They had the game won until they started turning the ball over.

I'd like to think we greatly assisted in those turnovers. They didn't happen in a vacuum. We were number one in turnover ratio last season, and we're number one in that catagory thus far this season. It's what we do best on defense.

Excuse me. What did you say? :what:

Ya'll sorely mistaken if u think Valley is one-dimensional. We got a 6'3 240 lb. dimension for ya'll.

P.S. Bruh do u think we haven't seen a 2 deep zone before, but let the corners play 10 yards off the receivers and take chances, ask SU does it work. A. Nelson gonna be don't hit ya'll up for another 300 yard passing game.

Yes, we are following you and you are missing a big point. Bell does not recruit props. With minor exceptions, no freshmen start for Bell. You also have to recall that Bell's first recruiting class only had 8 people because Hughes had given all the scholarships away and the only one of that 8 to play as a freshman (as I recall) was Kennebrew...that makes him the ONLY high school recruit that Bell has that is a Junior. Therefore, most of Bell's recruits are redshirt sopohmores and redshirt freshmen. The players he recuited this year are not playing because they are being redshirted. The only point that you have (but you missed) is that Bell had to recruit some JUCO's to make up for the poor recruiting that Hughes did.

This is very true.

We have good, young talent on the field now. Especially on defense. Anytime you lose something like 7 or 8 starters on a senior-laden defense that ranked 8th in the conference, then lead the league (I know it's early) in defense the following year with a bevy of sophmores, redshirt freshmen, and true freshmen, it says a lot about how you've recruited the last 4 years or so.

Bell's not a good gameday coach. There's never been a debate about that. But the job he's done in building a foundation (discipline, recruiting, etc.) will benefit JSU for years to come. That's regardless of whether or not he survives as coach.

I hope for your sake Totten has the good sense to use him a lot and not go the cute (throw every down) route.

Sorry, but Nelson literally won't have time to throw for 300 yards. That's what ball-control is all about. If JSU wins this game, it will be our offense that makes the difference, not the defense. The question of the night won't whether we can stop your pass, but can you stop our run?

All we needed was some offensive continuity. I think we have that now.

Ya'll do realize that a modest 3-game winning streak would put JSU firmly in the SWAC East driver's seat, right? We are a running team, and our next 2 opponents are teams that have notable issues stopping the run....

You rank 9th in total offense. The reason you rank high on defense is because the teams you've played have no offense. It seems as if you have a problem stopping the run aswell.

yeah really Trill against a guy who joined the team a week before the season started , and self-admittedly didn't know all of the offense. Ya'll gonna see the real "Total Package" saturday afternoon. We run enough to keep the defense on their toes.

P.S. ya'll steadily talking about your ball control offense, but what happens when u get 3rd and long and have to pass with your suspect quarterback? Sounds like a recipe for alot of 3 and outs to me. You also are doing alot of boasting about your defense, tell me so far out of your 3 games, who have u all played with a legit offense?????

Won't argue with you there. I know it's early and yes, we do have our problems stopping certain types of running plays.

All I know is this 9th ranked offense has been in a position to win all 3 games this year. I can live with that. We should be 2-1 right now. (One wide open drop on offense and a missed tackle on defense cost us the Tenn. St. game).

Excuse me. What did you say?

Ummm Northern Tiger - you really are excused - I didnt say that - Tigerpride (TP) is the author of those imfamous comments.

Hampton.

Hampton.....the #1 team Black College Team in the nation with 2 running backs that would run circles around any team in the SWAC.

And answer a question for us, why don't you? If Aries Nelson is the total package, what happened in the Annie Mae game? :shame: Surely his offensive arsenal of weapons was enough against that c**n defense that they run?

But, I'll let you keep on thinking that our secondary is going to allow you to pass all over us!

2005 Stat line: Aries Nelson........17-35, 147 yards, & 3 interceptions!

It honestly excites me to know that many believe JSU has nothing. I like this underdog thing. So do the players.

Ummm still waiting on an answer :)
To specifically address the question, Bell is the problem. He's not good on gameday. He has kept our opponents in the game this year, and ultimately they (Hampton and Tenn. State) made a play to beat us. If he would run practice for the week and be somewhere else on gameday, we' be undefeated.

26-43 318yds. 1 TD 2 INT

D. Haren could only throw for 300 yards on a Playstation 2, and even then he would still suck.

You say Hampton has two good running backs, so basically ur saying that ya'll knew what they were gonna do u you still lost to them?????? hmmmm....

Who's the underdog??? Ya'll the one constantly saying valley is still the same valley, and yada.....yada.....yada...........

Robber, I can appreciate honesty, at least you werent trying to give a company line like some of your other brethren and saying how great Bell is - anyone that follows HBCU football - hell football in general knows that this should be the very last coaching job that idiot ever has.

Quick question....

Why do any of ya'll care about what's happening at JSU anyway? Really? What does it matter to any of you what Bell does or doesn't do?

You ask questions in a non-smack forum. We give logical, non-smack answers, and that still isn't satisfactory. If you're convinced that JSU has nothing and will be nothing, that's your right. But don't continue to ask questions in a serious forum such as this when you've already convinced yourselves of the answer.

Aint nobody smacking JSU, but when your own people put out contradicting statements in this open venue and forum, those statements will come into question. Especially when those statements made highlight what everyone has been saying - everyone that is except those from Lynch Street.

MACHIAVELLI said:

Yep. We could easily be 0-3. That doesn't mean that we're a pushover. Losses are always possible when you play close to the vest and are involved in a lot of close games.

Take JSU's '95 SWAC championship season as a prime example. We started 0-2 that year with close losses to (Div-2) Alabama A&M and Florida A&M. We won nail-biters against Bama State (blocked FG with seconds remaining), SU (well-played, defensive struggle), TxSU (ugly, defensive game) Grambling (ugly, turnover marred game), and UAPB (won in comeback fashion in the waning seconds).

We went 9-2 that year. We were a handful of plays away from 4-7. My point is that close games happen every week and are a part of football. One or two plays in any given game often make the difference between winning and losing. We're 1-2 right now. No excuses. 1-2 (1-0) is not a death sentence.

Cool. I assume you're referring to TP, but where did he make a contridictory statement? TP is one of the few on this board whose point of view has always been consistent. I respect that.

The Mafia is not a monolithic group. There is no company line. We disagree on a lot of things and regularly get into heated debate. If anything, we contradict one another because we are largely independent thinkers. But we all want what's best for the program.

I have no problem with anyone on the board and whatever statements they make but if I am not mistaking - and if I am I do apologize in advance - but TP has been a supporter of Bell but then to say the problems are not the players - these are some of the best players JSU has seen in a while (paraphrasing), its not they system, then if its not either of those 2 things then what is it? It leaves one to think that it is Bell after all - and if that is the case that is a contradiction of what has been stated previously.

Again, if I have read this wrong or am wrong in what I have stated then no problem I apologize - but the statements that have been put out there led me to that conclusion - and that same conclusion was arrived at by Robber also.

I see your point and I can only speculate what TP meant when he said what he said.

From what I remember, TP's platform has always been that recruiting and player development took a major step back under Hughes. He's always maintained that a difference would be seen once Bell's players hit the field. Well, this is the first year that the bulk of his players are seeing action. Like he said, there are only of handful of (true) juniors on the team. The fact that a team comprised mostly of JUCO transfers, sophmores, and freshmen is already showing signs of being better than previous junior and senior-laden squads is a strong indicator that his belief was a valid belief.

He always believed (as well as I) that the neglect the program received under Hughes was our biggest obstacle to overcome. Gameday problems can be solved with a stroke of the pen. It takes real time and effort to overcome off-the-field troubles.
