"In this college sports rivalry, the bands are instrumental"

As long as there is a desire to be the best at anything, then the attitude and the ego will always be there to go along with that desire.

Look at the name "Battle of the bands".

The name itself encourages some competition of the sort, and in a competition, there must be a winner and a loser......despite how well the parties may have performed.

Just thought I'd add my two cents.

I'm starting to get a headache.

Yet, another point of view but,.... how can you really determine the winner of a battle of the bands when the styles of the bands are different? Besides the criteria required of a university marching band (Playing a march while doing a drill and other features of detailed musical entertainment),....I can't see how a true winner is absolute unless your show is just crap. This is not like those bands in DCI. DCI have judges with expertise in that field. Here,....the fans gives their approval or disapproval. Then we get on here and go backwards and forwards until our fingertips turn blue.

My second headache concerning this matter is the fact that some band members are not realistic and take constructive criticism too personal. We don't respect the opinions of other participants nor our peers if they are not in agreement with our own. There's nothing wrong with smack. As you can tell by now,...I love talking trash but, there is a limit as to how far I will go. Some of us don't know when to quit. This is not crab bowl. This is a forum where Black College Band Members as well as fans can come together and communicate, share thoughts and ideals while keeping school rivalries exciting. I wish that we would keep in mind that we are all we got so,...we have got to stick together. I don't know none of you all personally so,......why get all bent out of shape to the point of wanting to hook up and settling the matter like a bunch of thugs? I'm pretty sure this was not the main objective involved with school rivalry and trash talking. It's not personal,....It's about school pride.
Competition?....Fine! but,...there should be a certain level of respect and conduct as well.

This game has been over two weeks and we still talking about it.

Honestly, I wonder the outcome of this thread had her opinion been the other way around??

Nevermind, it would proably be the same way.

LOL Roady...You already know...It doesn't matter what the opinion is...Someone on here is gonna have something to say. How many times have we seen this now?

I just watched the tape of the game amd I must say it must have been a hype atmosphere to be there that night.

There were plenty of sectional battles and that's as far as I'm going.

Hats off to both bands.

Not on this thread. I was refering to other threads on this board I have read in the past where the language started gettin' personal.

true that. but remember to take a thread out of context and make it personal is a personal decision all in it's own so if you don't take it too personal it won't be. but if what is said is true and it hit home don't get mad at us for yanking a skeleton out of your closet.............fix it..

I wasn't refering to me at all. None of this bothers me. I was refering to that N.C. A&T and S.U. Thread.

I don't argue over opinions. I have stated THOUSANDS of times that EVERYONE LOOKS FOR DIFFERENT THINGS IN BAND. You are the ones trying to jump down my back for MY OPINION!!!! Hypocrites and Sheep!!!!!

Like I stated in my FIRST post on this thread, I don't necessarily fully agree with the author's opinion, but it's their opinion. For every person that says they liked Grambling, I could find one that said they liked PV. Big freaking deal. All I said was that a couple of FACTS from the article were slightly incorrect, and that they had nothing to do with the author's opinion in the article.

Can you all read???? Coach, you must be buddies with Mach.....

Fact: PV put's there horns on the ground, and dance ( who can't dance with out a horn)
Grambling dance and plays at the same time.

Fact: PV stands still and plays a song or two. Grambling does not, always moveing.

Just a couple of things to look out for, while you get your opinion together.
Fact: a Marching Band/Show Band is always moving, plays a march, ballad, just to name a few things.

fact: ya'll sound is weak and choppy
fact: ya'll look sloppy
fact:trying to do too much is self defeating

Fact: Grambling plays the intro to every song they dance to.

Fact: PV plays a horn dance before they even think about putting horns down.

Honestly, Grambling's dance routines don't change much at all from year to year. They just change the music they put to it. It doesn't take much to spell 24's while you play it. It's effective, but don't act like Grambling's way is a marching band standard. The march you played wasn't even played all that great from where I was. But different strokes for different folks.

Fact: People have become comterble with Grambling still, so yes it should always be push with some new things, but things have been coming around.

Fact: PV still is nice...... but when you see PV, one says to march with a strong drive then to loose some of it at the dance, one fells let down.

In this college sports rivalry, the bands are instrumental
By Monica Anderson
Special to the Star-Telegram

Prairie View came out first. The five drum majors did back bends while the cymbal players did somersaults. The crowd went wild. The band played a couple of the latest hits while some young ladies in gold danced and did the splits, I think. I didn't have my glasses on, but they did the splits or they all collapsed from exhaustion at the same time. At one point, the band members put their instruments on the ground and danced. I got so excited that I jumped up and started shaking my groove thing until my boys pulled me down and reminded me that we were on Grambling's side of the stadium.

Man I move to da Lou and look what happen. DM's doin backbends now...no horn dance before the horns get put down. I thought there were six DM's this year....did that change after the LDC?

In all honesty once I read these statements I took the article to be more in fun than any type of real critique and payed no attention to the outcome as the person probably remembers the last thing they saw more than anything else and just decided to go with that for the article.

Thanx Blaque.....You said basically what I was saying from the beginning. There were some inaccuracies in the facts, but overall I enjoyed the article. It was meant for fun and that's the way it was taken.

Some people overlook details like that (coughcoughlikethefactthattheauthorwassittingongramblingssidecough) but I don't. :D

Anywho it was a nice article to promote our bands.

What difference does that make? Pathetic View just don't get it. You keep saying it was the authors opinion but you still are trying to find ways to spin the article. :lmao: The author COULD have been in the pressbox, which is located on the homeside, in which Grambling was the home team. The author COULDhave been sitting in the endzone. Does it make the author more credible if she was. You guys are just hungry for attention.

OMG :lmao: no I think you Bumbling cats don't get it. No one ever tried to spin the article....sphis pointed out that there were some mistated things and I know why he did because they were very uncharacteristic of PV.....I have never seen a PV DM do a backbend in a show...showing that the author was basicaly pulling common aspects of HBCU halftime shows together rather than accurately depicting the halftime. And after reading that I wouldn't trust the critique of either band no matter who they gave the win to. I think thats all sphis was trying to say in the first place.

I just tossed the last part in about which side of the field they sat on for fun but I see you should not joke with a band that has sucked for the better part of a decade when the sun has finaly began to shine on the dog's arse.

how do you take a person serious that calls himself the mack of the swac. he probably don't have one ho. but that is neither here nor there, did he say pathetic view:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: , that is toooooo funny, how pathetic is grumbling to get dug into every year by pathetic view, that must means that they are just pitiful, especially that tired azz drum section that would have problems with a weak high school in houston or louisiana......

Thanx Blaque. Some folks want me to try to spin stuff so bad. SMH....

Inaccurate - PV's 5 drum majors did a backbend....

Fact - PV has 6 drum majors and don't do anything remotely close to a backbend before, during, or after the show.

As Blaque stated, after I read that, I really just took the article in the spirit it was intended.......in fun. Had it been written the other way around, I wonder what some of you would have to say.

Some of you need to let it go....

Teddy P., send help!!! :(
