Nelly video offends some DC area students


I'm sure others on this board besides myself have emailed, written and called BET concerning their programming. When I first saw Cita's World, I just about lost it.

And even though we wish folk would wake the L up and see what impact their videos are having on our kids...the sad fact is money speaks louder than words. And they've got more money coming in than they ever dreamt and don't want it to stop.

We as parents CAN step up to the plate and control our children's world at home. Block BET/MTV/VH1 and any other channel you don't think is appropriate. But parents let me caution you, it's important that you walk the walk you're talking. Nothing like a kid getting up in the middle of the night and catch you jamming to the Uncut show you forbid them to watch. Messes up your credibility.

It's not my child that worries me for I know how we're controlling that. It's the child that comes in contact w/ my child that I fear/worry about.

"L", my child cannot say J-Z/J-LO/or J-HO... She's never been exposed and we're certainly doing our best to ensure that she's not exposed to that stuff no time soon.lol I don't listen to it either, so...

Someone alluded to the "do as I say and not as I do mentality." That's the most def wrong approach. :tdown: You've got to live it if you're going to recommend it. :tup:

CT...that's what you and other responsible parents do. But the 18-25 yr. old single parent (most likely the mom) is not thinking about blocking a channel. L, she's watching it w/the kids or getting ready to hit the club or on the phone w/ their daddy(ies) while they do.:emlaugh:

I feel you!! But on the other hand...what was causing us to learn about all this stuff at young ages back in the late 70's/early 80's? I knew a whole lot back then and DID a whole lot too...all BEFORE high school...and some before junior high.

Good question. When I was in Jr. High, I overheard two teachers talking & one said, "Every year it gets worse & worse." The other one commented, "There's no home training." Go Figure. I talk w/people daily who haven't a clue as to what they should be teaching their children (i.e. morality, self-esteem, respect, consideration, or accountability) or how to teach/instill it. It's like all they know is - you just exist. No vision, no purpose, no goals. :(
