CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- On the heels of a career season in 2012, Dray Joseph is creating expectations for an encore performance 2013 that has one football group serving notice.

College Football Performance Awards, the largest awards organization in D-I college football, recently announced its watch list for the 2013 CFPA FCS Quarterback Award, and Southern University quarterback Dray Joseph earned a spot on the list. The preliminary watch list highlights thirty-two returning performers, vying for the top quarterback honor in the Football Championship Subdivision.

Joseph excelled as the unquestioned leader of the Jaguar offense in 2012 passing for 2,511 yards and 25 TDs. The West St. John product completed 58.5 percent of his pass attempts on his way to earning a spot on the All-SWAC second team.

Joseph punctuated his stellar season by leading the conference in passing average (228 ypg) and total offense (2,640 yards)

Joseph deserves the recognition. He put up big numbers last year. The Swac has some quality QBs returning. SU, JSU, UAPB and PV all have good QBs manning that position.

Dray really played well after Stump. I was tough on the kid, but I realize it wasnt him. He is a true team leader, that leads by example.

Yep. He is good kid. I wish him the best on and off the field. He even got some of homeboys coming to SU this fall it looks like.

Congrats to the kid on the Honor buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuttttttttttttttt...(i know this will sound like Im hating) but he doesnt look like a good pro-typical qb hell I dont even like Tim Tebow here at JSU (we dont know if he is coming back since he graduated) maybe Im just judging based on other qbs in college football...

I guess Im judging based on some of the better qbs Ive seen in the SWAC recently...i know..I apologize in advance for my harsh judgement..

Most of the Qbs in FCS do not look like the pro-typical Qb. That's why they don't make the NFL that often. But as a FCS Qb, Dray is pretty solid. He is not the most athletic kid. But he does throw a pretty ball. Even Get Ready likes him. LOL. Even gave me isht for not being a big fan at first. I was like Jagtillidie. We all gave Dray a hard time. But I have to remember the coaching he has received when he first arrived. He has had some really good games and some not so good games. But he has improved every year. If he has any type of running game he will be even better. The play calling before Stump left hurt his development. He has blossomed since Chad took over the offense.

His numbers don't lie, he lead the conference in passing, TD's 25, and only had 7 int's.

Hell I did too. I wasn't sold him at first because from an OC standpoint, I prefer a more mobile QB, case and point, McGinty and JP. Now..the offense under Chad is tailored around Dray being able to stand in the pocket and make plays. That in itself along with other factors improved his QB Play. IMO

If Chennis Berry can get the running game in order and Southern's receivers make plays, I know the Jags will be a handful to stop on offense.. I am not a die hard fan of QB Controversy, I believe that when the best guy shows his face then go with him and stay with him. Last year Dray Joseph got the nod under Big Worm and Germany, and became a hell of a QB...

I agree. Dray and that JP saga was not a good mix. Stump mismanaged that big time.

I know personally that situation as my cuz got caught up in that mess....none of those guys were recruited for Stump's offense as they were made to play in Orlando's offense or something similar to what SU is running now. Stump tried to put a square peg in a round hole

More than anything, other issues affected him. Your cuz was really talented though.

We did all we could do from that point to make sure he makes it even after the SU debacle....that's life though

Now on to the next one :emlaugh:

I sure wished your cuz had been able to stay on through it. If Pete was still there during his time, he would have been fine I believe. Well, on the field at least. Don't know what the other issues were for him otherwise.

the next one ended up going JUCO after winning the state title this year....the next few coming up have different names now so I can hide in piece if they mess up :emlaugh:
