Usually limited to one midweek contest and a three-game weekend series, the Southern baseball team rarely needs five starting pitchers.

Brian Foster has begun to make his case for No. 5 anyway.

For the second straight Sunday, the freshman right-hander turned in a gem.

This time, on a gray, cats-and-dogs Easter afternoon, Foster allowed two runs on nine hits in eight innings, and the Jaguars’ offense returned to form in a 12-2 win over Jackson State that ended a two-game slump.

The only thing Foster didn’t do Sunday was turn in a nine-inning complete game.

He was about to.

While Southern made a handful of defensive replacements in the top of the ninth inning, Foster walked to the mound, ready to finish the job
