Insturment Sexuallity

The only reason I am telling him to shut his trap is because, it seems like he is just whining. Everyone gets picked on as a crab. My crab bro. was picked on a lot. RIP toast. But all he did was use it as fuel to move on. I understand you may feel people look at male woodwinds in a funny way, but it is all about how you carried yourself. When I was a crab @ SU there was a dude (forgot his name) who was cold on the picolo, no one ever said anything about him. Like my old grandpappy always said "son you can't do nuttin but call them like you see them" So if it looks like a rainbow child, acts like a rainbow child, then it just might be a rainbow child.

You talking about Dominic

Okay.....What the hell does gender or a persons frame big or small have to do with instruments? From what I understand that they were all man made anyway and I'm sure they weren't meant for certain genders or sizes. Its alot of other ish out to determine someones sexuality, and who cares? Thats people who are unsure of themselves. :lecture:

Well now I understand, but your first post didn't elaborate all of the above. It just said 'Shut Up!' So I was left to form my own analysis of the meaning behind it.

I agree with you that you should be secure with yourself and use others remarks as fuel. ;)

About sizes...I am beginning to wonder. I have polled my BD friends in the area on this point and we have come to at least one conclusion: size seems to make a difference with saxophones. When asked about it, shorter bodies seem to be characteristic of exceptional alto players and taller bodies of exceptional tenor players.

And, of course, players with short arms avoid trombone for obvious reasons.

Anyway, guys who play clarinet and flute are typically surrounded by women. Seems like a fun place to be.

Naw boo it's not like that yadig. Though I have known some t-bone players who were dykes. But the number of homosexual males that play clarinet and flute is greater than the number of homosexual females that play a brass instrument. I guess you could say it is a double standard.

No disrespect to GSU, fans and alumni but GSU should be grateful to get whoever they can because apart form field shows THEY JUST AIN'T WHAT THEY USED 2 B!!!
We got high school bands in the N.O. that can GIVE THEM THE BUSINESS!!! Sound quality/Dynamics-wise and d*mn-sure volume and numbers-wise. I can name at least 5.
Of course numbers and volume means nuthin' if you don't know how to use it but for the past 7 years I recall GSU gettin' their azz handed to them by the "U" and da' "Boom". Say bruh, they should be grateful to have proficient musicians regardless of their inst"UR"ment!!!!LOL

ALSO on a more serious note,

This I will tell you though: I am a working musician of 4 inSTRUments being B-tone, PIANO/RHODES, Upright-Acoustic Bass and VIBES. As musicians of any instrument, we need to carry ourselves in a certain way because a lot of people on the outside already have a negative outlook on musicians.

Apart from HBCU, they don't always take the art serious because of the images WE create as musicians. Wether it be HBCU musicians, church musicians or pro touring musicians, we need to take it serious and represent it right!!!

Could you elaborate on this a little further for me please.

you are exempt vette!!!!

It really is a big issue that shouldn't even be an issue because I feel that people can play any instrument regardless of what it is. Frat just needs to chill and let this thread die. Someone shut this down please!!

i agree frat...time to shut the thread down...i appreciate your feedback people...but this is not meant to start talking down on GRAM...i just got heated...if you knew me you would understand...ALL HAIL!!!

Good luck at band camp to all my frat in GSU BAND!!!!

man, ya'll should know not to air ya'lls dirty laundry on the swacpage, this will open a lot of oppurtunities for haters to jump in....

now to DOWN LOW brother, don't get mad at them for making fun of you if you twist and pop your lips, people will assume that you are are gay, they don't assume you are gay because you play piccolo or flute. my greatest inspiration in the world Sylvester LeBlanc, his son used to be a Bass drummer at southern 83-87, this cat used to blow thru the flute and talk at the same time and you could hear exactly what he said...now that's cold.....and gay and Mr. Leblanc could not be in the same town.

but if you act gay people will assume that's what you are....

Tell me why the hell everyone says that someone who plays a flute or clarinet in band that is a guy has to be gay?? that shat is messed up...im just wondering cuz i played piccolo in grambling band...and  ....people just talked mad shat about me even though no one in grambling and could even compare to my playing whats up with that shat??? :splat:

thats just ignorance at its best. people forget that back in the day before they allowed women to perform in performing ensembles (baroque, classical and romantic periods), it was men and only men playing those instruments. do u think such stereotypes existed back then? NO! because back then when people made instruments, they were making them for whatever man could play them, not for homosexuals only!!! and just like they were made for anyone who could play them at that time, they are still made for anyone who can play them now!!! like i said, some people need to grow up.

alright first off its like this yeah i act feminine...so....i wasnt even talking about that...i was asking why is it assumed that if u play those intruments u r less of a man....Just because i was once a part of the Grambling state university band...does not give u the right to come on here and try to bash me...dont come on here calling me BRUH if u aint in my frat either...it was a simple question that just required an opinion...stop being ignorant...you are supposed...SUPPOSED to be representing a band that USED to be known as one of the best and by talking to people the way you do, you wonder why you get no respect...now you can go and take this post and print it out and go take it down to the basement and give it to doc to he can read it front the band so they can laugh but yall making an arse out of yall selves...i never understood why people hated grambling so much..but no i do...you act like yall just the toughest baddest stuff that walked the earth...the best band in all the land...NOT!!...man i went to gram..played in the band...and i thought SU was better than us...people couldnt march...people never had music memorized...yall are resting on others shoulders...you aren't world famed anymore..you are just Grambling Tiger Band...the only Great musicians that u have are the ones that don't want to be in your band...don't try to talk mess about me cuz even when i was at grambling i tried my hardest to respect people..but u have to give respect to get it..and even though i was a crab...no one could out do me at what i did...so yeah now i have my own marching band to teach...im going to college in my home state and town...a better school...may not be an HBCU..and ima miss my BRUHS and the lovely ladies of SAI...but ill see yall at the classic and i hope SOUTHERN blows a MUD HOLE IN THAT ARSE!!! Walking around like yall sh%^ don't stink...all the people in your band wont matter...cuz the bigger grambling band gets the bigger the other bands will get..and the louder Southern will play...I LOVE GRAMBLING STATE UNIVERSITY...BUT I HATE THE BAND!!!!

ok i was on your side til i read this. u know if u act feminine, no matter what u play, people are gonna draw their own conclusions on their own, whether they are accurate or not. if u dont want others to think u are gay, then dont act feminine. i am sorry, but when i see a person acting feminine, unless i know him well, i am just gonna assume he is gay. and thats how the rest of the world thinks. acting feminine is basically acting gay, whether u are or not. go do some dayum push-ups or something! then on top on top of that u go to grambling. smh
