smh.. might as well post it...

A lot of these JUCO's are just glorified extended High School for these pink toes. They spend two years there and then transfer to Ole Miss,MSU,USM or Delta State. Or just they just get a Job.

Alabama has quite a few Community Colleges as well.

Re: Jacobs State University?

Man, that sounds like some NWO anti-Christ crap. Hell no I don't want no damn merger. The Mississippi government better find ways to fund our schools. Man, I will sign any petition to stop that stuff from happening.

Mason sounds like a lunatic...and I'm sure the folks who offered up MVSU and Alcorn didn't expect this tangent from their boi. And you want him to lead 14,000? A student population that rivals Ms State?

Truth:
1. Alumni of any merged university will not support this university. I know I'll send my kid out of state before he graduates from this shat.

2. The student numbers will not be sustained...why go there and you have one in your backyard? Thus...declining numbers, decreased state support, finger pointing and a thousand "Itold you so's" later a new cry: Something has to be done!

3. Jacobs State will become University of MS at Jackson within 10 years.

JACKSON STATE UNIVERSITY YOU ARE THE WEAKEST LINK. For 10 pieces of silver you would sell out your brethren...but make no mistake. You will reap what you sow...

CT this is all on Mason not true blue JSU tigers. Maybe we all will have to pay for the sins of Mason but don't put this on the great University that is JSU..

Re: Jacobs State University?

Thanks peeps. I don't head there but I wanted to make sure people were aware.

SS, why don't you consider your president one of yours?

He's from Louisana...............Tulane University with no ties to Mississippi.:(
The JSU Senate and faculty never trusted this guy and people on the outside looking in wondered why they been pressing a no-confidence vote every few years.

Now we know.

as far as transferring.... ive heard of not being released to any school in the conference... never heard of any in state school.... an athlete can always leave, they would just have to sit out longer if not released.....HBCUs as well as other universitys get money based on enrollment.... of course a University with 15,000 students is going to get more money than a school with 2,000 students.

What you are saying is partially true. No one is arguing the point of enrollment and allocation of state funds based on that but a student at Alcorn, Jackson State, and Valley should be invested in just as much as the student's at PWC's in the state. The state invests roughly 8,000 +/- a few hundred dollars in each HBCU student without consideration to faculty and staff. On the other hand Mississippi spends 20,000 +/- per student at PWC's withouth consideration to faculty and staff. This is what is wrong a student in the state of Mississippi is a student in the state of Mississippi and should be treated as such.....

Unbelievable! Why would this man, who should at the least know the individual histories of Mississippi's three HBCU's, willingly construct a plan to basically destroy the identity of all three?

At least with Jindal, we know he doesn't care for anyone other than LSU .... damn.

Step up Mississippi alums .... if you have never fought before, FIGHT now and I would be right beside you.

Im with you on the lottery thing... same thing going on in Alabama... at least yall have casinos.... these Bible Belt Christians not having that in Alabama.

Don't do the lottery thing. It does not work. Illinois claims that the lottery helps fund schools, but it really does not. I spoke with a pol about the lottery and he said state government use that lottery money for almost everything but funding schools. Plus, the lottery targets the poor and elderly.

why does Mississippi have THAT many JUCOs? Are the seniors performing that bad in high school, that their grades arent up to par to be accepted to a 4 year school? Thats ALOT of JUCOs for Mississippi.

Some of the Mississippi JUCOs are feeder systems for Div 1 Football Programs.

our Jucos are SMALL... like one building or two buildings small with the exception of Wallace State. Thats the only one I really call a true JUCO with a campus and dorms. Also Alabama is much larger than Mississippi as far as citizens. Hoover would be the second largest city in Mississippi. Alabama has almost 2 million more people Mississippi.

Our JUCO's have traditionally been placeholders for athletes who did not have the grades to qualify out of HS. LSU had a steady stream of baseball players coming to and from Pearl River CC at one point.

works in Georgia...their "hood schools" are better than our suburbian schools. The lottery targets people who risk wanting to make money... that could be poor, elderly, rich and wealthy. Folks here are going to play the lottery anyway. Tennessee State line is 10 minutes from Huntsville. Drive there and boost Tennessee's economy?

Since I do own property in Sippi, I am writing the Governor and letting him know as a tax payer, I want him to close Ole Miss. I encourage you to do the same. If you pay taxes you the right to suggest this also. Choose one of the big PWC's.

ALL of these JUCO's here have everything a 4 year university have.
Dorms, Student Centers/Unions/ Football/basketball/baseball stadiums, etc.

I don't support closing down JUCO's. Pearl River CC has been very good to my family. My mother, brother, and sister all went to Pearl River CC. These community colleges have helped a lot of the poorer kids in our state.

I sorta agree with this...not that we are the weakest link :licky: BUT I dont' think for a second that he thinks or even WANTS Jacob State to be students from JSU, Alcorn and Valley (we have a total of about 15K students now). Also, JSU's grad school is already about as big as Valley so I don't know where he got 2000 students from.

I think his vision for Jacobs State is one of a culturally diverse university. Of course, those from Alcorn, JSU and Valley will be those who might HAVE to go there first....or risk losing credit hours, etc. However, I think he would want to attract 3-4K whites and that can be done by getting the HBCUs out of the way, raising the admissions standards to ALL schools, feeding the JUCOs and denying some of those who would be accepted to the HBCUs otherwise. I have some JSU pamphlets and I promise you, you will think we are 25% black from the pictures.

Damn. Who in the hell put this dum'ass in power then?

There are a few JUCO's with golf courses bruh.

Exactly so you advocate closing the doors to the three HBCU's to keepthe JUCO's going with their golf cources??

Most of my family attended JSU but we have Valley and Alcornites too. Along with Nortwest CC and Cohoma CC and Hinds CC graduates. Yet I would rather see the number of JUCO's reduced than the HBCU's.
