I called an official friend of mine and asked him about the whole sequence. He told me that it was the correct call. He works high school, so is not exactly sure of the college rule, but he said the only thing that he knows of that is different in high school (where he refs) is that TxSU would have gotten the FTs AND the ball to start overtime, forgoing the jump ball altogether. But that could be different in the NCAA rulebook.
