USC is FAR more superior than any SEC football program. I can't believe you even said BEFORE PETE CARROLL, USC wasn't nothing. I just lost respect for your college football knowledge SUGE.

Umm, I guess you only have selective reading. I said before Pete Carrol they were trash. Once John Robinson left the first time and went to the NFL, they went downhill fast. Until Pete Carroll arrived. Read the entire post, not just what you want to see. I know my football, no matter the level.

USC is a helluva program no doubt, and I won't try to dispute it, only Notre Dame, and Alabama can make the historical claim that they can, now in saying that, comparing one school to a conference is crazy, because USC is great partly because of the competition they face.

The talent is there no doubt, but playing a rough schedule like the SEC, Big 10, & Big 12 is no cake walk for anybody. Texas, Oklahoma, LSU, Florida, Ohio State, Michigan, and Georgia have loaded up with just as much talent as SC, and have comparable coaching staffs, but the difference is the schedules that they play. The Pac 10 by in large has always been a 3 team league in any given year, but the SEC, Big 10, and Big 12 in the last 10-15 years have been 5-6 teams deep on a yearly basis, and it may seem small, but it makes a big difference when you're not going to be in a dog fight on a weekly basis.

It's a reason Florida State, and Miami didn't accept the SEC's offer to join the conference when the offer was extended to them.

NICE

Legendary Arkansas icon's run nears finish line

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- There is no computer.

That's the one thing missing from Frank Broyles' office, which sits in the Broyles Athletic Center, which looks out on the football stadium Frank Broyles expanded, which is the largest in an archipelago of dazzling sports facilities Frank Broyles made possible along Razorback Road.

The office is suitably grand, from the dark wood paneling to the graceful antique of an athletic director sitting behind the desk. The room is almost long enough for its inhabitant to sharpen his short-game skills for trips to Augusta National, where he is a member, but it is not equipped for surfing.

"I'm untrained," Broyles says, in his courtly drawl, "to the Internet."
It does not compute for the head of a multimillion-dollar enterprise like University of Arkansas athletics to have no computer, but the 82-year-old Broyles is from a different time.

He is from a pre-blogospheric time when communication meant doing things face to face, and he has the combination of velvety charm and steely directness to prove it. He is from a time when Razorback Nation was among the most unified border-to-border fan bases in all of college sports, not a place fractured by a vigilante fan revolt engulfing the football coach and the hotshot ex-quarterback. He is from a time when one man could hold an entire state in thrall for half a century and never wear out his welcome.

Times have changed.

Apparently, USC wasn't better or they would be National champs too. I think the Sears Trophy resides in Gainesville, FL. on an SEC campus. No LSU wasn't better than FL, but they were better than Arkansas the team we are discussing.

So, who won the SEC West? LSU or Arkansas? Does not the CHAMP represent the better team? Didn't USC beat the best team in the SEC West? Oh, LSU was the best team in the SEC West, but they were not the SEC West Champs.

Please, you guys are lost. You say USC is not the best team in college football because the trophy is NOT in Cali, but then you turn around and say USC didn't beat the best team in the SEC West because they didn't play LSU, YET Arkansas was the SEC West Champs.

Every year, USC has a player who will be a Heisman candidate, WHAT SEC FOOTBALL SCHOOL CAN SAY THAT? The SEC combined barely has a candidate each year, much less a school.

I agree with your heisman point, but you must admit that the reason the SEC doesn't always have a Heisman candidate is because in the SEC, unlike the Pac 10, TEAMS PLAY DEFENSE!

USC is so dominate over the Pac 10 because it is the Pac 10. They don't have very many good teams. Historically USC is the kingpin, then you have Washington, and UCLA. Everyone else is a blip on the screen of major college football. They are not consistent football powerhouses. Oregon has been good since B got there, but they are still not a major factor.

Frat.......don't bang your head on this one. You will not win with your logic. I agree with your post. Folks around here love the SEC. No southern kid should ever want to go an USC over a SEC school. USC program is far less superior than any SEC school and only have had recent success since Pete Carroll.:xeye: You would think outside of Alabama, that Florida, Tn, LSU etc have been juggernauts for 40 years. The fact is that even those schools were not revelant Nationally until certain coaches showed up. Florida wasn't anything for years until Spurrier came back home. LSU had not won anything until Saban showed up. Tn got respectable again when Johnny Majors went home and finally won something under Phi Fulmer. Ga aint won nothing since Herschel was a Freshman and until Mark Richt showed up they had not sniffed a SEC title. Auburn hasn't been consistent since Pat Dye. They have had a few great years since he left under Bowden and then Tuberville. Like I said USC's history and program is better than any SEC school outside of the University of Alabama and even they are behind USC currently. But they do have a history undeniable. So to compare USC to the whole SEC conference is not right.........compare them to each individual school in that conference. Sure as a whole the SEC is the toughest conference the majority of the time. But let's not get carried away that USC is not on par with SEC schools.

So I guess JR that USC has never had any of those lean years? I guess they were still relavent after John Robinson bolted to the NFL? The same logic that you are using to discount the SEC is the same logic I am using in my USC debate. One can compliment USC but still not believe the hype.

They have history, never discounted that. They are a top program in college football, never discounted that. But they are not the pinnacle of the sport as some of the prior post are suggesting. Sure you can't compare them to the entire conference, but you can compare them to individual programs. I just think that as college football goes, USC is talented. The roster is loaded with high school all americans, some will be draft picks. But so are the rosters at LSU, TN, & UGA. You can't tell me that those programs don't stack up talent wise with USC.

This is the exact thing I'm saying, not to mention I'm thinking bout now. If I'm coming out of high school I'm thinking bout what I see now how I feel now, it's cool about your past but that's not what I care about.

Suge, they have had less lean years than alot of SEC schools. It wasn't like they didn't have talent. Coaching was their issue. Some of the SEC schools just started winning championships in the last 10 -15 years. Also I am not saying those SEC teams don't have as much talent as USC. They do since they convince most of our kids to stay close to home in the South. So yes they are stacked. And you need to stop acting like USC or some of those teams in the PAC 10 don't play defense. The NFL is just as loaded with Pac 10 defensive players as well. HOF caliber ones at that. But sure top to bottom the SEC has the superior athletes and play better D conference wise. I think the Heisman thing is moot in my mind. The Pac 10 runs a wide open offense so they will have Heisman candidates. Not too many SEC teams are that wide open offensively. They play D in the SEC........but when Spurrier opened up Florida's offense and Tennessee open their's up under Peyton those schools terrorized the SEC for that time period. I think it is just offensive philosophy's in the SEC that play into some the none Heisman candidates. We already know defensive players will not get consideration. At the SEC schools you see the best athletes on the team playing defense. The Pac 10 is probably the opposite.

This thread is about a high school kid who left a OVER ACHIEVING football program in Arkansas, which is headed by a dumb coach and an old FART as an AD who doesn't know the internet exists, to go to a school whose starting QB has not only been a Heisman candidate over the past 10 years, but also been drafted as the 1st or 2nd QB in the NFL draft. Why would anybody view this as a MISTAKE?

The last QB from Arkansas to play QB in the NFL left Arkansas for Alabama State. I guess he was a SPOILED BRAT too? Oh, he transfered to a SWAC school, so that is OK.

Look, every kid that goes to a major football program goes with HOPES of one day playing in the NFL. If handing off to McFadden is not going to get you in the NFL, then by all means, get the L out of Dodge.

Outside of USC, what Pac 10 school has won a BCS championship? I can quickly tell you 4 SEC team that's won the BCS championship since it started and I dont need to turn a page to look it up. The SEC is king in college football no matter how some here want to slant it. I think the SEC held down two of the top three spots/positions in the final polls last year. Actually, three of the top 8, Arkansas was ahead of the nearest Pac 10 team and also in the top 20. The Pac 10 is identical to the SWAC a three team conference. The rest of the PAC10, is a step above mid majors.

1. What 3 SWAC schools are you referring to? JSU has only been to one SCG. How is the SWAC a 3 team conference?

2. You all are comparing USC to the SEC and can BARELY win. What SEC school has beaten USC lately?

3. Arkansas? You talking about the team that got whipped by a 3rd place Big 10 school (Wisconsin), but they are a top 8 school in the nation? Please! Arkansas didn't have a quality win this year. They lost to USC, LSU, Florida and Wisconsin.

Naw Bruh, Auburn was 8th(Florida and LSU 1 and 3) Arkansas finished in the top 25 too. Tennessee did too.

OK, I see.

Question, if you were a QB, which school would you choose to attend to become a starting QB with aspirations of making it to the NFL? Arkansas or USC?

No SEC school compares to USC. Maybe if Florida strings together about 5 consecutive years similar to last year they can do so. You do realize that USC is 3 last second losses from being on a 4 & 1/2 year winning streak! What SEC school can make that claim?

You do realize that almost only counts in horsehoes.

Let's not act like USC won all blowouts. They had their fare share of last second, and last minute victories too.

NICE

Only against pac-10 schools. They usually blow through their non-conference schedule. And unlike SEC schools, they actually attempt to schedule good schools out of conference.

UL Monroe and The Citadel send help.

USC whips azz out of conference, especially against mighty SEC schools. A superior coaching staff will always yield superior results. I find it mighty funny that the SEC wasn't busting a grape on the national Landscape until they started hiring coaches outside their Good 'Ol Boy circle (eg., Saban, Meyer.... even sorry-arsed Zook gets some credit for recruiting most of Meyer's talent).

BTW, Spurrier won his NC because he got a "do-over" against another Good 'Ol Boy coach. Fulmer beat that Good 'Ol Boy too, so those championships hardly count in my book. :D

Fuuuugg the $EC.

Exactly. All of these schools have talent(although I've never seen a Matt Leinart or Reggie Bush or even a Dwayne Jarrett in the SEC). However USC is far superior when it comes to coaching. Look at the number of his former assistants who are now in the NFL.

OK, I see.

Neither, I would go to either Purdue or LSU.:jump:

It really depends on who the Quarteback coach was when I signed up.

Does is matter how those close wins came? You were the one talking about thier last second losses, so what's the difference?

As far as SEC scheduling goes, they do schedule good schools out of conference, but they'd be crazy to load on great competition, because the conference schedule is so brutal. Even you, would have to admit that losing a SEC game is more likely for their champion, than it is for SC losing in the PAC-10.

NICE

You are right. Look at the out of conference schedule for 2007
USC => Idaho, Nebraska, Notre Dame

Florida => Western Kentucky, Troy, Florida Atlantic
Arkansas => Troy, N. Texas, Tennessee-Chattanooga
LSU => Middle Tn. State, Virginia Tech, Tulane
Tenn = > Cal, Ark State, Louisiana-Lafayette

You have 4 SEC teams with a total of 12 non-conference games and out of the 12, only 2 will be ranked #50 or higher. USC non-conference is way tougher than the ENTIRE SEC.

And this is a weak non-conference year for USC. Last year it was at Arkansas, Nebraska and ND. Next year they add Ohio State to the schedule. Look at all the directional schools the top SEC teams load up on. That's why they usually get shorted in the BSC game.
