Texas Southern was clearly the bball team of the 90's followed by JSU. Alcorn was clearly the SWAC bball team of the 80's followed by Southern.

There is not dominant program in the SWAC thus far in 00's.

Well find the amended list. I know you want to post how many titles SU won before JSU, Alcorn and Gram joined the SWAC. Let's face it, the SWAC as we know it was formed in the late 50's.

Step away from the CRACK pipe. You sound like those "folks" that teach HIStory in our public schools.

 You sound like "one of dem folks that wants everything to be about SU, and if it aint, it's gotta be wrong!." :smh:

The TRUTH shall Set you FREE J-Rock That is.......if you wanna be set free!

I thought in 91 Southern won the tournament and went to the big dance and upset Georgia Tech.

Nice info NT but where is the link to the info? Also i thought that we won that 1974 game in the downtown centorplex.

It was the first year that the Swac qualified to go to the big dance. A real good friend of mine from printess ms. was on that team and Su had five guys to get drafted that year off of ours.

JRock, how is the information not credible? I hope you have a good reason for seeing that!

AW,

I qualified credible with COMPLETE. SWAC championships did not start in 57. I would like to see a link with the complete history. The post is suspect with only part of the data.

JRock, credible does not mean that something is complete. Credible means that all information printed is accurate and the information about the titles is accurate to the best of our knowledge. Did you think that they might not have kept basketball stats until '57? Maybe the person NT, got this from didn't have stats before '57. Did you think about that?
Don't just say that because the information only started at '57 that it's not credible. The sources that NT got the information from probably only had the records starting at '57.

My point is that unless there are some just complete and obvious errors throughout the information, this info is credible and accurate.

I'm starting to think like TP. You just want us to see all the B-ball titles SU probably won before the SWAC as we now know it was formed.

In 1977, the starting five for Texas Southern went to Kansas City to prepare for the national championship tournament. The rest of the team stayed behind and played for the conference title and won. The SWAC champions later joined the starting five in KC afterwards and won a national championship.

National title of what

Bluedog,

Texas Southern University 1977
NAIA National Championship Title

Prairie View A & M University 1962
NAIA National Championship Title

AW

Of course I would like to see S.U. (and anyone else championships) prior to 57. All of those questions you wrote is moot. The list is INCOMPLETE and no matter how you spin it or what reasons ALL championships were not listed. The summation of championships are not completely credible and that is the bottom line. I am certain that not only did S.U. win conference titles prior to then but at least 1 national title. I doubt very serious if P.V.'s tally is correct also.

Ok

JRock you can't condemn the title listings just because the records don't have anything before '57. I just did a check for myself and you should be proud of what NT found. According to this site, Southern only has 7 titles and the supposedly keep records going as far back as 1938!

Just congratulate NT for taking his time to post this information because he didn't have to do it.

AW.....

No one is "condemning" the data and of course NT should be commended. My comments however are valid and should be (as they were) disclosed. This isn't only about S.U. and what you were able to locate. PV, Pine Bluff and S.U. all have at least a quarter of a century of info missing. When somethings are incomplete or a disclosure needs to be conveyed, it is not uncommon for someone to commment (and usually ask for a link). There is no personal agenda but I do questions those who are defensive because of truthful comments.
