Once Again Need Musical Help From TSPNers, esp ASUer Circa 1982.

I often solicit your help in identifying music that I don't know the title and artist of. Once again I need your help. Not many can help me on this one. This song was out during the summer of 1982, my pre-freshman year at Tuskegee. I used to hear it all the time on the Tuskegee station (WBIL FM) and on this station out of Prattville WQIM ("QIM" FM).

I don't think anyone outside of people in the area during that time could help with this one,, but if you can that would be great.

There was this song out at the time, kinda a crossover from disco to HH,, upbeat and all i know is some of the main choruses. It was kinda like computerized and one of the main hooks was something like "A.E.R(keep dancin')O.B.IC" "you can do it in your place, even in outerspace, (some'in, some'in) haven't got time to waiste keep dancin' ",,, it seems like it was some kind of song for dancing while doing erobics, but it was very popular the summer of 1982. Does anyone know this song? i'm way off on the hooks,,, that's all i can remember. i don't have the tapes with the song on it (I used to be in the dorm room recording music on Friday night on the FM radio stations. I'd be skipping between some station out of Atlanta that you could only get after a big rain, the Tuskegee station and the Prattville station.). I have done google searches and everything on "AEROBIC" but have come up empty. Please help! I gotta have this song!

Oliviea Newton John perhaps?????

I don't think so; it was a group, multiple singers,, sounded female though,, kinda like Chic maybe, but I know Chic's style well and this was not Chic.

Another thing,, the begining started off with a siren in the background, like many songs of that era. all of the musicals was keyboard/synthesized,, like the Prince and Time music of the era.

Is this it?

No, that's not it, but that song was out at the exact same time, a big hit! That was another one of my freshman year favorites! :flippy: oooooh MAN!! what memories! "crab!" this "crab!" that! 90 degrees and 70% R/H in the morning marching down to that dusty-arse field behind Cleve-Abbott Stadium with paper bag on head, white t-shirt, dial soap cut into a "T" (trumpet) and blue jeans,, all after being at Thompkins Hall at a crisp 5:00 AM in formation and marching around singing songs and doing stupid-ish for the upperclass Marching Crimson Pipers :redhot: before breakfast and further "crabbing" in the cafe. then going to a block party in front of Tompkins but you can't be caught by yourself by a Piper or your arse was grass. aah man,, what memories, what memories i say!

back to the song, i have not heard it since, i don't have a real copy of it,, just recordings from the radio, have not heard it since not even on VH1 or MTV in those documentaries.

Are these the lyrics:

Aerobic Lyrics:
If you?re sad and feeling low
And your mind is really down
Better get in shape you know
You can do it when your party down
Come and do this dance with me
Everybody on the floor
Ebony or ivory, it?s a dance you can?t ignore

Take some time with me
And pretty soon you will see
Everybody move your body
Set your spirit free

Aerobic, aerobic...
Get your body fit
Aerobic, aerobic...
Get your body fit

Everybody gonna hear me now
Gonna go right from the stop
Roll your head from side to side
Front to back and let it flop
Put your hands behind your head
Move your body left to right
Feet apart and standing still
That?s the way to do it right

Take some steps with me
And pretty soon you will see
Everybody move your body
Set your spirit free

Aerobic, aerobic...

Oh how you?re looking so good as you move across the floor
Yeah and it?s doing you good oh, oh, oh
Oh how you?re looking so beautiful darling what is more
Yeah you?re looking so good as you mo-o-ove
Baby baby you look so good to me
Feet together on the floor
Put your arms up in the air
Move your hips from side to side
Everybody everywhere
Bend down touch your toes
Get up but not too quick
Turn around and strike a pose
Then with one leg give a kick

Aerobic, aerobic...

82 was a long time.

How about this.

Give me a HO if you've got your funky bus fare?HO

There's a double dutch bus comin' down the street
Movin pretty fast
So kinda shuffle your feet
Get on the bus and pay your fare
And tell the driver that you're
Goin' to a Double Dutch Affair
Fe Fi Fo Fum
Well I'll be darn here it comes
The Double Dutch Bus is on the street
You'd better get off the curb
Move your feet

Bus fare trans-pass
That's the way my money lasts
Ain't got no car to get around
When I go to work I've gotta go downtown
Now I've missed my train
That's a darn shame
When I'm running late no sleep's to blame
If you've gotta wife you know I'm right
Gotta special man well I can understand
Uptown, downtown everybody's getting down
Say uptown say downtown
Well I've missed my bus I know I'm late
I've gotta do something I knio0w I hate
I'm gonna walk to work fifteen blocks
I already got a hole in my socks
Go ahead and laugh that's okay
Cause what I really wanna say
I got bad feet my corns hurt
To top it off I'm lost for work
Let me tell you what I say
When I'm dealing with the funky sidewalk
Let me show you how to walk
When I gotta do my funky walk
Let me tell you what I say
When I'm dealing with the funky sidewalk
I say sssssssss-sugar

Bip, bomp, bam alakazam
But only when you're grooving
With the Double Dutch Man
Put on your skates don't forget your rope
Cause I know I'm gonna see you
At my Double Dutch Show
Rebecca, Lolita, Veshawn and Dawn
Everytime you do the Double Dutch you really turn it on '
Bilzarbra, Mitzery, Milzetty, Kilsan
Titzommy, Kitzerrance, Kilzommy that's my man
Come on get on my Double Dutch Bus
(The Double Dutch Bus)

Let me hear you say do that
(Do that)
Let me hear you say Do that again
(Do that again)
Let me hear you say do the do
Let me hear you say do the do the do
Do the do, do do do do do

This is the closest I've heard! Who is it and what's the name of the song? I'd have to hear the melody! (there should be something in there "take your time, set your pace keep dancin (a.e.r.o.b.i.c)" ,, in like a computerized voice,, you know how everything back then was trying to sound like Kraftwork).

yeah,, it was in the "double dutch" era! :)

It's called "Aerobic" by Baccara, a female duo from Spain..........based of the different information I've been reading about them, they sound a lot like ABBA.

Interesting.

I was thinking A-U-T-O-matic by either Prince or The Time. Can't recall... Hmmmm.... :shades:

Yeah man. And I mean from the 70's too.

Beracuda
Magic Man (Da sh@t)
Crazy On You
Heartless

Don't get me started on Styx, Boston, and Kansas.
And the 70's Chicago.

That's my all time favorite white movie. That d@m "If I Can't Have You" by Yvonne Elliman was my cut and The Tavares version of "More Than a Woman" brings a tear to my eye almost everytime I here it because it sounds so d@m sincere.

The coolest moment on screen for a white man besides Al Pacino in "Scarface" is when he slides off the floor at the end of his routine at the end of the contest.
