With all the killin' and rapin' going on in DC, these people are protesting Nelly over a video that's only shown at 3am with the rest of the "uncle Luke" type video's?

Couldn't believe BET was showing that $40 dayumed video ... That was TOO much of a mess ... so I CHANGED THE CHANNELS! Wasn't that dayum hard!

Your're missing the point.
Society as a whole DOES HAVE A RIGHT to decide what is right and decent. Sure, if I personally don't want to watch it, AND I DON'T, then I won't watch it.
Society not only has a RIGHT, it has a RESPONSIBILITY to try as best it can, to root out those things which it determines to have no redeeming value. And about 99% of what is being labeled as "black culture" today, HAS NO REDEEMING VALUE.

If kids see something on TV they will think it's OK.
At one time, I did not get so uptight by some of these raunchy videos. But when I was at a kindergarten talent show, and I saw 4 and 5 year old little girls doing those STRIPPER DANCES. I told one of the instructors after the show that the dances that the little girls were doing were STRIPPER moves. She said but they got it from the videos that were shown on BET.
I told her that the rappers go to these strip clubs and recruit dancers. The strippers get paid peanuts or no pay at all for their services.
I know the majority of those teachers may have never been to a strip club before so they don't know.
Now all of the dancing girls in all of the Black College bands are doing these same STRIPPER moves.
Aritists will do anything to give them an edge in CD sales. It's a monster that was created in the late 50's and it's getting bigger and bigger.

It seems that BET has increased the number of video shows since it was bought out by Viacom. ANd none of them in good taste either. They seem to be trying to find out how "low" they can take us. But then again with a corporate director named LLewellen, they DGAF!
But you're right, change the channel and put a block on BET for your kids if you are offended. Adults should have the freedom to watch, feel and do as they please in their own homes... as long as everybody is of age and consenting.

Where do you draw the line?
If we're not our brothers/sisters keeper, so to speak, then why should we care one way or the other? Why do we participate in activities that help youth or our communities when we're saying on the other hand that we don't care one way or the other if filth or negativity is perpetuated throughout this community of people?
Do stereotypes matter? If you think not, I'd love to see the island that you live on because in <b>this</b> country it's still alive and thriving quite well. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
I would hasten to think what would've transpired if Dr. King or even Brother Malcolm had that same train of thought about "their" race of people or people who <b>needed</b> their help or direction during those tumultous 60s. :shame: Shame on Medgar Evers and others like him who unselfishly looked outside of themselves to help others (in some shape, form, or fashion).
We as a people have really arrived. I don't expect for all of us to be "one" like we used to be back in the day, but I do expect us to know what is right vs what is wrong for people who are <b>directionless</b>. I know @ one point in my life, I was truly directionless and truly uneducated. That's how we're born. For me and my house, BET is permanently banned until I see something positive besides 106 and park.

That's the thing, if we all protest everything on cable that we had issues with there would be nothing left to watch.
BET may not be a premium channel, but the last time I checked cable television was not free(unless you have the hookup or something). Therefore, if you do not wish to watch something you have the option to either a) turn the channel or b)stop having cable altogether. There are countless channels on cable these days, so no one is forcing anyone to watch anything that they do not wish to see.
People need to stop being so damn sensitive. Damn near everything offends someone these days. If something does not appeal to you, don't deal with it.

I understand what you are trying to say but we are talking about ENTERTAINMENT here. No one forces anyone to watch television, go to the movies, listen to the radio, purchase compact discs, etc. Just because it may not appeal to one person doesn't mean that it doesn't appeal to someone else. BET Uncut may not exactly show us in a positive light, but there is an audience out there somewhere that obviously enjoys the program considering that it has been on the air for a couple of years now.
Let's be real, we really do have bigger fish to fry than a video show that comes on in the middle of the night. If Paying Customer A wishes to watch a show that Paying Customer B does not approve of, who exactly is Paying Customer B to stop Paying Customer A from watching or Network X from showing it?

Yeah, we as a people do have "big fish" to fry, such as black-on-black crime, the exploitation of our sisters, AIDS and other issues to name a few. But what you don't realize is that these "big fish" have been feasting on, and fattened up by the very images that are displayed in these videos.
These videos that may seem like harmless entertainment are shaping the thoughts and minds of our young people and influencing their thoughts, thus influencing their actions. The glamourization of guns and violence, showing all black men as thugs and black women as "ho's", the emphasis on material things - are all feeding those "bigger fish" that you alluded to.
These images are also influencing how others perceive us, whether we like it or not.
These images are not just seen in this country, as I have said before, if you wonder why Asians, Hispanics and other ethnic groups come to this country with NO RESPECT for us, then look no further than your local video channel.
