Boise State risks missing deadline

Boise State has yet to withdraw from the Mountain West Conference and faces a Saturday deadline to do so without having to pay additional financial penalties should it go ahead with its move to the Big East.

As it stands, Boise State must forfeit $2.5 million in future revenue if it gives one year's notice of its withdrawal to the Mountain West by Saturday.

If Boise State formally withdraws after June 30, that financial penalty grows to at least $7.5 million.

With West Virginia bolting for the Big 12 and Pittsburgh and Syracuse moving to the ACC, the Big East is pretty much the same as the Mountain West in terms of strength in football.

The monumental disparity in basketball is a big consideration. And I don't think the Big East has lost it's BCS status yet. That may be what their waiting on. To see what's gonna happen with the playoffs/BCS.
 



Oh no, the writing is on the wall. The Big East is pretty much the Conference USA pt. 2 in football. They will still be a major player in basketball, but football is going to be a mid-major conference.

The Bcs will end in two years anyway according to the new playoff scenario.
 
Boise State would be crazy to leave the MWC to join the BIG East. There is no way the Big East will be included in the new play-off system. From what I heard on a talk show earlier is that if they leave for football they need to find a conference for thier other sports as well. I don't think thier budget or student athletes can manage that from that distance. Its time to realize who they really are and enjoy the success they have achieved.

The BCS isn't over. It's just expanded to add two additional schools. The same groups of schools and conferences will be competing for the national championship no matter what.
 
I thought Boise was hesitate due to the uncertainty of where their other sports would fall due to the potential meltdown of the WAC? Football was only going to the Big East, not the other sports. They were shipping them off to the WAC. I don't blame Boise for rethinking this situation. The WAC is a sinking ship. However, this may cause San Diego State to rethink their decision, because they were looking to Boise as a travel partner in football.
 
Even with the Big East getting weaker, the Big East STILL has something the MWC doesn't have...A BCS automatic tie-in. Until that is taken away (and it won't be if Boise joins), the Big East makes more $en$e.
 
With the playoff coming in 2014, that BCS tie-in won't really mean much. If they win the Big East and don't finish in the Top 4, they would be in the same position they were in while being in the MWC. They could get in the Top 4 even while staying in the MWC.

With the teams that conference has left, I can't see them keeping that for long. Once Pittsburgh and Syracuse bolt for the Big East, they won't have any big name programs left.

But who would the MWC have left to take it from the Big East? If Boise leaves, the MWC is extremely weaker. Wyoming would be the best team in the conference.

Thats the major difference in joining the Big East over Con-USA. Basketball will take up the financial slack.
 
When this playoff comes if you arent in the Big 10, Big 12, SEC or Pac 10 you aint playing for a national championship anyway. The winners of those conference will play in the BCS "playoff" every year. Why do you think Clemson and Florida State trying to bolt the ACC? Also look for Notre Dame to join a conference. They cant win a national championship without being a conference champ.

Notre Dame is automatically in if they are ranked in the top 4. Their schedule will be toug enough to get them in if they win.
 



Notre Dame is a power conference of ONE!!!!
They don't need expansion. Love them or hate them, those SOB's got some major power. :lmao:

I been listening to sports radio all last week and this week... The committee is going to write it out stating to be eligible for the "playoff" you must be a conference champion. Many Notre Dame fans were calling in... even stating that they need to join a conference to be eligible for the national championship. If they dont ... they can win all they want to but still not have a chance at a national championship.

But you got to remember.
The NCAA IS NOT going to leave ND football out of the mix just like they didn't leave them out of the BCS. That is why they wrote the BCS as basically all the conferences PLUS ND and said if ND is ranked at a certain spot at the end of the day, they will be included. The people in charge of comming up with this playoff format is not going to send it to the Presidentual committee without a provision for ND. If ND is not in as a independent, I'll gurantee you the Presidents will kill the entire deal. And ND President is on the committee with all the other appointed conference President reps.

I just can't see any senerio possible that the NCAA, the Networks, or the BCS would cut a Notre Dame team ranked in the top 4 out of playoff contention. I'll even say if they ranked #5, somebody in the top 4 is gonna get screwed because ND will be in.

BCS didnt have nothing to do with conference champions though..... they came up with this conference champions thing so a conference couldnt get two teams in the "playoff"...

I know and glad they did it.
But I still don't see them not making an exception for ND. Money talks and a Notre Dame team in a 4 team playoff would be like the NCAA having a collective orgasim "money wise." They been waiting for ND to get back in the national title mix for over a decade now.

They know ND is too proud to join a conference in football so they gonna have to do something. :noidea:

Why you think the ACC can't get a top 4 team? Florida State and Miami are still darlings of the NCAA in football. VaTech is going to stay on top. I will admit that the ACC has an identity crisis in not knowing if we want to be a bball league or a football league. Other conferences don't really have that challenge but if you think for one second that year in and year out, we will not be in the that playoff system, you are crazy. They will move to a 6-team playoff if we get left out every year.

I think the top 4 teams should go. If the SEC has the top 4 teams, all four should go. :lol:
