JSU signs former State QB

With the additions and moving some of those other guys to safety. We should be fine. We also got a few highschool DB's that could contend not to mention the kid from south panola and the willie brown kid.

Like someone else said talent will not be the problem this year. :(

I didn't see it so hopefully so if you are correct.

However, I don't mind a 65 yard run. Things happen. What I mind is our defensive sets constantly allowing things like that to happen. We certainly don't lack talent on defense. If not for the wrong set (from what I understand), that run never would have happened. In the games I saw (and from the concerns in our prvt forum) we simply need better defensive coaching to match our impecable talent. Unfortunately, it was not until after the AAMU game that our coaches accepted that fact. We shall see how things go in '07.

I got the coaches review show on my tivo..Iwill try to see if I can post the clip on here. On the play I could understand if it was a coverage run.... but it was a designed qb run just to get a first down. Luke simply got to the sideline and outran JSU's entire secondary.

Woody is okay and I stress OKAY, but our Offensive line coach better man up and Oliver better learn how to hold on to the ball. He now has three guys pushing for his spot.

Three guys that could simply start for any other school in the SWAC.

based on what?

(and using your own "logic", is Miss State "known" for QBs?

:smh::
MS State had/has decent Qbs. Any that could blow the current QBs in the SWAC out of the water (including JSU). You all didnt get to see William Brack 6' 2 200+ Freshman QB last year. And you all may not get to see him much this year with the quality of RBs that we have sitting back there (including USM's transfer).

Dahill,

That play was not designed to get a first down. Y'all had given up on that series. Ready to punt and have your defense get a stop to get the ball back. Damn play just worked better than y'all hoped. I'm still pissed thinking about it.

We aren't the SEC or Big 12, starting in the SWAC at QB isn't rocket science. It's not like we have Vince Youngs and John David Booty's all over the SWAC.
Granted, yes, we have GOOD talent at QB but any SWAC QB can be seriously pushed for their starting job at any time.

I don't know how to respond to this. To me, our offense has no identity. Woody is an efficient OC. He costs us points like any other OC but he could be worse. He knows how he wants his offense to run and he did not care until he got the passing game to work. The problem then is that we ran across some teams with decent QB's and our defensive coaching weakness showed up. No matter how anyone from JSU disagrees, if AlaState had a QB that could hit the side of a barn, they would have beat JSU by 3 TD's last year. We really have to fix that. We can't just rely on the teams having QB's like AlaState that suck.

I don't think Oliver's job is in jeopardy. He is a year ahead of Rutledge and he knows the offense. The battle is going to be in the future between Brack, Rutledge, and the recruit from Florida.

Mississippi State aint had a decent qb since my neighbor and classmate Wayne Madkin played for MSU. If you really want to hear some laughs... let him start talking about the state of Mississippi State football... matter of fact Im going to tell him to come visit us on swacpage next time I talk to him.

well on the coaches review show Jones stated the opposite of what you just said... anytime Luke is told to run to the outside they are going for a first down. If AAMu had given up on the play Pyant would have been told to run up the middle.

And what's he doing for a living?

QB draw on 3rd and 10 or more is a give up. I don't care what coach says. But it was a damn good call for y'all. Wouldn'a worked against nobody else.

JSU won't admit he went there because he had the best chance of competing for a starting slot and Oliver is a senior...please don't think he chose there because of the tradition

I saw thae other QB from Memphis...decent at best from what I saw....
