The Lions are trying to reclaim there old glory. Two victories against 5a opponents.

I remember telling a certain youngster on this board that classification are sometimes misleading.

If a certain HISD official had not stopped a transfer from coming in Yates might have won the state. The ironic things is that players are recruited right out of Yates back yard everyday, however when the shoe was put on the other foot, all of a sudden it was a problem.

What do you think about Sterling beating Beaumont Central Friday 40-34. Those boy's are 1-2 but the losses came to 3-0 Dickinson 34-30 & 1-1 area ranked Silsbee 52-32. Sterling is avg 35 points per game on offense.

But Yeah, Yates is doing it big.

Didnt Yates get blown out by El Campo?

Sorry...I don't think Yates will get very far in 4a Region 3. What is their enrollment as it relates to D1/ D2 ?

I am very happy for Sterling, Sterling Coach and I are very good friends. We played together on some very good intramural basketball teams back in the day.

El Campo is a good team. Yates first game with a Q/B who had not been under center in real game conditions in 3 years.

Believe me when I tell you this season could be the start of something big.
Players are starting to stay home and play in the TRE.

Yates m.o. as of late, is they get stronger as the season progresses.

Beating Willowridge and Madison is still good for the players spirits. Probably will make it to the second or third round as they have in the last two years.

Man, did you see some of those calls that the refs made.
No they didnt get blown by El Campo, they were outcoached! Both teams are balanced the same however, there was huge edge given to El Campo for their special teams. I would love to see the same to schools play in the playoff. I think it's hard for any city team to go to El Campo and win. Case in point

Lamar High School Division I 5A - lost to El Campo 4 A in 2004 at El Campo. However, El Campo lost at Delmar Stadium in 2005.

The only teams besides El Campo, I think can challenge Yates in 4a this year

is Brenham or La Marque !

Hmmm. interesting! That position wouldn't be a certain QB would it? I'm a Yates teacher and I am proud of our young men.

That's great. We have a lot of evacuees here. Glad you're reaching out.

Willowridge is a 5A school with 4A numbers so technically you didn't really beat a 5A............plus that coach insists on running a triple option offense but the school 2 miles away is airing the ball out and winning games.

I doubt Yates could hang with the upper echelon of 4A...hoUSTON HIGH SCHOOL BALL IS WATERED DOWN

If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, than I assume its a duck. regardless of what you think they are 5A, you sound as if you may be a little upset at the fact YATES is doing okay this year?

lets be real......Yates beats up on a HISD team (Madison ) and beats a Willowridge team whose best days are behind them (the band still is light years ahead) and there's a thread dedicated about them?

Suburnization has watered Yates down and even the old suburbs are watered down......2 rounds and out for JY

Don't you have some season tickets to push around the local barbershops in Ruston and Monroe? :emlaugh:

If Willowridge would have won, it would be a completely different story.
Yates has beat some pretty good school out of the surburbs the last two years. Underfunded inner city school that is trying is doing a decent job of competing.

Yes to the Scribe. The QB threw for 1800 yards last year. He is currently amount the top 10 in five a this year.

They are doing a good job of sending kids to college on academic scholarships as well.

Props to Yates in making a comeback of sorts. Wish Kimball and Carter would experience the same. However, it should be noted that Kimball is now 4-A, so... :read:

The better brand of football is played around the d/fw metroplex, unfortunately. I thought they were sort of weak around here but as time goes on, the districts (schools) here play really great football. :)

The 5A, 4A, and 3A champions will come from the metroplex (Garland HS, Southlake Carroll, Highland Park, and Celina). :)

Carter is the premiere black football program in Texas...they beat Plano and John Tyler so far this season. They would be top 5 in Houston easily....

Ridge ball is bad period....if they won great but our best days are behind them. WE are a title 1 school who missed some math scored by 1 point and now kids can transfer anywhere as a result.

The talent level in HISD is not watered down! I remember a similar thread a few years back! The best talent comes outta HISD in the Houston Metroplex year end and year out! Dumb coaching is what's the problem with the Yates, Madison and Lamar. Willowridge has great talent as well. Although, they compete on the Fort Bend ISD level which is truly watered down among the schools within the district and proximity. But, when you have 9 defensive and 8 offensive holdovers back you should play better ball.

HISD has produced great players who now play on every Sunday; baby:nod2: ! The hidden district in Houston is Aldine. Which as a four school district has kept them from watering down the talent.

Aldine ain't what it use to be either. But I agree, lack of good coaching and community support is why HISD schools don't thrive on the football field.
