Tailgate For The Labor Day Classic

Son ov a byyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyytchhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... :smh: How do y'all tolerate that guy?

This somebeech on the phone telling me how he's gone out to beauty salons and barber shops and now CHURCHES because that's where and I quote "our targeted audience is" at this very moment.

I asked him who's the SID and he said....... <b>"What's yo' name again! Why you want to know! We're doing ALL we can to promote the game sir! We have print ad and radio ads. The game is in Reliant and we're doing what we can to do our best."</b>.

I asked again: Who's the SID? He said: <b>"Look Rick..... blah blah blah yaddi yaddi yaddi..."</b>

Basically, he didn't answer the question. :(

Damn... :shame:

Why did you let him punk him like that Panthro? If I was you, I'd drive down here to Houston and walk straight into his office and tell him that you are Panthro and punch him dead in the ole bread basket.

And then as he's on the ground sucking for wind, stand over him and say "And this is for Ebony!!!" and punch him dead in his pie hole (remember when Diamond did that to Ronnie in Player's Club?) and say to him, "I hope you don't make another dollar in this raggedy mutha *****!!!"

I told YA'

I bet a lot of you thought I was being sarcastic or trying to sneak in some smack, but this is actually Blackwell's BIG Promotion Plan for the Labor Day Classic.

It's time for both school's alumni to step up demand some changes to put this game on track to where it deserves to be. Just look at every other SWAC state rivalry's game:

Bayou Classic
Capital City Classic
Magic City Classic
Turkey Day Classic

And the FAMU -vs- BCC game

There'll all big hits and this game should be too. It's time to organize a Labor Day Classic Committee to develop and promote this game professionally. It has to be more than just a game, it should be a series of events. We're talking about a HBCU state rivalry game in Houston, Texas in the most state of the art stadium in the world. There's no reason that game shouldn't have 50 to 60 thousand people in the stands. I truly believe if you promote this game properly, THEY WILL COME. Fans will travel to Houston because there are things to do here entertainment wise. And by the way, there's a helluva lot of us here already.

JSU_Alum,

That has been proposed. It is currently an action item by several booster club members, financial donors, and alums of both institutions. Several of these members actually post regularly on the board. So, for the record it is an action item.

Unless you have been involved in the ground work of developing and Classic Committee or at least involved with the different power struggles and business structure of each institution. I am not sure you are aware of how difficult it is to get all the right players on the same page or in my opinion it would have been done a long time ago. If you have developed a Classic Committee or been on a Classic Committee, then I am sure you are well aware of all the various dynamics that must take place to get it off the ground.

Hopefully, with all of this beening said that this will be done in the near future. But as long as you have ineffectice and disfunctional leaders at either and/or both institutions it becomes even more difficult and unlikely that it will come to fruitition.

I'm glad to hear that it's an action item. I wish you guys the best in pulling this off because the way I see it, it's a win win situation for both institutions and the fans alike.

To the board,

There isn't a SID at Texas Southern University. Bambi Hall was orginally hired as the Sports Information Director by Texas Southern University and athletic director Alois Blackwell last year. She was later removed from that position and reassigned to football program department. Irvin Hall was originial hired by Texas Southern University and athletic director before Alois Blackwell as the Assistant or Associated Athletic Director for Marketing.

After Bambi Hall was reassigned Irvin Hall quickly became the Sports Information Coordinator. It is my understanding, about a week or two ago. Irvin Hall informed the staff at Texas Southern University that he was taken a indefiniate medical leave because of back problems. How long this will be I am not aware of. So Athletic Director Alois Blackwell and students graduates, because of his decisions have had to much of this work.

So unfortunately for Texas Southern University fans and alums as well as indirectly Prairie View A & M University fans and alums the marketing and sports information for Labor Day Classic and in general the sports information for Texas SOuthern University have been less than effective and is a direct reflection of what is currently being discussed on this baord.

Since we are telling it like it is...

Alois Blackwell is only a figure head around our university. He does not make the decisions on who is hired or fired. This is handled by his bosses: Quintin Wiggins (Sr VP Admin/Fiscal Affairs) and J. Paul Johnson (Board of Regent, Chairman of Athletics). So until President Slade takes a firm grasp of the "athletics" portion of our university, we will remain in "dire straits". Dr. Slade is under the assumption that Regent Johnson and Quintin Wiggins are taking care of the athletics division of Texas Southern. However, when alumni and others who care dearly for the administration warn Dr. Slade of what's happening on the other side of campus it's too late and Johnson, Wiggins and Blackwell have already done their dirt.

Once again, Alois has no control over anything. Case and point, Bill Thomas; Alois told me this face to face at the Stillman debacle last year that and I quote "It is out of his hands".

Furthermore, it's amazing what happens when certain Senators and State Representatives call in for "favors" to Slade who they'll hire at 3100 Cleburne.

Are they the ones who put her in office? If so, good luck in trying to get things changed.

The game is two weeks away, and I am yet to hear anything about it on the radio. Damn near everybody in Texas knows when Bayou Classic rolls around.

You aint never lied. There be more Texas plates in the NO that weekend. But the Classic has also been marketed better than the LDC and being on NBC don't hurt. Plus Thanksgiving is the most traveled holiday and we (SU and GSU) definitely benefit from the game being on that weekend.

With PVs renewed committment to athletics, then if they could start winning and challenging for the SWAC, then that would also help the LDC grow. Nothing like a rivalry between 2 teams with alot at stake. I think that is one of the things that has helped the JSU/ SU game get so big.

I will probably do a brisket or two.l

Whats the latest for this?

Do we want to use the lot west of stadium or use a area just south of the stadium.

Maybe even meet up in one location and convoy to the parking lot together so we will all be parked in the same spot.

I sure thought PVAM/TSU was a big time classic game.

CLeB, the program need the direct support of the President to make things work.

Using the designated color would probably be easier to find - Blue, Orange, Red, Purple, Yellow & Green. I believe you were set up on the Green lot last year after Southern's game which is pretty convenient. I now park on the Blue for the Texan games and that one is closest to the stadium and a pretty straight path into the stadium if entering from the Kirby side.

Yeah I thought it was a good location too......

Here's the map of the parking areas....

Tailgating for the PV/TSU game will have different rules than the Texans. When I find out the differences I will post them. Right now, I'm trying to contact Jason ((832) 667-1718) at Reliant Stadium to see what will be allowed.

Tailgating for the game will only be allowed in the GREEN Lot. That's the Southwest corner of Kirby and Murworth, the same parking lot where Magic 102 and 97.9 The Box is having their tailgate party. I was told on the telephone the gates don't open until 4 o'clock. He wasn't really sure, so maybe that's something I can check on.
