If you're waiting for the SWAC to leave Birmingham . . .

. . . don't hold your breath.

(The following is an interesting article, and provides some dollar figures on the economic impact the SWAC has on B'ham)

The key words I read that is interesting that article is that Vowels will make his recommendations to the Presidents and Chancellors of our schools in January. Which basically tells me like we have posted many times on here...........Vowels has no power and this decision is not up to him. All he can do is make a recommendation. That is sad. So if our Presidents want to move then they will....

The other thing in that article that is interesting is the fact that Rudy was the one who orchestrated the move to B-ham and the Championship game. So I wonder if the Presidents want the reverse what he did. Remember Rudy had power as the commish.

My only issue with B-ham is the attendance and how the events are received by the locals. I am sure money is being spent there by SWAC fans and such. But that will happen no matter where the events are. I just want to start seeing more fans in the stands and the local community embrace the events more. We all know that you need that fill up the stadium. Our own alums and fans are not enough. You need local support. Just like you get for Classic games. So that is my only concern. I could care less about the clubs and night life after the game. I need folks in B-ham who no affliation with either school but love football want to come out to see the game.

JR,
Are you suggesting that commissioners in other conferences are so powerful that they can move the headquarters and/or championship games without consent of the schools in the conference?

As Mighty Hornet alluded to, I don't think Rudy just up and moved the SWAC HQ without the Presidents consent. Besides, if you'll recall, the Superdome and the city of New Orleans basically ran the SWAC out of town.

My only issue with B-ham is the attendance and how the events are received by the locals.

JR, I don't necessarily disagree with you here, but do you honestly believe it would be much different in any other city. Do you think that folks in Jackson will come out in droves to see A&M vs Pine Bluff? Or do you believe that folks in Shreveport will come out in droves to see Bama State vs Texas Southern, as an example.

This one will be interesting to watch, but I'd be shocked if the SWAC HQ left B'ham. The SCG and other events may move, but its doubtful that the HQ will.

But when you're talking about SWAC Presidents, anything can happen.

Deuce, I've asked that question EVERYTIME someone comes here with that attempt at an explanation for why the game should move.

Do you think the HQ would still be rent free if the SCG left the city?

The answer is NO. People will NOT come out in droves to support teams that ARE NOT their schools. They don't do it for these low end BOWL games. Shreveport may have an advantage where it will pull people from surrounding areas to the game because of the CASINOS, but not really enough to make a DENT in the attendance. Cities want people to spend money and in order to spend money, the people going to the game need to SPEND THE NIGHT. BHam is too close to SWAC schools, so is Shreveport. Having locals attend the game is NOT the answer. You really need the two schools involved to flood the city, book up the hotels, buy food, go to the game and clubs to make it work.

This is the part I don't understand.....

The SWAC gets use of the headquarters and the championship event sites rent-free

If we are getting these facilities rent-free, where are the profits? Are we paying that much in salaries, marketing, event planning, etc. that equal the small payouts the schools receive?

The SWAC must not be a moneymaker because it seems if they had to pay overhead they would be in the red.......

Now would some of you insightful people clear this up and help me understand.

And this is why I don't like the SWAC leadership.

These MoFo's are getting shat free, yet they can't release a report on where the money is going or how much is being made each year.

I say again.....................Don't matter where it is located.
The same clowns will still be running it.

JR,

Yes I do. I think the SEC Commish has big power. Also he is put in that position to make those type of decisions. However I do not think he just does it without feeling the pulse of the schools. I also think the bigger conference commishs get paid to make good decisions and if they do not, they get fired. I know the Big 10 commish has that type of power to a certain extent.

Maybe Jag-Tig can see this and comment since she is an assistant commish in the SEC.

Are you mindless enough to think that any of that would change just because the SWAC Exec Offices were located somewhere else, or the games were played in another city? Where planet are some of you people from? :(

How much do you think you'd have received if the game were held in these other locales with the teams that have been playing in the games for the past 6 years? Help me understand THAT!

Frat, I have been asking that question from the start.

Man.................Calm down.:(

He just asking where the damm money/profit is since all the facilities are FREE.................Damm. :shame:

I want to know the same thing......................If you could tell us, we would be greatful.

Stag, whenever Aluminum sees a post by a Jackson State product, his mean streak takes over and he posts out of anger. It's just the way he was raised.

Bengal E,

That's a good question, but it should be directed to the SWAC leadership, not the city of Birmingham. I'm not saying that you are directing it toward B'ham, but a lot of people on this board are. They make it seem as if B'ham is the problem, when in fact, much of the blame should be placed at the feet of the SWAC leadership.

Yes I do. The city of Birmingham has built a good relationship with the SWAC, and unlike New Orleans, Birmingham would not run the SWAC out of town, or begin to gouge them with rent. If for no other reason than the hope of regaining the SCG in the future, B'ham would likely allow the SWAC to remain rent-free, at least in the near term.

You Jenny sue folks slay me.

Someone calls you out for something silly that you post, and you try to make it look like someone is angry at you. You think awfully highly of yourselves.

Through all of that, I STILL didn't get an answer.

Beans,

Please deliver my paper on time this afternoon.

Thank you.

Dude, you're so HELL bent out of shape with your hatred for JACKSON STATE that you fail to realize that the question that was posed was a very good "political correct" question. Dude, you may need to sit buck nekid on a block of ice, cause sounds like your running an internal fever for JSU.

The End. I've said it for a long time. Bham aint the problem with that game.

btw, I don't listen to the radio much, so I guess I missed the ads for the SCG.(like I did last year, and the year before, and the year before, and the year before etc....)
Cause I'm sure the SWAC was advertising it here in Atl, with a helluva lot of SWAC alumni just a couple of hours away from Bham, right? :scared:

LOL @ MH........ That is definitely a problem with the office. I wish they would advertise everywhere. Hell they have had Bayou Classic radio spots here in Minneapolis. LOL.

Now Alum, why was Bengal E's post silly? He asked a valid question and you attacked it basically.
