I remember him well . . . and I know what you're referring to . . . but that doesn't apply here. Neither ASU nor A&M has a "Sam Cunningham" that can run all over Alabama and force change in Tuscaloosa the way Cunningham and the USC Trojans did in Legion Field one fall afternoon long ago . . . but its a different day now . . . trust me, Saban WOULD PLAY ASU AND A&M . . . if he saw that it benefited his program . . . either athletically, or politically . . . it probably will NEVER benefit his program athletically . . . but it just might benefit them politically . . . but as I said in a previous post, I'm fine if we never play Bama . . . especially while Saban is there . . . the paycheck isn't worth the pain . . .

You addressed the reference in your comments concerning Sam "The Bam" Cunningham. The key word is "change" Bama playing an HBCU would definitely indicate change. I am not comparing the change, just it will be change. In addition, the remainder of your post is on target.

Nobody on this forum has a definite answer if Bama will play an HBCU or not. These are only opinions.
 



Where was this when the HBCU's had the talent. I would be willing to play ASU and AAMU if I had the talent as well. Would they play if the resources and talent was equal? The same racist that said we need to get us some of them. I don't know why we are so obsessed with them?

Auburn playing Alabma A&M or Alabama State for the first time change what??? Would you say the first time Auburn played an in state HBCU? Something that was forbidden in the past. It's the same for Bama.

Make (someone or something) different; alter or modify.
Replace something with something else. It could be for better of for worse.

I am sorry, but I just don't see how BAMA playing Alabama State or Alabama A&M is gonna change anything. But, maybe you and I are talking about 2 different things.

Saban controls the football program. At one time the same procedure was in place for the Basketball team. Thus, that has changed.

You do realize that's not true, right?

Bryant was never a social conservative that was against Black players or Black progress. Why else do you think Bill Curry, a social liberal, made his list of coaches to replace him (and was later hired after Bryant's successor but ran off by the social conservative bloc of alumni)?

Everything doesn't look like what you think it does...

Well, I pretty much understand and know the history. The reluctance was having to go against the wishes of the Governor, George Wallace, who at the time politically was against blacks. The Coach who replaced Bryant was Coach Perkins, who had the Saban attitude with the media; however, could not make the transition from pro football to college. Perkins was pro black. Got any idea who made frequent visits to Tuscaloosa to see Coach Perkins, Lawrence Taylor. When Taylor was struggling with drugs he made many visit to see his mentor.

Curry was ran off because he was 0-3 vs Auburn. In Tuscaloosa, you have got to beat Auburn. I know a few former players who played for Curry. They all indicated that he was a players coach and good guy.
