The Florida State debacle...

Bane

The Vilian
This situation is about to get ugly. They are going have to run Bowden out of town before he retires. I blame the "U" for this. They just had to start back winning.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida State coach Bobby Bowden said Sunday he isn't planning on quitting anytime soon, but the chair of the university's board of trustees has seen enough of the man who transformed the program into a collegiate powerhouse.

"My hope is frankly that we'll go ahead, and if we have to, let the world know that this year will be the end of the Bowden era," chairman Jim Smith told the Tallahassee Democrat on Sunday. " ... I do appreciate what he's done for us, what he's done for the program, what he's done really for the state of Florida.

Smith confirmed to the Democrat that Florida State president T.K. Wetherell and legal counsel Betty Steffens have been working with Jimbo Fisher to finalize a contract for him as head coach.

"The president intends to announce we've negotiated a contract with coach Fisher," Smith said, according to the newspaper.

Fisher was deemed the head coach-in-waiting in 2007. If he does not succeed Bowden at the conclusion of the 2010 season, Florida State -- under the terms of its agreement with Fisher -- would have to pay him $5 million. FSU has begun working on the structure of a five-year pact that would settle how much Fisher is to be paid when he takes over, if not further define when, a person familiar with those discussions told ESPN's Joe Schad.

It is expected that the plan, when formalized, would also give Fisher the authority to make staff decisions as early as the end of this season -- such as choosing the replacement for retiring defensive coordinator Mickey Andrews.:smh::smh::smh:

Smith said the university's arrangement with Fisher has resulted in division among the Florida State staff, an accusation Seminoles coaches have vehemently denied.

"I know coaches are sniping at each other and that's just terrible," Smith told the AP on Monday. "There are too many mixed signals."

Bowden's 384 wins are three fewer than Penn State coach Joe Paterno, the career leader in victories among major college coaches. Bowden has a contract that gives him the option to return in 2010 -- but no later, or the school will have to pay Fisher a $5 million bonus.

With the pressure mounting on her husband, Ann Bowden told the Orlando Sentinel that Bobby has been betrayed by Smith and other boosters.

"I am angry," Ann Bowden told the newspaper on Monday. "I'm angry at some of our boosters that Bobby has worked for and supported, raised money for. And he's been such a top quality person, such great character and everything for this university. And for them to turn their back on him like that -- I don't care if he is 80 years old ... ."

I don't think Miami getting off to a 3-1 start has anything to do with Nole nation wanting a change on the sidelines.

There have been rumbles for the last few years from fan about Bobby leaving. They have not been able to beat Florida since Urban Meyer arrived and they have struggled in big games against ACC foes in recent years and even been tested by teams like Troy and South Florida. Plus, it is well known that Bobby really is not fully involved on gameday. The Noles are just not the dominate team they were a decade ago.

True, but now they are straight up disrespecting Bobby. Jimbo Fisher is going to start running the whole program next year whether Bobby returns or not. Talk about friction in a locker room. It wouldn't surprise if the coaches started scrapping.

I don't know much about the coaching situation at FSU, but this saga kinda reminds me of the folks at Penn State wanting Joe Pa to step down a few years when the Nittany Lions were losing to Northwestern and Iowa and Illinois and Notre Dame and blasted by Ohio State and Michigan.

They said he was too old and could not relate to the players. Then Penn State had a year where they were a last second defensive stop at Michigan away from playing for the national title and a field goal away last year at Iowa from playing for the national title. Now, Joe Pa has signed an extension.

Winning cures a lot. If FSU was 3-1 or 4-0 nobody would be saying anything about Bobby needing to step down.

Man this whole situation is just sad for my beloved Florida State I think Bobby has gotten to relaxed in his ways and he has lost control over FSU!

I guess somebody got to say it and this dude took tha bullet himself to put it out there.
Bobby need to step down and take a cushie job within the program.

Unlike Jo Pa that had a couple of lean years after they joined the Big 10, he is actually still winning, built the program back up, and got the recruit's comming back into mthe penn State fold.
Florida State has not been a force that people are scared to play in nearly a decade now and has fell way past the low that Jo Pa went through.
they have been on the decline for a while now.

I agree that Fla St has declined a lot, but I disagree that they have fallen as far as Penn St did a few years ago. Penn State had quite a few losing seasons, including years where they won just 3 and 4 games. Fla State aint sunk that low yet. Being in the ACC helps.

And that is what stands out about when talking about what JO PA went through and what Bowden is going through.
JO Pa had to recruit head to head with the Michigans, Ohio States, Michigan States, of the Big 10 when they joined.
When they first got in, they were winning but they got their skull's cracked on a regular basis.

Florida State should have went into the ACC and dominated in recruiting and arse kicking.
Who they recruiting against besides Miami and they ain't been to hot either.
Boston College, Wake Forrest, Clemson, North Carolina?

actually, that's exactly what they did. (as far as the arsekickings). They used to DOMINATE the ACC. I think they won it 50 straight years after they joined.

seriously, at least 9-10 years straight. Used to just monkey stomp po yech.
:lol::lol:

but I digress, Bowden needs to just step down.

If FSU thinks that things will be any different under Fisher, they're gonna be sadly mistaken. Fisher practically runs the team now. What will be so different whenever Bowden finally leaves? Promising Fisher the job so far in advance was the dumbest move ever. FSU would be a lot better served by moving in a completely different direction when the Bowden era is over.

Never understood why they decided to make Fisher the coach in waiting anyway. They'd be better off trying to lure Mark Richt.

Richt is to close to Bowden to take St. Bobby's job under these circumstances, but when Fisher is fired in the next 3 to 5 years he would strongly consider replacing Jimbo if offered to do so.

Richt is overrated. Can sign some top notch classes and will win some games, but some of those game day decisions :retard:

right now, at best, UGA is the 4th best program in the SEC.

Now Georgia is a SEC team that I can't understand.
Is it coaching or what.
They just can't seem to put a N.C. run together year after year.
They can't even get to the SEC Championship.
I know Florida is a road block for them but they always seem to lose games they should not lose every year.
They shouldn't be getting their heads cracked by Florida year after year either.
What's tha deal?

The deal is they're playing in the best conference in the country. Not to mention, the playcalling is a bit suspect. Especially, in close games. So, Ga always run into a hiccup along the way, normally early in the season. Not to mention the big alliGATOR in October that they can't seem to overcome. Fla has just beaten GA to a pulp (with no end in sight, this year's GA team is the worst one in awhile). Fla now beats GA the way GA used to beat them. Richt hasnt come close to closing that gap.
Good enough for top 10 finishes, not good enough to seriously compete for the NC.

GA's program is overrated. They're seen as a top 10 program but really they're more top 20. Those early Mark Richt years sorta spoiled them.

You can say the same for LSU. Now that Saban's influence and recruits are gone, they'll return to what they really are. A solid top 20 program.

Georgia's problem is that they are soft up front on both sides of the ball. On a normal Saturday when they are playing a non-conference opponent or one of the SEC cupcakes (the two Pississippi schools, Vandy, S. Carolina, Ark, & Ky.) they win on talent alone. But when its time to take on one of the big boys they get pushed around on offense and can't tackle of defense. This year they probably are the 4th best team in the SEC but that still makes them no lower than the 6th best program in the country.

Seems like he would be tapping his root's from his south florida playing days to add some speed with the power Gerogia has.
Change up the schemes a little bit and open up the offense.
Even michigan has given up their Big 10, 3 yards and a cloud of dust mentality.

Not a wholesale change to a spread but a little change in the recruit's at certain positions.
More speed on defense, (LB's, DE's), and more speed at the receiver position, and TRY to get a real dual threat QB in there.
Don't seem like Georgia is a place where it's hard to get any kind of recruit from any region.

I would put Oklahoma, Texas, USC, Penn State, Michigan, Miami and Ohio State over Ga as programs. And that's just off the top of my head - give me time and I can think of a few others.

Try using the bottom, middle, left or right side of your head because that top part ain't working to good.

You got to be kidding.

Aint no way Georgia is the 6th best program in the country. They aint consistent enough to be that. And if you look at history. They have always been like that. Even when Vince Dooley was coaching them, they had the same problem with consistency. Only difference was he could beat Florida where Richt can't.

If you put UGA in any other conference they would finish no lower than a tie for first. USC is the only school outside the SEC that is clearly better than them. The worst thing that happened to UGA was when Dooley didn't take the Auburn job when they offered it to him after the 1980 season. Vince let too much talent get away. The one thing that Richt has done is to keep Tennessee, Auburn and Clemson away from the top recruits. Dooley was also a major supporter of the celebration rule that cost the Dawgs this past weekend.

LMAO! I guess Dooley is the reason they lost to LSU!!

Seriously dude, you need to get off the SEC's jock.
