Alcorn State didn't want to see this again. But here it is.

The 2007 baseball Braves entered the Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament as the No. 2 seed in the East Division behind rival Jackson State. Alcorn State finished the regular season two games behind JSU.

Jackson State (33-15, 17-3) travels to Lorman today for a 1 p.m. start of a three-game series with Alcorn State (24-11, 11-7). The Tigers have a five-game lead on ASU just two weeks before the conference tournament. This weekend marks the final league games of the regular season for JSU.

The Braves wrap up the regular season with a series against Alabama A&M next weekend, but still can't catch the Tigers - as of now.

"The main thing is making it to the tournament, regardless if you go in as the No. 1 or No. 2 seed," ASU coach Willie McGowan said. "We'll take whatever seed we can get.

"It's just the idea of going in there, playing good baseball, getting the momentum, keeping it going and winning four straight ballgames."

A question posed to the SWAC office about the standings was unanswered Thursday. If Alcorn State sweeps JSU and A&M, it would tie the Tigers with 17 conference victories. But Jackson State would still hold the No. 1 seed with one less loss (6) than the Braves (7).

Question,
Will J-State make up their conference game agnst Bama ST?

This weekend in SWAC baseball has a lot of excitement on the WEST side (the best side....)

SU plays at PV this weekend for 1st place. SU has lost their top offensive player in Romey Bracey for the rest of the season. I am not 1 to complain, but this team has had its share of injuries for 1 season. SU had been hitting the ball, but SU's defense is constantly dribbling the ball. SU has not won a series at PV since '03.

TSU host UAPB this weekend in a 3 game series with the winner of the series taking the 4th place spot. Both teams are a constant inconsistent. Which team shows up for each team will determine who plays J-State on day 1.

Only 3 teams from the EAST and three from the WEST go to the tourney, right?

Congrats to JSU for EASTERN Division title!!

This year, they decided to go with 4 teams from each division:retard:
Trying to be like the sec as if we have sec pitching and moreso....funding!

That just goes to show what you know....ASU does not have a baseball team. Sheesh

Time out flag on the play clipping ruffing the passer wellllllllll fuggggg it they don't have a team and for once and for all unless Alcorn sweeps us this weekend (not going to happen) and the sweep smalltime only way JSU will play Bama St.

What about the rule from the SWAC office, where all teams must play 100% of SWAC games to be elgible for the tournament.

Ok thanks.

I know I have said that 3 times if alcorn loses the game it become null in void basically its set up that JSU wil be first and Bama St will be second Valley and Alcorn is playing for second and third alcorn right now is 3 1/2 out so the game with Bama St is not needed. On the west side GSU owns the tie breaker with PV so if SU takes two GSU is in second place PV in third

C leb make it out of 5th place before you worry about cup cakes on the east. Trust Candy and his crew don't want any part of JSU

A rule is a rule. The rule says all teams must play 100% of their SWAC games to be elgible for the tournament. jSU thinks its above the rules.

The rule was made because programs weren't playing the allotted amount of games to be able to participate in the NCAA as the case with some programs still only playing 30 something games instead of the full 56 in 2000 Alcorn got amazingly got rained out 3 straight series in the row to be ahead of JSU and a record of 19 and 5 coming into the last weekend of the SWAC where it really did rain that's the purpose of the rule we will have played 52 games by tommorrow. So the rule does not affect us so in a sense we are above the rule.

Well at this rate we may have to make up that game Alcorn wins both 7-3 and 10-7 game 3 tommorrow congrats Alcorn on 2nd place lol

In other words, this article is saying that JSU has the #1 football, basketball, and basebal team in the SWAC.

What the hell are the rest of yall doing?

It?s down to this

Southern second baseman DeMario Ellis gets the force out, but loses the ball as Prairie View's Greg Ford slides into second base preventing the double play, during their game earlier this season at Southern.

The Western Division title is coming down to the final weekend series between Southern University and Prairie View once again.

Southern (23-15, 15-6 Western Division), with a one-game lead, plays a doubleheader of seven-inning games at 1 p.m. today at two-time defending Southwestern Athletic Conference champ Prairie View (21-21, 14-7).

The teams conclude the three-game set with a nine-inning game at 1 p.m. Sunday.

?The schedule makers couldn?t have done it any better,? Southern coach Roger Cador said.
