Those who came to the U.S. from abroad Saturday were met with chaos as new coronavirus screenings snarled airports around the country, forcing travelers into overcrowded lines for hours.

Beth Kander, 38, returned from France to a "madhouse" at O'Hare International Airport in Chicago, where she spent about five hours going from line to line. Kander told NBC News Sunday that her flight was only alerted to the screenings about an hour before landing.

"When we were an hour out from landing, the captain made an announcement, and it created a lot of anxiety," Kander said. "He said you will not be allowed to get off a plane, a U.S. official will board and there will be a coronavirus update."

Only an official never boarded the plane, Kander told NBC News. Instead the captain apologized, saying information "keeps shifting" and that they would get more information after they deplaned.

Incompetence from the US government! They have know about this for many months, now they are just trying to test people, agent orange was hoping that by not testing, it would not reflect badly on him because the number would be low, thats why he called it a HOAX.

Alibaba co-founder Jack Ma has sent the first shipment of surgical masks and coronavirus test kits to the US.

The Chinese billionaire tweeted two pictures of the pallets of goods being loaded on to a plane in Shanghai.

Earlier this month he said he would give 500,000 testing kits and one million masks to America.

Mr Ma is also sending consignments of medical supplies to Europe as he called for international cooperation efforts to combat the pandemic.

In his first tweet, Asia's richest person posted photos of a China Eastern Airlines jet being loaded with boxes of coronavirus test kits and face masks as they were shipped to the US.

These retailers are closing stores to slow coronavirus outbreak

:read:

Major retailers across the U.S. are shutting down their stores or reducing hours in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

The decisions, while smart for customers, workers and the community at large, will no doubt weigh heavily on the already-stressed retail industry. One analyst has estimated this could result in a record year for permanent retail store closures, which could mount to over 15,000.

Public health officials have asked people to refrain from large gatherings to help stem the spread of the virus. They say the virus can be spread from person-to-person when they are in close contact with one another, often through respiratory droplets emitted when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Researchers say the virus can live on surfaces for several days. For this reason, retailers that remain open have stepped up cleaning measures.

Coronavirus devastates China's economy and the 'nightmare' is not over

Hong Kong (CNN Business)China's economy was devastated by the novel coronavirus outbreak in the first two months of the year, according to data published Monday, and analysts say the nightmare is far from over.

The collapse in activity affected every sector of the world's second biggest economy, as the epidemic and draconian measures designed to contain it delivered an unprecedented shock that is now being replicated around the world.
"We are in a very, very unprecedented period of time," Adrian Zuercher, head of Asia Pacific asset allocation at the chief investment office of UBS, told CNN Business.

Retail sales plunged 20.5% during January and February over the same period in 2019, industrial output was down 13.5%, and fixed asset investment fell by nearly 25%, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. All three data points were much weaker than analysts were expecting, and the decline in industrial production was the sharpest contraction on record

Democrats raising hell ain't gonna mean a damn thing. It is time for some Republicans to step up, but we all know that probably will not happen.

Nah it means everything if you're not getting votes. if you're not beating Americans over the head with the facts about how this administration dismissed and mishandled the response then you're going to lose. If you allow trump to create an alternate reality then Republicans are clearly going to go along with it and the voters will as well.

Stores designate shopping time for seniors, vulnerable amid coronavirus: Safeway, Whole Foods, Target and more.

Because of panic shopping, which has left store shelves empty, at-risk groups including seniors have had difficulty getting supplies.

Albertsons, which has 2,200-plus stores under banners including Safeway, Acme and Vons, says it is reserving two hours every Tuesday and Thursday morning for vulnerable shoppers, including senior citizens, pregnant women or those with compromised immune systems "who have been advised to avoid leaving home as much as possible."

Starting Wednesday, all Whole Foods Market stores in the U.S. and Canada will let customers who are 60 and older shop one hour before opening to the public. The company, which is owned by Amazon, has approximately 500 stores throughout the U.K., Canada, and in 42 U.S. states.

When it's all said and done, I think Trump will weasel his way to a win out from this response. Not enough Democrats are raising hell.
If he had handled this right from the onset, I'd agree with you, but going forward, its questionable.

Why are there so few coronavirus cases in Russia and Africa?

Since the COVID-19 pandemic began in Wuhan, China in December 2019, we have seen the virus spread to over 160 countries. Several countries have experienced large outbreaks, including China, South Korea, Italy, Iran, Spain and France, with the US and UK seeing rapidly increasing numbers. But most countries in the world have reported very few to no cases of COVID-19.

While it is likely that the virus has not yet reached and started localised transmission in every country, many of these countries have strong travel, migration or trade relationships with China. This raises the question: are these low case numbers due to the virus not reaching or establishing infections, is it due to effective border control, or does it reflect a lack of screening and reporting?

The spread of an infectious disease from its country of origin is a complicated process involving many factors, but at its core, it is related to the movement of people. There are several parameters that can be used to coarsely estimate movement: travel (inbound and outbound), migration, trade and proximity. Looking at the number of COVID-19 cases in the context of the ranked order of flow of people and goods between China other countries, we see the following (as of March 15):

Duhhhh...read the news! other Asians are receiving backlash not just chinese people..nice try on the geography lesson though lol

I was listening to Dumb Trump today and could believe the premeditated epithet. The man is among other things a xenophobe. That was only his most recent disparaging remark when it comes to different ethnicities. That shithole actually tried to justify it as well unapologetically......smh & lol @ the leopard flexing his spots.

No doubt he is promoting xenophobia...There is speculation that this is "the gift"(people saying there are articles where China said it) that China was referring to giving us over all those trade issues since Trump has been in office. IMO it does feel like some type of get back that would cripple the United States.

Honestly I'm not bothered by the whole "Chinese virus" controversy. Trump being a racist is baked in the cake at this point. Not my fight.

Instead of feigning outrage over that, I would hope Dems and the media start digging deeper into the fact that if the fed and republicans in congress hadnt prematurely exhausted all options to stroke Trump's ego; we would have measures in place to avert this pending economic meltdown.
