I would prefer Graham, but for maybe 3 or 4 million a year or whatever the net of cutting dead weight like Vilma, Smith, or Harper. Brees may have to restructure also. However Graham is still going to command a big salary that a small market team like the Saints may not be able to afford long term. Also, I don’t see Brees wanting to restructure just like Carson Palmer didn’t want to give the Bengals a break. What do we do about Cameron Jordon later? He is going to want to get paid too. A lot of teams are going to want to throw 9 or 10 million Graham’s way. I just don’t want see the Saints pay that much for a tight end. I want to see big money on the defensive side of the ball. The Saints need to spend 9 million a year for sacks on the likes of the Wilsons, Newtons, and RGIIIs of the league or a big powerful running back that can take control late in the game like an Adrian Peterson. Maybe crowd noise and bad weather won’t bother us then.
I don’t expect many a Saint fans to agree with me and Kendrick also. :lol:
Graham is the centerpiece of the Saints offense, and is the team's most mportant player outside of Brees. Being a small market franchise doesn't matter in the NFL like it does in other sports. The Saints can always franchise Graham, and Brees can take less money - something Tom Brady has done so the Pats could allocate money elsewhere.

You can only franchise a player so many times, after that, what then? Maybe making him the centerpiece may need to be reevaluated. Seattle just beat the crap out of us without a TE of Graham’s caliber. Russell Wilson a quarterback only gets $500,000 a year. How much are they paying for a TE? Also, we did win a Super Bowl without him.

Russell Wilson won't make $500K/ year for long. Jimmy Graham was making $400K in his 2nd year.

I'm a realist...we got ass kicked like when we used to wear Brown Bags over our head. I strongly believe that if we play Seattle again we will win. It will be a close game but we will win.
That's because Wilson was drafted in the third round and is still under his rookie deal.

Wilson at the rates he is going he will get paid on a future date. But when that time comes that will be Seattle’s problem. Last night it was the $500,000/year Wilson that the Saints could not stop, and again WITHOUT a TE of Grahams caliber. They drove us when we have the best TE in the game already so what will change giving Graham a lot of money. I’m not saying Graham is not a talent and a very exciting player to watch. But what is he doing for the Saints that we did not have before he got here. We had one of the top offenses before he put on a Saint jersey.

Just ask Tom Brady how much he missed Gronk at the start of the season. Graham makes Brees' job and the WRs job a whole heck of a lot easier out there even though he was somewhat held in check against Seattle.
The Saints are going to find a way to keep their 1,000-yard receiving TE, as they should.

We have had success against the saints recently even with the loss. I think we match up with yall pretty well. We haven't been able to stop Graham.

So, you are saying Marcus Colston did not look good before Graham got there? He is the all-time leading Saint WR. That didn't happen the few years since Mr. Graham join the team. Graham catches a lot of passes mainly because the Saints throw the ball 50 or 60 times a game. Graham is an important weapon in Brees arsenal but he was throwing for lots of yards before Graham got there and won a Super Bowl. I would hate to lose Graham but I'm tried of losing to Seattle. What I saw last night is that with Graham we lose 34-7 instead of 34-0.

Colston is a very good WR and has accomplished a lot with the Saints, but their passing game is centered around Graham. Teams game plan to stop him. The Pats put their best defensive back - Talib - on Graham, not Colston. And the Seahawks made sure, by their coverage schemes, that Graham was not gonna be much of an option for Brees. Seattle has the personnel to do that. But, it's rare he's held in check like that.
I would be more concerned that the Saints were unable to generate a pass rush (they gave up 34 points) or run the ball well enough against Seattle more so than Graham. It doesn't matter what the TE does if the defense can't disrupt the opposing offense.

Well, Jimmy Graham says that way is STARTING at $12 million a year.
I know this is just a little haggling. You say high we say low then we meet in the middle. But I still say let him walk, who is going to give him that kind of money. But the Saints may have to let him walk anyway. They are just $5 million under the cap now. That’s not enough to pay him the franchise tag as a TE let alone as a WR.

The cap as of yesterday has increased significantly. He won't get 12 mil but he will be the highest paid TE in the league as he should. Loomis is working on restructuring contracts and possible cuts.
A team that needs an elite, All-Pro pass catcher.

Jimmy Graham only led the league in TD catches and was the top TE in yards. Folks who say that soft B.S. fail to realize that the guy has been playing injured for about 2 years now. He could improve on his run blocking but other than that he's on track to be a hall of famer.

It's possible but you don't just let a guy who's your QB's ultimate weapon and led the league in TD's walk. Loomis will work the cap like he always does and re-sign him and a few other nice free agents. We let Graham walk and I can tell you now ATL, The Pats, or Seattle would sign him in a heartbeat and it would come back to haunt us.
