Scottie Pippen: LeBron might be better than Michael Jordan

Speaking on ESPN Radio on Friday morning, in the wake of the Miami Heat eliminating the Chicago Bulls in the Eastern Conference finals, Scottie Pippen warned not to sell Heat forward LeBron James short.

"Michael Jordan is probably the greatest scorer to ever play in the game, but I may go as far to say LeBron James is probably the greatest player to ever play the game," said Pippen, who is still affiliated with the Bulls but also has a South Florida residence.

"Not only can he score at will, but he keeps everybody involved. You have to be on your Ps and Qs because everybody is a threat to score when he's on the floor. Not only that, LeBron James will dominate the game on the offensive end and he's able to do it on the defensive end as well. He can get in those passing lanes and dominate the game."

Pippen going to far. I used to dislike Lebron. I was never a big fan. Now that everyone hates him, I support him. I guess it is just the rebel in me. I refuse to be a bandwagon jumper.

Pippen is simply giving his opinion. I still think Jordan is the best of all-time, but when I look at the package that is LeBron James I don't see a lot of weaknesses. The only area that he's not exploited or shown he can do enough (imo) is the post up game. With his size, handles, and passing ability/vision he would be a serious problem for folks in the post.

I still think MJ is the GOAT right now but Lebron is only 20 something years old and if he keeps playing at this level and stays healthy he could very well surpass MJ as the GOAT. Lebron has an all around game. Ball handling, speed, size, scoring, assists, reb's, steals, blocks, ect. He's a monster so I don't have no problem with Scottie's statement.

There is nothing Michael Jordan did that LeBron James can't do in terms of basketball skills and ability.

That's probably true skills wise ... but there are gonna be two things that will no doubt keep Lebron from being the GOAT:

1. Games 5 & 6 in the 2010 Eastern Conference Semifinals
2. The Decision

What did he do in game 6..... He went out with a TRIPLE DOUBLE..... What about the decision. Damn just say you don't like the man.

I don't understand why the "Decision" is the source of so much condemnation. We live in the age of the over hyped athlete...but in this case, it wasn't LeBron's idea. And didn't he have some of the money generated from this donated to Charity? Even if not... why condemn the man for moving to a better (IHO) work situation?

As to the comparision... I'm not of the opinion that LeBron is better than Jordan (yet). But I will say this... he could be an all-star at 4 positions (PF, SF, Shooting Guard, Point). That gives him an edge over Mike... Jordan could play 3 positions offensively, but I'm not sure how well he would have faired on the defensive end playing the 3.

It was a triple double, but it definitely wasn't a good game and he didn't look all that interested in playing. Games 4 and 5 were even worse. That being said, Pippen's assertion isn't as far out of left field as people think. LeBron has the skill set to be better than Jordan, it's a matter of does he have the dedication and sheer strength of will.

Lebron has nowhere the mental toughness MJ had, especially in clutch situations. Lebron may have comparable physical skills to a degree, but he certainly doesn't have the basketball IQ nor the mental toughness in clutch moments of the game that Jordan had and probably never will.

To play devil's advocate, maybe he doesn't believe in being an azz with his teammates like Jordan did. Everyone's personality is different...but in terms of physical skills, LeBron is very impressive.
