Southern Coaching Semi-Finalist

Re: Southern Finalist...

I'm totally against paying any of these semi-finalists more than 180K. I personally think the contract needs to be incentive laden based on record, SCG appearance, and special rival games. The landscape can be changed again and I think we still have enough leverage to do so.

Re: Southern Finalist...

Fritz's salaray is $139K...heck SHSU's AD only makes $143K

Exactly. Most of these FCS schools ain't paying the big loot. ND State can because they got big money from the oil sands and not only that they have twice the size of enrollments we do. Meaning more revenue. App State is bigger than Ole Piss and Ms State in enrollment. So they can easily afford that 230K they paid Jerry Moore. Plus he deserved every penny. He helped bring visibility to the school with that football program. But yet we want to pay these clowns 200K just because. But I blame us (SU) for paying Pete that big salary and the floodgates opened. I can see paying 175K to start unless your resume looks like Jerry Moore.

Maynor will not be taking the Southern Job for 160-180K...Southern will have to give him 200K +...so give it or go with the others and that is not a lot of money for FCS school our cheap asses need to pay these coaches and assistants!
Why you directing this at me, I already proved to you I ain't cheap.

Re: Southern Finalist...

I got to tell truth!GR is still pissed off with Dr. Broussard for the verbal smackdown Doc gave him in Jackson.Something about not hiring a losing highschool coach.Oh and something about not letting the Phd fool you!lol

What? Who? Verbal smackdown? And you started this off by saying, I got to tell the truth? You should be ashamed of yourself

 po GR....Doc said some other sh!t to GR that I cant even repeat on here, but it was funny as hell.

The look on GR face was priceless

Yep. Priceless.

Re: Southern Finalist...

I was kinda suprised, yet pleased to see James Spady on the list. He's coaching on the FBS level, but see the potential for HBCU football and would like to go at it as a HeadCoach. I thought he did a good job for us at Grambling...some of his play calling (occassional fumble rooksie) I didn't particularly care for but he was efficient and organized. From what I was told, he is an articulate guy and good with people/booster groups. He'll make someone a good head coach if given the chance. (That was not an endorsement jags, lol)

Re: Southern Finalist...

Odums gonna get it. Watch.

LOL. You think if Brian Jenkins is the lead candidate that Odums is going to get it? LMAO. Odums is just getting a courtesy interview. All the other candidates would have to withdraw or the board says no to them. Everyone at SU knew Odums name would be on the list. Hell Broussard said he would get an interview. But I do not think the administration wants anybody tied to the last coaching staff. Just don't see it.

Yeah he comes with some good credentials. So I think he is a serious candidate.

Spady is alright in my book. He work his butt off as a recruiter in the DFW area when he was at Grambling. MB you hit the nail on the head, he is a people person. A Type-A personality. He won a lot of coaches over in Dallas from Day 1. Extensive FBS Experience. As a side note. I know 2 kids at Nevada. Coach Spady is very involved in the Offense there now. Ault calls the plays but has 100% input from the offensive staff. This is a endorsment... LOL

We are thinking the same, however Im not to big on beating rivals for incentives. You better win those games or hit the road. If I were an AD in the SWAC or MEAC here's how I would do it.

Base Contract: 4 Years ( I think every coach deserves that, especially if the program needs work. We may go 3 years with 4th year option based on win/loss record)

Base Salary: 150K - 155K (Current Position Coach)
160K -170K (Current Coordinator)
175K - 185K (Current Head Coach)

Incentives: 10K for 8 or more wins
5K per win vs OOC PWC (FCS)
10 per win vs OOC PWC (FBS)
10K for SWAC Championship
No Incentive for Black College National Championship ( Convince me why I should)

Buy Out: 65% of remainder of Contract (Exp. if 2 years remain, somebody owe me 195K)

Extention: After 3 years ( based on win loss record and direction of program)

Raise: After 4 years (Same as extention)

Re: Southern Finalist...

easy here,

right now , I wouldn't be too concerned about how much to pay the new coach......CAN HE COACH?....CAN HE RECRUIT GOOD TALENT AND QUALIFIED KIDS......CAN HE PUT TOGETHER GOOD ASSISTANT COACHES WHO CAN COACH.......CAN HE WORK WITH WHAT FACILITIES AND EXTREMES SU'S HAS TO BARE......CAN HE BE APPROACHABLE AS WELL AS PROFESSIONAL......AND FINALLY CAN HE PUT THE KIDS AND SU FIRST AND HIS DESIRES SECOND...........

Re: Southern Finalist...

SU Alumn. . . New Orleans native with strong area recruiting ties. Extremely successful as a head coach reaching multiple title games. Young. Energetic. Winner. . . . Season still going (State finals in Louisiana this weekend)

Sounds like Jabar Juluke might be your 'dark horse' SU. .. .

Ummm no. He knows he needs college coaching experience. Look for him to leave Karr in the near future to become a college assistant.

Re: Southern Finalist...

Yeah but is he also the OC or coaching any other position?

Doesn't matter - he's going to want a raise if he comes to SU. Remember Comegy making less to be the coach and AD at Tuskegee than he did just to be the coach here.

He doesn't meet the minimum qualifications of having college assistant or head coach experience that Broussard published in the job description. Jabar going to have to get on someone's staff before getting a job like SU's.
