SWAC Baseball attendance

I noticed something today. I live 5 minutes from Trustmark Park so I drove to the stadium to see how many were attending the C-USA conference championship game. I saw approximately 100 people there, I'm back home now and I'm watching it on t.v and about 90% of the stands are empty.

When the SWAC baseball tournament was in Jackson at Smith Wills and at Trustmark Park, there were at least 200-300 fans at the tournament and the championship game. Many people in Jackson said that black's don't support baseball but that is a bunch of bull. When the games were in Jackson, SU, JSU, PVU, TSU and Alcorn brought a decent number of fans but the C-USA championship last year was Rice and Houston and this year it is Memphis & UAB and there are very few fans there.

We must promote and speak positive of our own because it's the SWAC against the NCAA.

You are certainly correct.....

I'm challenging all SWAC fans to call doo doo (Duer Sharp) and ask him why the swac tournament has been moved almost every year since 2001. Our baseball tournament has been in Jackson, Birmingham, Houston, Shreveport, New Orleans, Baton Rouge and next year Memphis. Why is he moving it around. I know the swac has to pay for renting these stadiums.

I need everyone to bombard his office next week by calling and asking why. Maybe this will make him change his mind. Baton Rouge is a great location and SU has a decent grandstand.

Also ask why was it moved from Trustmark Park and if he say attendance. C-USA don't have as many fans as we do.

Who with me on this? We got to start inquiring folks about our conference. Please call Duer.

SU is also upgrading it's outfield this summer. A state of the art outfield with drainage with new sod is being put in. The outfield will also be raised so it won't hold water in the future.
It's also proven SU is the only place where the conference haven't lost money. I here Memphis isn't a done deal, as H-town and BR will put a bid in also.

I have been saying this for a while (as well as others) but people don't listen when they decide to bombard fellow SWAC schools and their own for whatever reason.

soon as Birmingham's 64 million downtown stadium is complete it will be in back in Birmingham. If its in Autozone Park in Memphis that is a steal... thats one of the best minor league stadiums in the country.

I doubt that. But that's not where they were talking about having the tournament lol. It was going to be at some place with multiple fields outside of Memphis lol.

Alot of swac fans are for the tournament in BR, but some of them just won't say it. I personally like it there because I have family in BR and it's a very enjoyable ride down I 55.

It's not about being in the best minor league stadium in the country. IF that is the case it was in Houston's beautiful stadium but the problem is our swac baseball fans are going to memphis, just like they didn't go to birmingham, shreveport, etc.

Where in Houston would it be held?

When the Swac Baseball Tournament was held at Trustmart Park in Jackson it was made possible by an individual financed the cost of having the tournament there. This same individual help bring the Mississippi Braves to Jackson. His hope was to introduce Swac Tournament Baseball to Jackson and bring fans with it , especially Alcorn,JSU and Valley fans. He financed the cost for two years. Unfortunately the attendance during that two year period was sub par. He could not afford to keep the tourney at Trustmart because of the cost and very little return based on attendance. Thethird year the Tourney was held at Smith wills Stadium in Jackson. Following that year the Tournament has bounced around to different cities.

In my view the a "Swac Championship" needs to be within the "Swac Footprint." I think New Orleans,Jackson,Baton Rouge,Houston,Birmingham,Gulfport-Biloxi and Mobile are within the "Swac Footprint." Is Memphis in that footprint? I know Alexandria,La and Little Rock Arkansas put in a bid to host the baseball Tournament . Where can the tournamet be played that will please coaches and fans?

Alexandria would please some folk.

so the SWAC didnt lose money in BR? I find that hard to believe.... its not like there were 4000 people at the games in BR.

Dude, who the heck is going to Memphis to watch the teams? Last time I checked, the SWAC doesn't have a team located in Memphis. That is like the SEC choosing to host its tournament in Virginia.
