Seven-game slate possible for SWAC

Again, like I said...you ain't talking about Jackson State...everything is relative. If JSU is broke, everyone else is REAL broke. PERIOD. We may spend more money becasue we do things a certain way but our cash flow is at the top of Black Colleges, academically and athletically. So you need to tell that horse to sit down and break it down to you. Look at it like this...on man can make 100K a year and have a nice car and home and $5 in the bank..while another man can make 50K a year, have a old car and live with two roommates and have $5 in the bank.

So again, you ain't talking about Jackson State.

Never said that JState is broke. But, JState isn't as well off as some of you alums think you are. There was a TON of "fiscal malfeasance" occurring @ JState, from what I was told by your OWN employee of the state/university of 3 years that he attempted to correct and straighten.

And, don't put academics into this. We're discussing athletics/budgets etc.

Where's Jafus? lol

Stagga, obviosly these dumb ass non-athletic presidents know nothing about nothing. They've spoken on debating/voting the 9-game mandate for what.... 2 straight years now? I really don't think it's going to move. So, w/ that being said... what is JSU willing to do so that it's best interests are served since it isn't being served w/ the 9-game mandate?

That's all I'm asking. I respect an entity that sez words and puts actions behind them. Not that empty speak stuff. We @ PV do a LOT of empty-speak. :)

JSU will stay in the SWAC and do what we have to do to survive. We KNOW that we can't survive without the SWAC...and yes, I do think we can move up but only as a group of 8 HBCUs (but this is about the mandate, not 1-A).

However, there is nothing wrong with the SWAC voting favorably for us.

Dude, we know that we are not rich but again, you got numbers for comparisoin?? MOST schools, even bigtime 1-A's spend what they make so basically, they are BROKE!! It ain't how much you have left, its how much you make!! I am CONFIDENT in JSU's cash flow. I am also confident in our Alumni giving...it may not be where Ohio State is but it at the top of HBCU's. So don't try to down us with something that is not even a real argument because even if we raise another million dollars, it will be spent and we will be broke again!! Again, it's about what you make!! If you look at the commissioners cup, JSU and SU are always at the top becasue our football revenue allow us to spread more money around....yeah, we have to spend it and we need WAY more of it...but the thing we DON'T need to do is cut into that resource and that is what the mandate does.

Yep.....................I know the President's are thicker than theives on this "play everybody so nobody get's left out mess".
PRESIDENTS have to be leaders...................They are in academics.
They suck in ATHELETIC LEADERSHIP.....................EVERYONE OF THEM. :shame:

To be honest, there is nothing JSU or any other school can really do except sit back and drown in A mediocre sports conference because we never see anything except the same ole coaches, teams, plays, and styles year after year.

The only thing that gonna help is schools at least trying to stand on their own.
That ain't gonna happen as long as the "no child left behind" rule is in effect at the top.

Hell, we so organized, our CONFERENCE CHAMPS was crowned after 2 NATIONAL CHAMPS were crowned..............1-AA and D2.

That kind of thinking is gonna take this conference another 6 inches foward in the next 20 years. :shame:

Looks like you just got caught up in a messy conversation. :read:

That was sad. We played the last conf championship game of the year. Play it on the campus of the team with the best record and you can play it after the BC. At least you don't look dumb as a box of rocks. Or alternate it among schools in the SWAC with room just a nuetral site. Waiting on Highschool playoffs to play a college game. Priceless.:shame:

MD If we cannot win it in a 7 game mandate we don't deserve it but I know we can fill our schedule with meaningful games and we will get to the SCG again. This mandate has to go it's just sad.

I think you may need to look up 167 North and ask what your administration said during the SWAC meetings that just took place....

our conference school's need help

We are talking about the 7 game mandate, not baseball or any other sport. Again, there is simply no way in L that a football program can gain a competitive edge over ANYBODY because they lack a baseball program. That is STUPID. UALR doesn't have a football program, it doesn't give them a competitive edge over anybody in the Sun Belt conference when it comes to basketball.

Some *ish you say and don't say is STUPID.

There is a lot of money to be made in football and the 9-game mandate hampers our ability to make it. With the 12th game added in I-A, more of those schools are looking to add I-AA teams. We should be taking full advantage. The paydays run from $250,000 to $600,000 but our conference officials seem slow to cash in, while forcing our basketball teams to collect $40,000 to $50,000 checks from horrible money games. It takes four basketball money games to equal one I-A payday. The math is simple. We stop playing all of those basketball money games and add more I-A football games and classics to make up the difference. And there was no shame in the way a few of our teams performed against I-A teams this year. Alcorn hung tough against Louisiana-Monroe and Grambling loss 42-22 to Houston who won Conference USA. But our officials have to get off their butts and make deals in advance. Football skeds are made years in advance but here in the SWAC we wait until the off-season and have to scramble to add Paul Quinn or Concordia.

Actually in our conferance it does, football and basketball are our meat and potatoes for funding our athletic depts. Since those two sports are the money makers and if you don't have to fund the same number of sports as everyone else is, you're putting that extra money back into those money sports giving you a monetary advantage.

On another note:
How bad is it there has been 2 PLAYOFF SERIES and 2 NATIONAL CHAMP'S crowned before we crowned our conference champs.

Move the date back...............3rd week of December is too long to wait for this game.:goof:

Those games has nothing to do with the Swac. The SCG is the Swac's own private bowl game, so you can really say that this is the first bowl game of the season.

Think about....if you field 63 full scholarships like Team B does....... and play in the same classic Team B does.....

your going to have money left over after distribution of classic money as an example.....the difference between 18 and 15 sports is a big difference....

or to break it down in layman's terms...you got 3 kids and get paid 1,000 a month and I have no kids and get paid 1,000 a month....who will have more after the net?

but I don't know anything....I never have worked in athletics or sat in meeting and heard what your leadership has to say

Layman's terms... Football and Basketball are like "Electricity and Water". Baseball is like "Cablevision". If you don't have enough money for all three, which one you don't pay? I let cable go and you don't. In the end, my electricity is no better than yours, even though I have more money left over from not having to pay cable.

Getting rid of a non-revenue generating sport does not give you a financial competitive edge in the SWAC. Not having to field a bowling team, does not make your basketball team or football team any better.

This thread is about the 7 game mandate.

you cut $100K from Bowling and track that's worth at least 2 extra coaches, more scholarships or equipment, etc. towards football if one chooses. We all know it ain't going to basketball because your top assistant bolted.....

it's no coincidence just one program rises on your campus once you drop certain sports while the others remain the same...

If you have forgotten, UAPB lost HOSTING a home game in 2004 (SU). That equates to $500,000 in revenue NOT GENERATE. UAPB athletics does not have a SURPLUS. That money had to make its way back into the budget one way or another and in Arkansas, the state does not allow schools to rob Peter to pay Paul. In other words, UAPB could not take the surplus from other departments (Math, Music, Science, etc.) to make up for that budget short fall.

Did you ever think that money not spent on other programs make up for the money NOT GENERATED from 2004? NOPE, you didn't.

You are the biggest dumbass in the universe! You were kissing, licking, sucking that man's ass when y'all hired him! When you were told that he was as pitiful a coach as you are dumb, you defended him and annointed him the second coming!

Do yourself and the rest of the SP a favor and shutthehellup with that experimental isht! If you want to tell yourself that to ease the pain of that sorry fool, have at it. The history books (that y'all love to reference) will reflect that the dummy known as James Bell was your coach from 2003-20, and it won't say isht about no damned experiment!

What a fool you are!

TP is what he is and so you just have to let him be. He doesn't know any better.

Sperm.....yall making a few bucks over there....why lie...but your folks also want a piece of the TV action that has nothing to do with the SWAC...call your AD and ask
