Swac Basketball - 1/31/2011

they shook after....some hugged....it was cool

But our head coach went to A&M also and played for Pettaway so I can imagine the adrenalin rush both felt prior to tipoff

dont let Rimm fool you... He aint NEVER play at AAMU. He may have been on the team but I dont think he made it through one semester. Pettaway doesnt have any fond memories of him and does anyone else at AAMU. By looking at the bio that would have put him at AAMU in 94... i know for a fact I can name everybody off that team. Maybe he was a manager or a ball boy.

btw What is Lubby's? from tweets the players state they are protesting if they have to go there again this weekend. Also they had nice things to say about PVs bball atmosphere... everyone keeps calling it Club PV lol.

the head coach at Wiley College is an A&M guy also...they were there together

Luby's is a cafeteria...its a whiter version of Piccadilly's or Morrisons's...:emlaugh:...great fried fish though

$4.99 Breakfast buffet.....I damn near cried when it closed down in Shreveport....I would drive 68 miles (one way) on Sundays to get there...

Someone started some type of club and got all the freshmen involved and they sit behind the visitors....throw that in with the DJ its one hell of an event......

They probably mean Luby's....... it's a cafeteria style restaurant like Picadily's. It's not a bad restaurant, you choose what you want and you go sit down and eat. They have servers that will refill your drink and get other things you may need.

The games in the Baby Dome will have you rocking during the warmups, timeouts and anytime there is a break in the action. We have a DJ that is set up on the stage and he gets the crowd going with all the latest music.

Good win Valley... we just need to take care of business in Alabama these next two game and we will still have the title within reach knowing JS-Who has to come to Itta Bena soon...

You better believe we coming!!! We coming in kicking stuff over, too. Get Ready!!!

Overall, Jackson, Valley and TxSU are heads and toes ahead of the rest of the SWAC. I like what they might do in the Tournament. Just got thru watching Gram vs Valley on GSU tv in Valley is rockin.

Don't know bout that one bro. You left out dem bulldawgs of AAMU!!!! Who lost yo Jack St by two,TSU by 4 and beat Valley by 11 at Valley.

freshman guard didn't hurt him..........A&M's length on defense was a problem and they got in his face and never let him get the looks he usually gets

I'm told by a reliable source that after he didn't shake hands that he was specifically targeted to be shut down by the team. That is, anyone else could have had a good game for PV except Simpson.

Just cant see it... knowing the style of defense AAMU runs Jeremy Crutcher is going to be sticking any point guard.... the 2 guard Hester doesnt play any defense .... cant see any 3s or 4s sticking Trant. So did he shake Pettaway hand after the game? lol....... I sure Hester was happy to play against him... they were inseperable at AAMU... I think they were roomates...Hester is the reason Trant started to get tatted up. Pettaway and Trant may not get along now... but Trants teamates talk about how the miss him all the time on facebook. Inman, Hester and Cantey were close with Trant.

I was at the game and it looked to me like a team effort was used to shut him down. Whenever he drove to the hole the defense did a good job of collapsing on him and taking the ball from him. I'd be interested to know how many turnovers he was credited for during this game.......He did shake his hand after the game but I think the non shaking of Pettway's hand had a lot to do with the fact that Pettway never signed his release. - from a reliable source

I myself don't know specific details, but if I had to speculate, it would be due to clash of styles...If you know anything about Pettaway, he is definitely old school. He will call you out, put you on blast as a way of motivating you. Soon as you make a mistake on the court, he will take you out. The problem is, current breed of players like Trant don't respond positively to this style of coaching. I recently had a student that went to AAMU about 2 or 3 years ago. He pretty much told me you have to have thick skin to play for Pettaway these days...It is what it is...

Having played on Pettway's 1st three teams at AAMU, I would say that his coaching style is very abrasive. But the assistants do a good job of pulling the kids to the side and explaining what coach just went off about- sort of like good cop bad cop. We, for the most part, let that stuff run off us like water on a duck's ass. He wasn't necessarily loved by us back then but we did what we had to do to win. I learned a lot from him some good and some bad. We nodded and said yes sir, let him finish and continued playing ball.

The atmosphere was crazy. The players at the end of A&M's bench were talking and laughing with that crowd above them. Makes me think of Elmore back in the day.
