Does this mean we're saved from those obvious Magic Johnson tweets now he gotta try to rebuild the Lakers?

With the help of other financial backers such as the Guggenheim Partners, he's MAGIC. LOL!!! If I was still living in Los Angeles, they would have ran my butt out of town for saying what I just said. No one speaks bad about Magic in Los Angeles. LMAO!!!

In the midst of a rebuild, the Los Angeles Lakers made a move to bolster their asset stockpile Tuesday when they traded Sixth Man of the Year candidate Lou Williams to the Houston Rockets in exchange for Corey Brewer and a first-round pick, according to The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski and Shams Charania.

Williams thanked the Lakers in a post on Twitter shortly after the news broke:

Exactly. Magic is the King of LA sports wise and of course business wise he is well respected. These folks out here will hurt you over Magic. Favorite Laker of all time to the fans.

Most people know Magic is not the brightest person there is, but his popularity in Los Angeles has made him and others a fortune and folks like the Guggenheim Partners have made sure Magic is the face of a lot of their businesses. Now if Magic was smart enough to market his own popularity and brand, he'll be one of the richest Black men in the world.

Magic Johnson snubbed a lot of qualified black GM candidates by choosing Rob Pelinka

Of the eight high-ranking African-American NBA team executives The Undefeated spoke to, none expressed any malicious intent toward Johnson or Pelinka. But they all said they would have at least appreciated an opportunity to interview for the job. All are more than qualified for the position. But many black assistant general managers and other high-level team executives said they have had a hard time getting consideration for any NBA general manager opening.

“We just want to compete. Guys with practical basketball experience, that’s what it’s about. Don’t give me anything. We just want to compete,” one high-ranking black NBA team executive said.

But don’t expect these aspiring black general managers to speak out on this matter either. Why? Fear of getting blackballed.

For example, Newton recently spoke to The Undefeated about why minorities in the league have a hard time getting top jobs.

“Those opportunities are few and far in-between,” said Newton. “It’s very rare for a final decision-maker to feel comfortable that a person not like them is capable of running their team.”

One NBA owner was offended by Newton’s comments and believed such talk wouldn’t help him get back into the league, a source said.

“Nothing surprises me in this business,” one high-ranking black NBA team executive said. “Analytic guys getting jobs. Coaches being named executives. Now it’s the agents’ turn. Everyone except the people who have the practical basketball experience are getting shots.”

Said another high-ranking black NBA team executive: “It’s sad. But we’ve been here before.”

Williams on Tuesday, per Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, and are reportedly attempting to move veteran Nick Young as well in an effort to bolster their rebuild.

On Wednesday, Marc Stein of ESPN.com cited sources saying Los Angeles is looking for a second-round pick in exchange for Young.

This comes after the Lakers announced they named Magic Johnson president of basketball operations the day before. He has a massive rebuild ahead of him considering the 19-39 Lakers are tied with the Phoenix Suns for the most losses in the Western Conference and won a mere 17 games last season.

Don't be surprised if he lands Paul George...

If he does, it's highly unlikely to occur before he hits free agency in 2018 (provided he doesn't sign an extension this summer). The Lakers aren't exactly overflowing in trade assets.

Nah they have trade asset. The question is if it's worth it for this one guy at this time.

What's really intriguing is how this pits Bird and Magic against each other again at the top brass level.

They really don't. They aren't including Russell in a deal. A package centered on Randle (an ok to solid player) or Ingram (struggling mightily as a rookie) isn't getting it done, especially compared to what a team like Boston is offering. This is before you get to the fact that trading for George right now makes no sense for LA considering they're trying to tank to avoid having to send their first round pick in a loaded draft to the Sixers.

Actually nobody is included in any deal as of yet. It's all sports commentator speculation but having said that the only way to get PG now would be to have a package deal with Ingram, Randle, Russell , and Young (for now).

If that were done it's safe to say tanking with what's left over isn't an issue.

That offer would be a 20-second conversation consisting of Larry Bird laughing uncontrollably for 19.9 seconds before he hangs up in Magic's face.

Well it's not as if Larry has much leverage. Boston isn't going full steam into it as of yet because PG has already made it known that he would only sign a long term deal with the Pacers or the Lakers and if Larry wait to long then he won't get anything for him.
