Scottie Pippen: LeBron might be better than Michael Jordan

What did he do in game 6..... He went out with a TRIPLE DOUBLE..... What about the decision. Damn just say you don't like the man.

See this...

It was a triple double, but it definitely wasn't a good game and he didn't look all that interested in playing. Games 4 and 5 were even worse. That being said, Pippen's assertion isn't as far out of left field as people think. LeBron has the skill set to be better than Jordan, it's a matter of does he have the dedication and sheer strength of will.

In other words... anyone watching game 6 saw he wasnt going all out... he quit. Anyone that watched game 6 saw he quit. The GOAT doesn't quit/p-foot around for 3 games especially when he single-handedly got them the series lead in game 3 of that series against Boston. I was really young watching that 63 point game Jordan had against Boston and he tried to will his team to a win in that series even if they didnt win.

And as far as me not liking Lebron, I can admit to actually kind of liking him UNTIL last summer. The Decision coupled with those games against Boston plus a lot of stuff since then pretty much turned me into anything anti-Lebron.

I can give credit where credit is due. Lebron, for his size, might one of the most talented players to ever grace the court. He's basically a more athletic Magic. But he has to actually accomplish something before he can be mentioned with Jordan (that's Skip Bayless reason as to why he doesnt care for Lebron. Crowning himself the King before winning any rings. Negro aint T.I. lol)

Lebron has nowhere the mental toughness MJ had, especially in clutch situations. Lebron may have comparable physical skills to a degree, but he certainly doesn't have the basketball IQ nor the mental toughness in clutch moments of the game that Jordan had and probably never will.

That is certainly the difference at this point. MikeBigg and ScottieRobin (Batman's side kick) are on some other kind of "stuff." :emlaugh:

Dude (lol)... Didn't I say MJ is the best I've seen? I said that LeBron can do somethings that MJ wasn't able to do...and that in time, he COULD surpass MJ. That's what Pippen said... Just an opinion. Not dissing MJ... but really to be honest "F" Him! And I mean no malice toward him...but "F" him just the same.

btw what makes Jordan G.O.A.T. Jordan never averaged a triple double. He never averaged 50 points a game. Wilt averaged 50 ppg and 25 rebounds one year and Bill Rusell won 10 championships.

When Jordan didn't have Pippin how many championships did he win?

Truth be told, Penny Hardaway had a better skill set than Jordan. Saw him play in high school. But we see how that turned out.

MB, that is your opinion and you're entitled to it. Folks watching Lebron right now are being brainwashed and are prisoners of the moment for even hinting that Lebron will surpass Jordan.

Lebron's basketball IQ is still lacking far behind Jordan's, as is his mental toughness.

In my humble, yet right opinion, Lebron will never surpass Jordan in those two areas.

Chamberlain is perhaps the only person who may be able to rival Jordan as the greatest player of all time.

Uhhh, no he didn't. Hardaway couldn't play defense; his jump shot wasn't consistent and he certainly didn't have the explosive first step like Jordan.

I think you are vastly underestimating LeBron James basketball IQ. Even at 18, you could see how well he understood the game, and the strengths and weaknesses of his teammates and the opponents. NBA coaches and executives over the years have raved about how smart of a basketball player he is.

"His basketball IQ is on the level of Bird, Magic and Jordan and their basketball IQ was off the charts. He's developed a killer instinct. You see a certain fierceness, something he's developed the last few years. His IQ is one of the highest I've ever seen. -- Bernard King

"At his age, it's his knowledge of the game. You can tell that he studied the game early on and that makes him so much better than the rest. He's a student of the game."
-- Dominique Wilkins

"He's at the top. LeBron has that gift. Like Elgin, Oscar, West, Russell, Bird, Magic, Michael. They know before a game starts that if the game plan presented on the board isn't going to work to perfection, then they'll tweak it. -- Julius Erving

I think when it is all said and done, James will be the greatest player ever. His potential is limitless. Again, there is nothing Jordan did on the floor than LeBron can't do. There are some things LeBron does or skills he has that Jordan never had or never was able to do.

This is a very valid point. Personally, I think its hard to say that Jordon was the G.O.A.T (because of how the game of basketball has evolved), but I think one can say he was the greatest during the time he played. Before he got into the NBA it was all about Magic and Bird. If anything, one can safely say that Jordan is the most celebrated NBA player of all time.

OFFENSIVELY- Jordan, Defensively- Lebron, but not by much and only because LB can guard larger players. They both had/have lock down skills. Rebounding- Lebron, Steals-even, Basketball I/Q- Jordan. Not to say that Lebron is deficient but MJ'S is just higher to me. When the games on the line- Jordan. Stronger Mentality- Jordan. At times it seems as if LB let's what's going on around him affect his game. Jordan didn't GAF!! Competitiveness- Jordan. Toughness- Jordan. How about winning 3 in a row, retiring then coming back and winning 3 more...in a row!!!. Sharing the ball- LB. Trusting your teammates and looking for them on the offensive end could tie back into I/Q. LB does it and he didn't have to be told to do it.(hint, hint)We must take into account that we are judging Jordan over a career and LB for the last 7-8 years. It'll be interesting to revisit this thread when LB's career is over.

My take on the matter is that you're looking through this deal in two different eras of the NBA. I know that Pippen has His own opinion and he's entitled to that, but my take is that He won't surpass Mike as The G.O.A.T.

MJ played in an era that had more aggression and passion on the court. LeBron is playing in a overly politically correct league where if you sneeze the wrong way, you'll get fined a few stacks. Not to mention way too much acting on-court with fouls. Plus the fact that Jordan really didn't have a mega-star team like LeBron does with Miami. Yes, Jordan had Pippen, Rodman, Kukoc, Horace, etc. But out of all of whom I just mentioned could never be a superstar team leader/franchise guy like Mike was, with the possible exception of Pippen.

You don't have too many teams in the league today with a bench depth like the Bulls of that era and their rivals of the day. I'm not doubting LeBron's athletic skill and prowess, because he's got that, but it's all about having that balanced with great psychology, and that part of the balance will take your game much farther. LeBron hasn't really shown much of that side of his game, but I do see it coming along.

I think the only reason some people are saying that are because LBJ is playing at this time and where watching him..
An I have no problem with Pip's comment..Everone is intitled to thier opinion..I still think MJ is the GOAT though

Dennis Rodman -- HOFer
Scottie Pippen -- HOFer
Toni Kukoc -- Nine time European Player of the Year
Horace Grant -- Four time All-NBA Second Team Defense

While these guys weren't on Jordan's level, they were no slouches either. Name one guy who played with LeBron in Cleveland who came close to these credentials?

Good point, and the only one I can name (although it was just for one season) is Shaq.

Shaq????? an old injured Shaq who didn't play most of the season? The players that James made a household name (Mo Williams for example) will never be heard from again.

Could Jordan guard LeBron? Could LeBron guard Jordan? Who has the advantage?

Some of those who are saying LeBron will never surpass Jordan (and I don't think he will in terms of championships) are some of the same folk who were just last season stating that Kobe was better than Jordan.

Dude, what else are they supposed to say? They're being politically correct. Lebron simply bowls his way to the lane using his size and strength. That doesn't require much basketball IQ.
He stands at the top of the key and dribbles the clock down, then he makes his charge to the goal or he'll jack up a three. That has nothing to do with basketball IQ.

As far as him having a killer instinct, I haven't seen it on a consistent basis and his basketball IQ is not where Bird, Magic, Jordan's were. At the end of games, Lebron has missed shot after shot in clutch situations until recently. He hasn't been a clutch shooter over the last three or four years.

Hmmmm......Let's see. 6'8 250 pounds and can dribble like a PG sounds like he's being smart to me. What about all of those nice passes? What about his rebounding? What about the defense? Lebron has always had a high basketball IQ. As a matter of fact I don't believe there was ever a rookie that came straight out of high school that had a higher basketball IQ coming into the league.

Some people confuse overwhelming athleticism and talent with high basketball IQ. In the last two minutes of games, Lebron hasn't shown much IQ. He takes crazy shots and dribbles down the shot clock and ends up jacking up shots that makes no sense at all.
He's learning to take better shots by watching and learning from Wade over the last series or two.

He's still growing as a player but that doesn't mean he don't have basketball IQ. He's well beyond his years in that dept. I'm not saying that he will surpass MJ but if there was anybody who could it's Lebron.

Oh, one more thing though it may not mean much. The Mavs have beaten Miami 14 straight times and 20 out of the last 22 times.
