LAS VEGAS — This is not how USA Basketball expected to open its Olympic summer.

Nigeria probably didn’t expect it, either.

If there was any expectation of invincibility for the Americans heading into the Tokyo Olympics, it’s already gone — after Nigeria shocked the U.S. 90-87 on Saturday night.

Nigeria pulled off an international shocker with a roster primarily filled of little-known NBA players that found a way to beat a group of All-NBA, All-Star and max-contract performers.

This new breed of NBA player is soft, even old arse Michael Jordan would not have let this go down like that. This what you get when the participation trophy generation start becoming adults LOL
Jordan played in an Olympic era where NBA players were vastly better than the international competition and it wasn't even close. The current squads are playing against international teams that are far more skilled and advanced than players 30 years ago. Many Olympic teams feature either current or former NBA players. The last three NBA MVPs being foreign-born speaks to just how strong basketball is globally.

Many of those guys on the team just don't have their legs as they would after a normal NBA schedule.

They played 72 games.

Beal, Love, Grant and Levine was not in the playoffs.
The rest most lost in the second round.

Chikezie "KZ" Okpala, Gabriel Vincent , Jordan Nwora, Precious Achiuwa, Azubuike, Monte Morris was in the playoffs
Josh Okogie , Ogugua "OG" Anunob, Al-Farouq Aminuy Chimezie Metu was not.

Azubuike was in the Western Conference Finals. So what practice time did HE have?

Yes that is exhibition but that shows how much everyone else has caught up with the USA-who now wants kids to leave high school to go to basketball academies.

These countries are NOT scared of the USA. At least not the Men...

Sad part is, back in the mid-90s we sent our coaches overseas to conduct clinics and camps. This is where these foreign countries learned how to play. Now, they look like we're supposed to look, and we look like sh*t.

Well you can thank the Spurs and Mavericks for that. Donnie Nelson made going after overseas players an art.

Also you don't AAU teams running around overseas-they have professional leagues.

Yup. How old Luka Doncic is … 22? Been playing against grown men for years before the NBA
