Tennessee State leaving the OVC, Coming To SWAC?

JROCK said:
I disagree............TSU (or anyone else in that conference) would not consistently beat S.U. in baseball. TSU does not have a better women basketball or track program than S.U. I doubt that their men's basekball program is better. I don't know if they have a bowling program. The football championship would not be guaranteed. They do not have a better men's track program than S.U. The OVC is not a better conference than the SWAC in track & field. If you think that TSU would come to the SWAC and own the commissioner's cup, then you are not paying attention to ALL SPORTS. A better soccer program than anyone else in the SWAC would not cut it. :emlaugh: I doubt very seriously if they would get 1st place points in golf because over the years they have not been better than Jackson State. Historically, TNST does not have a better tennis program than S.U. If I had to guess, TNST all sports in the SWAC would be somewhere around the 3rd position.

JROCK stop aruging with the basketball school. You know they are the experts in basketball.

How long do we have to keep talking about TSU coming to the SWAC? Its been discussed ad nauseum. Just let me know when they sign on the dotted line.

Shaq was wearing a Superman shirt, but it was in Que Dawg colors. That's his frat, and he has the Superman emblam on just about everything he own's, even his body (tattoed on his arm).

NICE
You mean the shirt was purple and gold??? Kinda like LSU's colors. His alma mater. Be it Que or LSU (both purple and gold), I didn't think it was an SU shirt.

I'll take them football only. That's the only sport we could really benefit by their addition. The other sports would be just more expenses.

All TSU needs is an on campus football stadium.

TSU has an on campus football stadium, I think it's called Hale stadium. SWAC East or SWAC West if Tenn. State joins the SWAC?

I know.. I use to attend TSU....but that stadium is nowhere near being in playing condition these days....

SWAC EAST. Isn't AAMU suppose to be dropping down to Division II, because they are having financial problems? Tenn. State can replace AAMU in the SWAC EAST.

It would only make sense to put them in the East and move Alcorn to the West or keep them unbalanced because no one on this side of the Mississippi is worth looking at to move into the SWAC right now.

Very! I thought Dr. Hefner was they president? When did he leave? Wasnt at one time TSU was talking about joining the SWAC?

Their president is trying to move them back to D2. He says its the best place for them and most people agree.

Thanks for clearing it up because it looked like an SU shirt to me, but oh well.   If TN STATE comes to the SWAC who will we drop?

Nobody will be dropped, The SWAC needs a 12 teams conference in order to justify making the Heritage Bowl and SCG legit for the NCAA. 12 teams gives the SWAC the right to play a Championship games and have a Bowl game after the regular season is completed. The MEAC will have to do same if it want to play in the Heritage Bowl down the line.

I hope it happens for TSU, its long overdue.

sorry, but who they suppose to be, ND?

Full membership or nothing
mh,

ND didn't provide the Big East with their bread winner. That's why they are getting over. Tenn. State would be offering their bread winner and keeping the other sports that would basically just add more expenses to our budgets.

GR... please stop lying... he said in bold letters... He is NOT moving AAMU back to D2... and he stated that IF he was president at the time AAMU moved, he wouldnt have RUSHED into the move , but I am sure you already knew that.

Get Ready,

Now we need to talk Tuskegee into coming
Send Alcorn to the west
And we might generate some excitement

I would agree with that. I would prefer Albany State University. They are very competitive in all sports and have won the SIAC all conference trophy several years running.

True!!

Both the SWAC and MEAC seriously interested in adding membership reach 12 football participating members.

The MEAC with the addition of Winston-Salem State have grown to 10 football members and 12 basketball members. It is highly speculated that they will add North Carolina Central in 2007 and re-vote on Savannah State in 2008/2009 once they complete their NCAA probationary period. This provide the MEAC with 12 football members and 14 basketball members. This allows for the conference to play a conference championship game (i.e. MEAC Championship Game) and a post-season event (i.e. Heritage Bowl).

Obviously, the addition of Tennessee State would bring the SWAC to 11 all sports members and only needing one additional member to split the conference into two divisions for basketball and allows for the conference to play the SWAC Championship Game and a post-season event (i.e. Heritage Bowl).

Three schools that are over six hrs to drive to for half of the conference. Bad idea even though I agree with you premise.

He can't.

rob,
I just hate the precedent that it would set. If the SWAC allows tnstate to do it, what's to stop other schools (current members) from picking sports they choose to be a member of the conference in, and doing their own thing when it suits them.
Is the SWAC that hard up that it would be willing to allow that? Is tnstate that attractive?
For the stability of the SWAC, IMO, it should be all or none.

Robber,

Is this assessment with expansion of Tennessee State in the SWAC only or expansion of Tennessee State and eventually a 12th member?

Just Curious!!

Albany State? come on? when they would meet the Texas teams in anything that's damn near a 20-hour bus trip and no revenue would be generated from playing them. From Louisiana it would be 12 or so.

I think the SWAC should take Tennessee State, but they should do their best to convince them to be a full member. Tennessee State has a history with the SWAC and should have been in the conference a long time ago. But finding a 12th member will be difficult. There are not many options. Tuskegee appears to be reluctant to make the move up. Albany State would face a long travel to some SWAC schools. Langston would be perfect for the West but they are years from being ready to make the move up.
