Is Boise State Getting Cold Feet

Big East basketball probably makes as much money as football in that conference.

I don't know how true that is now with Pitt and Syracuse gone. UConn is destined for the ACC as soon as we can can figure out what to do with that 16th spot.

Since the Big East looks not to be an AQ conference, I don't see what Boise State would really have to gain. I vaguely remember this to be a football only move but could be wrong........

You are right. Boise and San Diego State will be football only members.

Boise would be better off staying in the MWC and going undefeated and hope for one of those top four spots in the BCS playoffs.

I don't know about that. The Mt. West was denied BCS status.

I think the top 4 teams should go. If the SEC has the top 4 teams, all four should go.

Yep.
You got 12 weeks and a conference championship to get into the top 4. lose a game early or mid season, you still got a chance to work your way back up the poll. If you #1 or #2, chances are 1 loss at the end won't drop you out of the top 4 and you still in at 11-1. After all that time, the top 4 ranked teams on the BCS poll should get the nod since they have a playoff now no matter who they are.

I doubt it will ever be 4 SEC teams. Last year, I think Stanford and OK State would have been the other two teams.

This college football playoff is for the SEC, B1G, Pac-12, the Big 12 and Notre Dame. Everyone has to pretty much fend for themselves. Nothing really has changed except it now officially eliminates the Boise States of the world. Additionally, some non-AQ schools will have to determine if they a want to go the independent route or move to the FCS.

What's ironic about all of this is I think Coward from Tulane is the chair of the committee that came up with this format. If you remember, he was posturing about suing the NCAA for disenfranchisement using violation of anti trust laws as his substantiation.....

What many people don't see is that this is just the beginning. The playoffs in 1-A are about to be a reality. They will start with 4, then go to 6, then go to 8, etc... I really don't like the idea of it. The BCS was fine with me. I just have a problem with there being so many bowl games. The BCS should have been used to determine ALL bowl games. Being 6-6 should not be enough to get you into a bowl game. If Arkansas goes 6-6, how is that the same as Troy going 6-6? What difference does it make if you won 6 games? Only the best should be considered and power rankings is the best way to do it.

So you would take #4 Stanford over #5 Oregon even though Oregon not only beat Stanford head-to-head, but also won their division and conference title?

Remember, I did not make up the poll. :emlaugh: But to entertain your comment, you can't make an assessment based on your example. There are others that will say that Oregon loss to USC and Stanford beat them (I saw both of those games).

And also remember, Oregon only lost 2 games because they had the $%**s to schedule No.1 LSU at the beginning of the season. I think they would have had the SOS edge on Stanford.

But you see how the playoff ( in it's first form) still isn't going to stop all of the whining. You either tick off the Stanford or Oregon fans.

I will agree with you about that but here is the deal. Oregon does what they suppose to and beat USC and they finish in the top 4. Was their a poll bias? In my opinion pollsters wanted to elevate the Stanford QB, so it is a possibility.

The polls won't matter that much anyway in this 4 vs. 5 argument, because the "selection committee" will get to pick the top 4 teams. I am sure that is one discussion they will have.

Yes, I am aware of the selection committee. The question is will they make their rankings transparent on a weekly basis similar to the BCS polls so no extreme bias and subjectivity doesn't manifest itself......Things are a little hazy regarding this process. The other thing is how will they make this committee balance so there will not be any regional bias.

They have 2 years to work all of that out.

There always is going to be bias and lack of objectivity when it comes to this process no matter who is placed on the committee.

Going to be interesting to see how Boise State is going to overcome the SOS issue. They are going to pretty much have to use 3 or 4 OOC games to play BCS conference teams. One loss and it is over.

That is why 4 teams still won't work. They have opened up a Pandora's box. This thing will have to expand. :smh:

The new format pretty much eliminates Boise State or teams from C-USA or any other conference. The committee won't have to worry about them again. We know right from the start that the champions of the major conferences (SEC, Pac 12, Big 12 and Big Ten) will take those spots unless there are years where those conference are down across the board.

It could be argued that it would be harder for Boise State to play for the national championship come 2014 than under the current BCS system because more power conference champions will be in the mix.
