My only objections to the playoffs is #1. Not wanting to change the date of the Bayou Classic and #2. The percentage that the NCAA gets from the net proceeds...
Hypothetical Situation:
GSU secures a host bid and sells out "Rob" 's 19k stadium at $20 each.
Revenue (Gross Ticket Sales):.. $380,000 (19k @ $20 each)
Expenses (????):....................... 50,000
Net Proceeds...........................$330.000
Less 75% (NCAA) ....................$247,500
Net Revenue .......................... $ 82,500
Not sure how Concessions are handled...hopefully the school keeps the revenue from their concessions. If we average $5 per person via concessions that's an additional $57k. Under that scenario, we're talking about a combined $139,500 payout. Not sure if my scenario is accurate but it warrants consideration of participation.
I would like to see Grambling participate and (of course) do well in the playoffs. But I will make no bones about it... in my lifetime, I would like to see Grambling parlay FCS playoff participation/success into an eventual move to FBS status. We (GSU) are in close proximity to LaTech and ULM who parlayed 1AA (former name) Division playoff success into an eventual move to FBS status. Grambling has lost out to both of these neighbor schools on blue chip prospect simply because kids want to go "D1". I don't like losing out to ULM and LaTech on recruits and students. Granted, we have great exposure from the BC...but more positive exposure can't hurt. Just my two cents worth!
