Let's Go Lions, GO!
No, wait ...

LMMFAO!!

LOS ANGELES -- Quarterback Mitch Mustain, who went 8-0 as a freshman starter last season for Arkansas, has transferred to Southern California.

Mustain, who will have three years of eligibility remaining after sitting out next season, is enrolled at USC for summer school and attending classes, sports information director Tim Tessalone confirmed Monday.

....

Wide receiver Damian Williams, also from Springdale, transferred from Arkansas to USC as well. Williams will also have three years of eligibility remaining after sitting out next season.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

He's gonna enter a serious competition for the starting QB position in 2008. He, Sanchez, Corp and 5 other quarterbacks will be vying for the starting position.

Seattle Seahawk Head Coach Mike Holgrem was a quarterback at Southern California. He did not get a lot of playing time.

Here are some quotes from that ESPN article.
-----

I wonder if his mom will hold his hand until the bus arrives in Springdale. Good QB but until he gets off moms teat, he will be no team leader.

They should re-word this article to include the line "Quarterback Mitch Mustain, who went 8-0 as a freshman starter handing the ball off to Darren McFadden last season for Arkansas while throwing nearly as many INTs as TDs, has transferred to Southern California." We don't need you, Mitch. Good luck.

This is the biggest kept secret in the nation. Mitch transferring to USC. He is over-rated. Maybe, Mommy could be his wideout.

^^^^^^^Dizaaam.

Talk about career suicide. I wonder what his mom is going to do, when he can't beat out the 3rd string quarterback. I know dude was hot schit coming out of high school, but going to a school like SC that gets the best of the best every year.........

NICE

You'd think this guy woulda transferred somewhere with no decent QBs on the team. Instead, he goes to a team that is constantly loaded with Heisman calibre QBs. I guess moms can get ready to call a meeting with Pete Carroll about his playing time.

Hell, if Arkansas had a decent QB last season, they woulda played for the national championship, even after USC beat the crap out of them.

Point well taken.

You guys don't get it. Mitch was the #1 high school QB in the nation. He went to Arkansas and simply because DUMB NUTT didn't want to look DUMB by allowing the offensive coordinator play his playbook, Mitch suffered.

The only reason McFadden shined is because the OC had to be creative and get him the ball. If McFadden was all of that, why didn't we hear ANYTHING about him before Mitch and his high school coach got to Arkansas? It was the high school coach who made McFadden who he is, not NUTT. McFadden would have been playing at UAPB in a season or two like all of the other LOST TALENT in Fayetteville.

Mitch played with 4 other guys who got D1A scholarships on his high school team. I'm talking about offers to top football schools (Notre Dame, Florida, etc) and at the specialty positions (QB, wide reciever, tight end). He will be surrounded with the best talent that money can recruit at USC and he will be in the NFL.

Well, now they don't even have that.

Sometimes, when you screw people, you get a little NUTT on yourself.

McFadden is the best player in college football. His talent is unquestioned. Getting McFadden the ball is what any smart coach would do. Pete Carroll got Reggie Bush the ball. Bob Stoops got Adrian Peterson the ball at OU. Get the best player the ball, and your chances of winning greatly improves.

And highly touted high school recruits fail all the time. Mustain ain't the first, and he won't be the last. He just ain't as good as they thought he was. Arkansas had that boss WR, with nobody to throw him the ball. Mustain included. Dude just sucked.

As John Madden said, a coach wins with players. It only made sense for the coaches to get McFadden the ball.

If Mustain and Williams succeed, they will not be the first high school stars to succeed on the college level. If they fail, they will not be the first high school stars to fail on the college level.

McFadden ran for 1100 yards in his freshman season...before Mitch and his coach got there.

I think Mustang would have been better off somewhere else besides USC. They are loaded and have kids already there in the program. No knock on Mustang because I do think Houston Nutt is a Qb killer. See Tavaris Jackson......... I just think Mustang should have picked a school like Boise State or Rutgers. Hell even Miami or Florida State may be in need of a Qb. Minnesota needs a Qb and they now have a NFL coach as their head coach. Plenty of schools for him to choose from. But hey if he thinks he can beat out those guys at USC then so be it.

If Mustain were really smart though, he would have transferred within the SEC West to somewhere like Mississippi St. and beat Houston Nutt's head in every year.

I am sure the condition of his release from Arkansas was not to transfer to another SEC school. Most schools ask that of their transferring players to get that release.

It depends because Ole Miss got a guard David Huertas from Florida, Arkansas got guard Gary Ervin from Mississippi State, and Mississippi State got an offensive lineman from Florida last year.

Sperm you can continue to blame Houston Nutt all you want, but the kid wasn't getting the job done, and Nutt did the right thing by benching him. The kid had one less INT than he did touchdowns, and it wasn't like they were winning because of him, they won despite him. Nutt couldn't sacrifice his team because of Mustain.

So what happens when Mustain gets to SC, and can't beat anybody out? Just think Chris Leak was the number 1 player coming out of high school his senior year, but Reggie Bush was clearly the best player of that class, and mind you, that class also included JaMarcus Russell.

If his dad is around, he'd tell his mother to keep her mouth shut, and let the boy grow up. Just because you're the number 1 player coming out of high school doesn't mean you're going to have immediate success in the collegiate game. Ask Ryan Perriloux is gonna be the starter when LSU opens the season against Mississippi State this year, and this will be his 3rd year at LSU.

The kid should've just done like every other big name recruit does, when things don't go right their freshman year, and just came back this year, and got better, but him, and that WR are going to find out just how hard playing time is to come by at SC, especially with them having to sit out this season, with another highly touted class of freshmen coming in this year, that's going to be ahead of them, by the time they strap up next year.

This kid reminds me of Brock Berlin when he was the number 1 player coming out of high school, and he couldn't beat out a less heralded Rex Grossman at Florida, and ended up transferring to Miami, and still wasn't schit.

NICE

Nice, my argument is this, which when I said it months ago, it came true.

At Arkansas, you don't recruit the best high school QB in the nation and sit him behind CASEY DICK, especially when he is 8-0.

Prime Example.
TEXAS has a good QB by the name of Major Applewhite. They recruited Chris Simms and SAT Major on the bench, even though Major was more experienced and BETTER. If Chris Simms didn't start over no name Major Applewhite, then there is NO WAY they would have landed Vince Young.

Arkansas LOST several TOP recruits because if they are STUPID enough to BENCH the top HS recruit for CASEY DICK, then they would surely be stupid enough to do the same to you. They lost an All-American Lineman out of Rogers, AR (15 miles north of UA). They lost a top QB recruit out of Fort Smith.

Plus, his case was different. He could come back this year, but it was clear the direction of the HOGS was to hand off to McFadden every play. That won't work in the SEC. That is why they lost their last 3 games (LSU, Florida, and Wisconsin).

Man, that Applwhite/Sims thing almost cost Mack Brown his job too. LOL

I feel ya pottna, I do, but Mustain wasn't getting it done, and it wouldn't have been fair to the rest of the team to keep him out there while he was struggling with so much riding on the line. If that team would've just been getting by trying to find themselves it's one thing, but if they have a chance to play for a championship (like they did last year), you have to put the best players on the field.

I'm not saying that Dick will better than Mustain, but for what they were trying to accomplish last year, he was the better man for the job. Mustain has to understand that 98% of coach's will take a strong running game over a strong passing game any day of the week, and will ride a strong running game to a championship before chunking it every play, and if he can't understand that, he's in for a rude awakening.

Hey, I ain't mad at the kid for transferring, because Arkansas is not a school that's known for churning out QB's, but thing I question is his decision to go to SC with all of the talent they have over there, and then having to sit out a season. Basically doing the same thing that he would've done at Arkansas, if he couldn't beat out Dick. (LOL)

Actually I disagree with you on the Texas thing......Vince Young was going to Texas regardless. It had nothing to do with Chris Simms and Applewhite. Actually the UT folks wished Applewhite would have been the starter. I mean he was the Big 12 Player of Year only to get benched because of the promises Mack Brown made to Chris Simms and his Daddy since Simms was almost ready to sign in Knoxville with Tenn. If anything that should have made Vince Young a little antsy that if some kid with a famous father showed up in Austin then I will be benched. Nope that was a different situation with Chris Simms...........had a conversation with a big time UT alum who has his name on stuff in Austin about that whole ordeal in Houston when I lived there. Maybe it would have influenced a kid that didn't live in Texas if Chris Simms had to play behind Applewhite. But ole Vince was going to be a Horn anyway. No way he got away from Texas no matter what would have happened in the Applewhite/Simms deal.

I am sure Arkansas lost recruits with the Mustain deal since it was so public and nasty. I do agree Nutt fugged that up. Made too many promises. Now I think Mustain just fugged up by going to USC. Oh my he better be all world when he hits the field there. USC is loaded. So loaded that the Clausen kid that signed with ND was not even interested to go there and he is from Cali. LOL.

Well, that Clausen kid would have never signed with Notre Dame because that is who Mustain had originally committed to. Arkansas went after the high school QB to get him, his players with Mustain to come to Arkansas. Nutt promised the coach he could do whatever he wanted, but after Mustain signed, he was like PH-U high school coach.

Maybe Vick would have came to Texas anyway. However, it is a matter of being able to keep getting SUPER STAR RECRUITS in order to win. McFadden was no SUPERSTAR RECRUIT, Mustain was. Nutt can get a McFadden everyday of the week. He can't get a Mustain (or SuperStar Recruit) but once in a lifetime.

Man, that Applwhite/Sims thing almost cost Mack Brown his job too. LOL
NICE

Where are they now?

Chris Simms - QB for the Tampa Bay Bucs
Vince Young - QB for the Tenn. Titans
Major Applewhite - Offensive Coordinator for Rice University

Top Recruits - Still coming to Texas, not Arkansas.

Hey Applewhite was not cut out to be a pro QB, but he was still a much better college QB than Simms.
