"NOISE TALKA"

Mr. Hatedandloved
I see my boyz SOP83 and nem are tryin not to fill yall in on the haps at the PEPSI - JPS Holiday Tournament. But as I told yall along time ago Lanier is the truth and they proved it oncec again TWO times in one day Monday. lol.

-First up were the Chargers from Callaway High School. (SSOP83's "Dreamteam") LANIER -71 CALLAWAY -56. smh.
-Then LANIER laid the wood to Provine Monday night....

Hats off to the Callaway Girls team though. The Lady Chargers are ranked #10 Nationally and should move up pretty soon.
The Bulldogs haven't heard the last of Provine though....It's gonna be tough everytime they meet.

Second-ranked Bulldogs knock off No. 1 Rams for JPS/Pepsi tourney crown

While it's certainly not as exhilarating as winning a Class 4A state championship, Lanier gained a measure of revenge Monday night against an opponent that broke its heart last March.

In a showdown of Mississippi's top two teams, Dandy Dozen junior guard Monta Ellis scored 24 points as the No. 2 Bulldogs beat No. 1 Provine 60-56 for the 23rd annual Jackson Public Schools/Pepsi Holiday Tournament championship at Jackson State before an estimated 6,500.

Lanier, winning its second straight JPS/Pepsi title and fifth overall, improved to 10-2 and remained unbeaten in Mississippi. Bulldogs coach Thomas Billups' team will start the new year atop The Clarion-Ledger MHSAA boys basketball poll when the new rankings are released Jan. 6.

Provine, which edged Lanier 64-62 in last year's 4A final, dropped to 13-3.

The thing is, these two Division 3-4A powerhouses could meet as many as six times this season as they both chase that elusive gold ball. Monday night was merely Round 1. They also go head-to-head on Jan. 20 and Feb. 10.

"It feels good to win this tournament. It's good to win every ballgame, but we're mostly concerned with getting ready for the state tournament," said Billups, who is shooting for his sixth state title with the Bulldogs. "We haven't played a complete game yet."

Ellis, the tournament MVP, tallied 12 fourth-quarter points and Lanier used a 10-0 run for a 54-45 lead with 1 minute, 17 seconds to play when Sean Johnson got a rebound basket.

Dandy Dozen senior forward Charles Rhodes added 10 points and 15 rebounds for the Bulldogs before fouling out with 4:01 left.

"It's a good win. Everybody was looking forward to this game, and Provine has been talking some noise," said Ellis, who averaged 39.7 points in three tournament games and is scoring at a 33.3-point clip for the season. "Every time we go to play Provine, we're going to play them a little bit better."

Lanier started in a 2-1-2 zone to offset the playmaking skills of Provine's Dandy Dozen senior point guard Charlie White, Mississippi's reigning Mr. Basketball. The Bulldogs returned to their customary man-to-man defense in the second half.

White scored 14 of his game-high 28 points as the Rams built a 29-26 halftime lead after falling behind 12-0. Provine's Derrick Smith, who drained five 3-pointers, ended with 18 points.

"We took shots too quick on offense and our post defense was terrible. We gave up too many second and third shots," Rams coach Luther Riley said. "Give Lanier credit. They're a really good defensive team.

"If we happen to play Lanier a lot more, we have to be ready for the challenge. Lanier is a great team and Coach Billups is a good coach. We have to come ready to play in all phases of the game."

It's all good.....my RAMS will come back on 1/20/04..and I have no doubt that we will meet again at the BIG HOUSE!!

GO RAMS...PROVINE HIGH CLASS OF 1987 (THE BEST CLASS TO WALK THE HALLS OF JOHN W. PROVINE)

:angel2: HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

I wouldn't care if you all were talking about the best high school golf teams in the nation. The bottom line is that nobody outside of MickeySippi gives a damn. Now, take this garbage to the JSU private forum or I'll stop the clock from running.

Than quit comming in.

He!!, you should have been trying to stop the clock at the BC. Maybe then we would not have seen the FAT BACK HAMBURGLER blubbering all over the place.

Trying to catch his breath like a damm 3 year old child.

SMH. Give it a rest. Sports is Sports. No matter what level. This is the sports board last time I checked, so any HS sports news and scores are fair to post. I don't read all the threads on the sports board if it does not interest me. So you should do the same.

BTW, this is not just about JSU. Alot of us on the board follow HS sports from the South and some nationwide, especially from our hometowns and states such as Jackson, MS. All of us Ms natives didn't go to JSU.

yeah, but they don't need to post a different thread everytime there's a game!!!!

That's overkill!!!

Heck, suppose everybody on here thought it was of interest to post every game from their high school.

sheesh, contain this stuff to one thread!!!!!!!

on the same day this post was started, there was already one started that same day about Sippi high school basketball.

:smh::smh:

JR,

You are dealing with the MIGHTY HATER. The hate is so great, he just can't resist trying to cause trouble on any thread concerning this area.

He makes the choice to come into a thread and then complain. Who cares though.

All he has to do is STAY THE HE!! OUT. :goof: :emlaugh: :bawling:

This aint hate and has nothing to do with JSU!
Anybody with an objective mind would see that topic after topic about high school basketball in Mississippi is way too much.

Heck this is the SWAC page and there is one topic for SWAC basketball scores

but we suppose to be inundated with Mississippi high school basketball?
what next, the Mississippi middle schools and the church leagues?

keep this stuff in one topic!!!!!!!

or the JSU private forum
(and yall can just email JR and let him know about the games)
LOL!!!!!

Whatever MH ........................... ................. your opinion is swacpage law. :goof:

ANYWAY........................... Lanier will not slip like they did last year. They honestly thought they couldn't be beat in Mississippi last year. Then Provine popped them in the championship game.

I've said all along that Lanier will take it this year. I felt that when Clark & Thomas transferred to Callaway, it was a blessing in disguise for Lanier. That team would have been over talented with those 2 players. The current Lanier squad best accommodates Coach Billups. (He knew what he was doing when he let Clark & Thomas walk).

Their transfer to Callaway was also better for the city... There's more parity now. A strong Callaway makes for that many more great games in JPS. The Holiday tournament had one of the best semi's in years! That Lanier-Callaway game was great to watch.

Can't wait for Tuesday when they hook back up. I hear it's at Jackson State, too. I just hate that Clark will have to miss the Lanier game again. C'way played Lanier very tough without him last week. A full strength Callaway should give Lanier a better game than Provine.

Too bad all three of those teams are in same division. Who's gonna be the odd man out?

man quit hating hatin hatn....

This cant be healthy.

We were without Bobby Clark, and Charles Thomas fouled out and we still hung tuff! But we will see the out come tomorromw night at JSU when we play Lanier, and Bobby will be back in the line up!

And to those who are crying like little girls about us talking shop on MS high school B-ball. You too should be so lucky to have gone to a school rich with a winning tradition, and just maybe you would be on here too talking smack. So stop hate'n on our school pride.

Someone other than us must feel the same about the talent in MS because on Jan. 19, 2004, JSU will be the host site of the "Battle Of The Boarders". The top three LA. high school teams will play the top three MS teams.

From MS it will be

Callaway
Lanier
Provine

From LA I can only recall one city school, and that's a school from Dennum Springs.

When was the last time a High School player from Alabammie was named as MVP in the McDonalds High School All-Star Game?

And don't give me no crap about that fake MS vs. Ala All-Star game. Because for the last three meetings MS has not sent it's top players for reason or another.

Uhhh.... Charles Rhodes picked up 3 fouls in the 1st qtr, sat until mid 3rd and fouled out in the 4th. So don't give me that.

Bobby isn't supposed to be playing tomorrow. His suspension was for 5 school days and 3 basketball games. The Lanier game tomorrow will be the 3rd game.... unless some strings were pulled.

And where will you be sitting?
