, but the concept of intonation in the upper registers is not great. In the upper register (on trrumpet especially), there is less margin for error as it relates to intonation.
