Seven FCS teams cash in via upsets

You got me. I'm not privy to what John owns or doesn't own. He's been practicing law in Lincoln Parish for pretty much all his adult life...I'd be surprised at any business venture in Lake Charles...but, again, that's not ever been anything we talk about...

No, but you did insert Foster into this conversation and I had to let you know he wasn't that great of a governor, which is how Kathleen Blanco ended up being governor.

The conversation was about the admissions policy at La., HBCU's...then it morphed into the administration and how that was a hinderance because of politics. John Belton served Southern's board very ably and very diligently and he was a political appointee, so I mentioned that he'd worked out well... You asked me if I knew who selected the folks for the Southern Board, and I answered affirmatively....

I don't recall saying anything about Foster's abilities as Governor...But, thanks for sharing your views...You know, I was kinda confused about youe political orientation after the Syria thread. I don't think you made your views plainly known! ;)

I can't speak for any other state, but the PWC FCS schools in Louisiana are all state schools, as are the two HBCU's in Louisiana. The admissions policies are equal. Southern has it's own board, but...you can't tout Southern as an example of a team with tighter entrance restrictions than the PWCs in Louisiana...not with their grade fixing scandal several years back...And, not everybody with a record of success is willing to take just any transfer....

Just last year, when Tyrann Mathieu got into trouble at LSU, he loaded up his belongings and headed to Lake Charles with the expectation that he'd walk right in and play. Matt Viator explained that he needed to step back, take a deep breath and think about what he wanted to accomplish...and that if he needed to be sure he wanted to be at McNeese because there were going to be conditions and expectations before he'd be able to set foot on the field...Viator told him that he needed to go back to New Orleans and think about things over the weekend and that they'd talk, if Matthieu still wanted to, after that....

They were the same conditions and expectations that were laid out to Jantzen Jackson, who's father Lance Guidry, was - at the time - a former McNeese coach and player, the previous year when he got into trouble at Tennessee...Lance is back on staff now..

Matthieu apparently didn't like what he heard and decided not to enroll...

We turn FBS transfers away all the time...it depends on the kid..why he left the previous school and whether or not we have a tie to him....we've taken exactly ONE kid that we didn't have some sort of tie to...a QB from Tulsa who transferred in, but he came down, asked for the opportunity and paid his own way...he ended up playing a considerable amount for us before a concussion sidelined him for about half the season....

What the heck does that have to do with entrance restrictions? Those were graduate students, and that incident was handled. That has nothing to do with incoming students.

Likewise, because you never went into details about why you support certain policies, other than you have been a lifetime White Republican. :swink:

It's easier to transfer to mcneese and lamar compared to SWAC schools.....outside of mcneese, most of the slc are fans who wish they could go to bigger schools.....

I got to know Belton well as he was behind the robinson museum....he's cool

That was uncalled for and unwarranted.:smh::emlaugh:

So the ineligible players that Southern had in 2004 and 2005 were all Graduate Students? Or has there been more than one grade fixing scandal??

It was no more unwarranted than the comment it responded to about how the PWC's are easier to get into and will do anything to win...that's simply not true...

I say both parties need to apologize to each other or have both teams settle it on the field...su versus mcneese.

I guess since McNeese is considered one of those lower tier PWC's, Southern is easier for you to criticize. I'm sure you never considered attending LSU or ULL.

You KNOW Southern doesn't want that spanking ;) They had a chance, and they FINALLY bought their way out of the contract...so, we're square on that deal...

Anytime they wanna re-up, though...we're game ;)

I NEVER considered USL. Not even for a second. Friends don't let Friends go to USL....I did have a very brief conversation with LSU...I grew up in Sulphur, reading about McNeese in the American Press. That's where I wanted to play...I was fortunate enough to get a full-ride from McNeese...I only took two other visits...La Tech and Northwestern...

Didn't ULL take McNeese off of their schedule for many years because they felt you all were substantially beneath them and it wasn't the direction they wanted to go in?

What do you mean "bought their way out of a spanking"? Please expound a bit more.

They finally managed to win one in 86, which was a DOWN year for us..then said there'd been "clear separation" between the programs, despite the fact that it was their first win against McNeese since the late 60's....finally, after 21 years they agree to play us again in 2007..

After that game, I agree. There is clear separation betwen the programs....and we beat them by one point for every freakin year they made us wait to beat the dog snot out of them....

To illustrate the point, we took a knee on THEIR 12 yard line with just under two minutes to go and ran out the clock and left the score at 38-17...

You know you're rubbing it in the face of an FBS team when you drive the length of the field, just to show them you can, and then take a knee rather than give them a 45-17 beat down...but....they know ;)

LOL...stop me if you've heard this one before....but....in 2004, we took the worst team we've had in 30 years and went to Mumford and knocked them around the place. It's a great stadium and all the Blue and Gold looks good there. It's just not the right shade of blue is all...

Anyway, in 2005, they cancelled the football game due to the Force Majure of Hurricane Katrina on Saturday...nevermind that they send the soccer teams to play in Lake Charles on Sunday...but that's a whole different story...

So then we talked to them about rescheduling it for 2006....the discussions were pretty interesting...

From our perspective, we went there, first, in good faith, gave them their largest attended home game that year, spent money at the gate on the higher ticket prices they charged for that one game, in the concession stands, etc. And then when it came time to sack up and return the trip to LC...they backed out....

It took a year or two, but they finally paid the buyout clause...

So, we're good ;)

The comment was not needed. First, the grade scandal was students that were already enrolled, not students applying. Southern's entrance requirements are in general similar to all tier 2 schools in the state. We all know who the only tier 1 school is. That grade scandal was a lot of years ago, and have nothing to do with entrance requirements now.

Wow!! They raised the prices, still got whupped then cancelled on the return game yet sent the soccer team? Interesting indeed.
Perhaps the two teams can reschedule in the near future provided one isn't afraid of the other.

Any how, back to the original topic.

That is a good narrative and a greater circumvention. :emlaugh: You know good and well ULL tossed you all off of their schedule because they perceived you all as a low grade opponent that they wanted to distance themselves from. Southern U didn't do you all any worse than ULL did. You all are McNeese for goodness sake. :emlaugh:

You can't consider somebody that you only beat ONCE in a 15 year period to be beneath you...I mean, yeah, they managed two ties...but, come on....we're talking about USL..a team with a life-time .459 winning percentage in 120 years of football...they have exactly TWO 9 win seasons...3 eight win season and then a whole LOTTA 6-5s and 4-7s..

Frankly, USL ducking us for 21 years probably helped us....we upgraded our strength of schedule by getting some Division II schools into Cowboy Stadium. If we'd have played USL, it would have only hurt our strength of schedule rankings and our seeding in the playoffs! ;)

Like I said, Southern ultimately did the right thing and paid the buy out clause. We're cool! ;)

So you are say McNeese is currently in a better position than ULL? :emlaugh:

They said they were in a much better position than us from 86 till 2007....we played....they were wrong...

That still hasn't stopped them from claiming that they're in a much better position than us now....Last year we beat the number two team in their conference, Middle Tennessee...who finished ABOVE USL, along with Arkansas State..

They can say whatever they want. Until they prove it on the field, it's all conjecture...and they've NEVER proven it on the field.
