Jack Yates Lions

is Brenham or La Marque !

I'm not exactly sold on the direction La Marque has gone. LM is playing Pearland Friday so that should be a good matchup. Either way, you can bet on LM making it to the Region 3 finals for the 14th time in 15 years.

Ok, I'd have to disagree. Yates is one dimensional and plenty of teams can challenge them. I don't expect Yates to advance past the 2nd round.

I don't think they are one dimensional, they are more traditional. With Mc Kinney in place we are beginnig to see the offense thanwhat Mc Gowen had in place. Yes, the Lions play some good hard nose football. The defense is consistent. They play smash mouth and in your face football. Yates has made the playoffs for the 30 years consecutively. What other High School in Houston has done the same. with maybe the exception of Lamar?

Aldine ain't what it use to be either. But I agree, lack of good coaching and community support is why HISD schools don't thrive on the football field.

Now you in my territory!!! :lecture:

I graduated from Aldine in 1990 and my senior year, we lost to Odessa Permian Panthers (from the movie Friday Night Lights) in the state championship game and the very next year (my freshmen year at Texas Southern) they made it back to the state championship game against Arlington Lamar and won! The Mustangs also won the Sports Illustrated and Gatorade national championship.

FYI:

Permian didn't play in the 1988 state championship game like the movie portrayed them to. It was actually Converse Judson losing to Dallas Carter 31-14.

Yates is not one dimensional. The Q/B Stacy Williams lead the freshman team to a very good record. The problem is Orie Lemon was ahead of him. Stacy has played (started at wide receiver since his sophmore year). Coach mckinney is slowly incorporating him into his system. It does not matter what you do in the early part of the season it matters what you do in the end of the season. By the way Demetrius Woods went to Ryan. Yates primary feeder school.

Ok, I was just basing my judgement on what I saw. You are right though. But I don't think JY will be much of a factor in playoffs unless they get that passing game together. They should easily win district but that first round playoff match likely against Worthing, Sterling, or Wheatley won't be easy.
