If you're waiting for the SWAC to leave Birmingham . . .

Calm down....:)

I read and have been reading and the post keep repeating themselves.

Nobody is blaming the city of B'ham. But, since that is where the SWAC office is located, you would think that the powers that be would have a better business sense when it comes to promoting the city. It would be the same situation if the office was in Shreveport, Jackson, etc and the promotion was lackluster.

We(SWAC schools) need to step up our game on promoting this conference. Otherwise, it is and will remain a step behind the rest..:wavey:

SLT, he STILL dont understand. In all that you wrote, all he see is:

"Nobody is (blah, blah, blah Birmingham sucks, blah, blah, blah) since that is where the (blah, blah blah, get the SHQ out of Birmingham, blah, blah, blah) promoting the city. It would be (blah, blah, blah, Birmingham is the problem, blah, blah, blah) lackluster."

3 Reasons to move it to the Superdome.

#1 It is to cold and alot of people just ain't comming out if the weather is crazy.

#2 People like to travel and enjoy the bowl game experience , Bham has nothing really to offer.

#3 New Orleans could use the money it could be the SWAC's way to help improve the economy down there.

Alum,

You just won't admit that you got in a huff for no reason, this time, huh??? Is it pride??? Bengal E asked a question and you called it "silly". Nobody did that but you.

Until we get major sponsorships, the SCG will continue to be just another game. This may "sound" crazy, but these major conferences don't play these championship games to determine a conference champs. They can do that during the regular season. They play these games to make millions of dollars. The conference champion is just secondary. 12 schools can't get rich off just ticket sales. But they can with the multi-million dollar sponsorships and TV deals. They trying to, and succeeding at it, make money.

Robber compared to 10 years ago is it not true that the SWAC Office does have sponsors and is producing more revenue than when Dr. Franks was the commissioner. SWAC Fans are only going to attend certain games because they are set in their ways.

Just one question ..... What would be wrong with TRYING the game in another city? No one is blaming B'Ham for the state of the game, but damn, we can't continue to walk into a closed door. We keep trotting out the same thing every year and wonder why we continue to get the same result.

Leave the office where it is ...... who gives a damn! They can be stupid in Alabama, Texas, Alaska or Maine for all I care.

But, for seven years now, we have tried to push this game in B'Ham and it hasn't worked for whatever reason. .... If it's losing there, and no one believes moving it would change it, then at least change for the players, who get the real benefit fromt the game.

But MD, the SWAC should be doing better than when Franks was commish. I mean that is ancient history. Most conferences are doing better than 10-15 years ago. That doesn't impress me.

We need MAJOR sponsors like Nike, Addidas, Reebok, Coke, Pepsi, American Express........hell Home Depot........Wal-Mart.........Target. We need big time players with big time money who also can bring some big time clout. Do you know if the SWAC office even contacts these big corporations. I know State Farm is onboard.....but we need more. We also need some marketing folks that know what they are doing to help draw interest from all over to come to this game. In our case we are going to have to make the SCG draw like a Classic game no matter who plays in it like the Circle City Classic does, cause you know how us black folk are.........we aint going to just see a game...heaven forbid that. SMH.

It is clear the SWAC Championship events have an economic impact for Birmingham and the deal with the city seems hard to top. But what remains unclear to me is how much of an economic impact does the game have for the SWAC schools and where is the money going? If we are getting everything free, this game, regardless of sponsorship, should generate a big profit for the SWAC. So why hasn't that translated to increased athletic budgets. And some people here keep talking about SWAC fans don't support certain games...that true for most conferences. I will bet that the fans that showed up for the Conference USA Championship Game this year were from Southern Miss or Houston.

most of our athletic budgets are running deficits and what this game generates won't help increase 10 athletic budgets.

uh....the conference usa title game was played in the comforts of the school with the better record so a fanbase would built in..Houston had the better record and the fans showed up to fill the 30,000 seat stadium.....

that concept I like but only problem is lets say PV or TSU wins that right and we have major stadium issues.

TBF, if that happened, maybe PV or TxSU could secure one of the stadiums in Houston for the one game. You have Rice, UH, and Reliant to ask. I mean how likely for any of those stadiums to be used on the second weekend of Dec? Well outside of Reliant. UH and Rice would be done for the regular season by then.

BTW,
Conference USA better figure something out because they are dying a slow death as well.

Rice is in the playoff hosting business now..the new coach made it known he wants games back in that renovated stadium. They won't foresake a triple header in the stadium for the possibility of a SWAC title game.

unless one of our teams were head hunters and predicted to win....it would be hard to reserve a stadium in town that the other colleges play at. With the expanded playoff system now and games every weekend not many stadiums would want to risk losing 2 to 3 playoff games for a game that might not happen

This thread is funny, because you got folks that don't know about what's going on believing in other folks rants who don't know isht about what's going on either. I would say this is like the blind leading the blind, but y'all choose not to see.

The overall tone in here is that the SCG is failing, but nobody can show any proof that this is the case. We are the only I-AA conference that makes money (collectively) in the postseason, but we are doing bad. We've got sponsors (good ones at that), and free use of the facilities. JR, for all those major sponsors you listed, how many of them even sign on for the Bayou Classic?

If you're gonna make an arguement at least have an argument. If you're not talking dollars then you're not making cent$. Facts and figures people, come on.

I see Coke, I see State Farm, I see Southwest, I see Coors Light....:whatever:

Mr. Tiger,
I think we may be looking at the game being a profit, which it should be, but is it a profit ENOUGH to support the FISICAL YEAR? I mean, its could be a situation like RETAIL STORES. In December, sales are up because of the Christmas holidays, so many stores hand their hat on December. Even in a bad DECEMBER, its better than the other 11 months. BUT was DECEMBER a good enough month to make me a profit for the entire year?

Its obvious that the SWAC feels it needs to entertain other options, which I'm sure many cities would throw out the same thing that BHAM is throwing out. If that is the case, then since the SCG may be the BIG MONEY MAKER for the SWAC, then they may go with a location that they feel would generate more ticket sales.

I feel they are being lazy and are not being CREATIVE to get the tickets sold. They could stay in BHAM and do good.

exactly how has this game been "pushed"?

and if you put it in another city, with the same kind of "push", how do you expect the results to be any different???????

mh,

Remember that 99,9% that I spoke of further up in this post? SU Jag just proved my point, and you busted him on it. While these others on here have yapped like little chiuauahs (sp), the TRUE (and typical) response has come out.

That is all.

You Jenny sue folks slay me.

Someone calls you out for something silly that you post, and you try to make it look like someone is angry at you. You think awfully highly of yourselves.

Through all of that, I STILL didn't get an answer.

Beans,

Please deliver my paper on time this afternoon.

Thank you.

Forget it man.,

Keep posting angry messages at any QUESTION directed at bamma.
There are plenty of clear thinking, people that won't take WHERE IS THE PROFIT'S GOING into an attack on your SWEET HOME BAMMA...........damm. :goof:

And I still want to know where all the damm profit's are going.
We getting everything "free" so there should be minimum overhead expenses.

What was conference school's share last year from this game.
What was the payout to the participating schools in relation to the payout to the conference.
What was the overall gate in REAL DOLLARS.
What was the revenue in concessions, parking, etc.
What has the SWAC Office spent the money on.

Nobody has been able to google that shat up yet.

AAMU,

mh is stating what everyone else is saying is this thread. Promotion is lackluster for the SCG. What part of this is hard to understand?

These posts are simply repeating themselves but are worded differently. You are basically responding to the second part of his post in which all are saying it doesn't matter where the SCG is. It will still be  as long as the same clowns are still in office doing the same old crap. C'mon now......:whatever:

Do you agree with what his first statement says? If so, what exactly is your point regarding the 99%?

Have you asked your school president or AD?

stagga, and everybody else,

Let me just say that your questions are very, very, valid and legitimate questions that deserve to be answered. I said that in one of my first posts on this topic.

I think that AAMU ALUM's frustration comes from the fact that these questions, in many instances appear to be directed at Birmingham rather than toward the SWAC. I'M NOT ACCUSING YOU OF DOING THAT, I'M JUST MAKING A POINT.

If the SWAC would release more info on this game, maybe it would cut down on some of the confusion.

We understand and that has been addressed that it is not the case in THIS particular thread. :)

Let it go AAMU...
