Well, that Clausen kid would have never signed with Notre Dame because that is who Mustain had originally committed to. Arkansas went after the high school QB to get him, his players with Mustain to come to Arkansas. Nutt promised the coach he could do whatever he wanted, but after Mustain signed, he was like PH-U high school coach.

Maybe Vick would have came to Texas anyway. However, it is a matter of being able to keep getting SUPER STAR RECRUITS in order to win. McFadden was no SUPERSTAR RECRUIT, Mustain was. Nutt can get a McFadden everyday of the week. He can't get a Mustain (or SuperStar Recruit) but once in a lifetime.

LOL at frat. Now Texas was not going to get Vick.......If you notice those kids on that Eastern Seaboard aint too fond of coming to schools down in that part of the country. I have yet to see a Va kid sign with Texas that was all world. They may go to Florida or Ga or maybe Tenn. Texas just aint a destination for them for some reason. Arkansas probably has to worry about that perception over bigger name schools like Texas, Florida, USC, LSU etc.....even Ohio State and Michigan. Kids nationally just don't think Arkansas and now that the Mustain deal went bad, I can agree that puts more of a sour taste in a recruit or his HS coach's mind when it comes to Arkansas. But I am also sure that Arkansas will continue to fool local kids in the state of Arkansas to Fayetteville and continue to recruit well regionally.

Arkansas is just not a household name in National Recruiting circles. You take a kid like Dwayne Jarrett who was from New Jersey........I bet he would have laughed at Arkansas trying to recruit him versus the USC's and others. Mack Brown and Texas don't have that issue. So they can fugg over a recruit or two and not pay the price that Arkansas will. Kids really want to go play there now after Vince took them to the championship. Not mention they are a household name in college football.

Where are they now?

Chris Simms - QB for the Tampa Bay Bucs
Vince Young - QB for the Tenn. Titans
Major Applewhite - Offensive Coordinator for Rice University

Top Recruits - Still coming to Texas, not Arkansas.

Texas will always get star recruits though Sperm, whether Simms had started, or not, just by being the flagship school in talent rich Texas, they will always be able to get the state's top talent. I think Texas may have signed 2 people outside of the state. Also, Simms, nor Applewhite are Texans, but Young is, no way does Mack Brown pull the plug on Vince Young if he's the player of the year in the conference, like he did Applewhite.

He needs to thank Vince Young, because Young saved his job, not Simms. Oh, and Applewhite is the OC at Alabama with Nick Saban. LOL

NICE

Hey Applewhite was not cut out to be a pro QB, but he was still a much better college QB than Simms.

I agree and when all that went down, everybody in Texas thought so too. However, college football is about RECRUITING the best athletes. Mack Brown wasn't going to sacrifice his recruiting reputation for the sake of no name Major. He knew what got him the job at Texas and he stuck with his plan.

Everybody knows you can't come into Texas and even think about talking to an athlete unless Mack Brown has already turned them down.

You right, he was at Rice last year with the last successful coach to coach at Arkansas (Ken Hatfield). How Ironic.

When did top National recruits that were not close to Arkansas ever go there? When was the last time Arkansas brought in a class full of players outside of their region?

Texas is a different animal. That Simms/Applewhite thing had no bearing on who they can get. Mack Brown is a helluva recruiter. Texas campus is bigger than Arkansas and they have more TV/Star power than Arkansas. Not to mention a kid from other regions of the country would rather be in Austin Texas than Fayetteville Arkansas.

BINGO!!! The answer is NEVER. Arkansas has NEVER been able to land a recruit who was ranked #1 in the nation at their position, whether it was an Arkansas kid or NOT. Schools like Arkansas that land even the #1 punter in the nation HAVE TO PLAY THAT PLAYER. The USCs, Michigans, Texas, Notre Dames, Miami, Florida, etc., of the world can get a #1 recruit and not play him because THEY CAN.

If USC #1 recruit gets pissed because they are not playing and they transfer, then OH WELL. Arkansas is no USC. It will be another 500 years before Arkansas land a #1 recruit.

I see what you are saying frat. I agree. Arkansas had less margin for error when it comes to getting recruits and playing them. Well I told Get Ready on the board awhile back that I thought Houston Nutt was overated but hey we will see how he fares now. McFadden is going to play this year and be gone. It will be interesting to see if Nutt can regroup.

:emlaugh: :emlaugh: :emlaugh:

Man, that dude sucks and Chuckie's career in Tampa is riding on that.

You shole is right Beans. Chris Simms is a coach killer. Lucky for Mack Brown he only had a 4 year deal to play at UT. Chuckie is about to get run in Tampa.

Nutt should be able to regroup, because McFadden is going to get a lot of Heisman hype this year. He'll just chalk up Mustain as a spoiled kid who couldn't get his way, and his mom decided to take him out of school. Also, he just had 3 players drafted in the first 2 rounds of the playoffs, with one going in the top 10.

NICE

When Arkansas was in the SWC they had no problem recruiting strong talent..they ran the SWC with ease and UT and A&M, especially UT, wasn't what it is now.

I remember UT tying Rice for a co-title in the 90s and UH ran the SWC with the run & shoot...

Texas A&M was THE Texas school in the 80s and 90s

A&M may have been the Texas school, but it still wasn't the flagship of the state. It is the same in Florida. No matter how good FSU and Miami, they are still not the flagship school of the state. When Texas wins, the state wins. When A&M wins, its just them and their fans.

Also, saying Ark had no problems in the SWC just further justifies a point I always make. The SEC is the best football conference in America.

Sperm, I don't see why you are so fascinated with Mustain. Yes he was great in high school, but he did nothing to warrant any major gurantees from Nutt. He didn't show any major spark or promise last season. You say that the OC wasn't allowed to run his offense? Well who's offense was all of those wildcat formations and gadget plays that Arkansas ran last season. Not Nutt's. Truth is that Mustain is the product of a gimmick offense. That gimmick isn't always cut out for success at the next level. Mustain may be able to go to USC and may prove to be much better that many think. But if he is, he still would not have shown that talent at Arkansas during this past season. He simply was not a very good player.

Mustain will definately benefit from better coaching at USC. But I'm wondering why the Trogans were even interested. I guess he provides some insurance in case Sanchez or Corp doesn't pan out.

He might not have done anything to merit guarantees from NUTTless, but he GOT them, as did his HS coach. Then they got to Fayettehelle, Mustain was benched, and his coach was treated like last month's trash.

THAT, and the fact that I can't stand that damned school, are the reasons why I am :lmao: @ the entire situation. Irrespective of Mustain's talent (or lack thereof), and how many people NUTTcracka has put in the NFL, the people of Arkansas do NOT like how that went down ... not even a little bit.

This is true. Arkansas got a lot of talent when they were in the SWC. They USED to recruit well in Texas. They do not recruit as well there anymore.

During the 80s and 90s the Aggies had a lot more to cheer about than the Longhorns. From the late '70s until Mack Brown got there, the Longhorns were seldom loaded from year to year with the talent they have now.

Suge, what you are not seeing is they did to Mustain what they have been doing to their top black players for years. Its just so happen that they FORGOT Mustain was WHITE and the nation's top RECRUIT. McFadden is good, but he is no different than the Cedric Cobbs type RB that Arkansas find a dime a dozen.

USC can get a Mustain a Dime a Dozen. They proved that when they lost their Heisman QB a few years ago and replaced him with a Heisman QB, then added a Heisman RB (Bush), lost a Heisman candidate receiver to draft issues, and now have a Heisman candidate QB returning next year.

In the end, I'm glad that the program is going down. I hope the Razornecks loose every game. I hope Mustain wins the Heisman.

UA Athletics, pure COMEDY. Didn't they just replace a basketball coach who took them to the tournament with a coach who has never took a team to the tournament?

What Nutt did to Mustain is what every coach does to every recruit they sign. They actually gave Mustain a shot. He just wasn't getting it done. And when the player doesn't get it done, he get's benched. At that point coach sees he doesn't have what he thought he was getting. Now that Mustain has left, Arkansas ain't sweating it. Arkansas was a good QB away from being a serious national championship contender. :read:

Robber you stole my words. It is not about black players or white players, it is about good players. College football coaches don't have the time or effort to be worried about if the kid is white or black. It is about talent and winning. You play well, you get on the field. The better players you have, the more games you win, the more you win....you keep your job.

When coaches start worrying about race over winning and keeping food on their tables, then I will agree with you Sperm. But no one puts anything above themselves. And winning keeps you employed.

Mustain wasn't getting it done. When he got pulled, he was 8-0 and the team was 8-1. They ended up 10-4. So they went 2-4 without him as a starter.

They probably would have ended up 13-1 if he remained a starter. When was the last time you had your engine repaired when it wasn't broken? Only Arkansas would bench a QB who has never lost a game.

He was just getting by. They were not going to beat LSU or Florida with him under center either.

They lost more games than they won after he was benched, so what exactly was he NOT getting done?

They played better teams after he was benched.

Lets see. They got blown out by 50 points by USC. They insert him into the starting lineup. They role off 8 straight wins. They crack the BCS standings, they bench him. They lose 4 or the last 6 games and become the laughing stock of college football for the season.

Yeah, they did get better after he was benched if you say so.

After he was benched they won the first 2 and then they played LSU, Florida and Wisconsin. He played against the likes of Utah State, SEMO, and Louisiana-Monroe.
