Uh GR..........aint nobody white said no such a thing. Shaq did take Kobe to those Championships. At that time.......the Diesel was the most dominant big man in the game. He is not now at his age. So yeah Nash, Diaw, or Stoudamire are damn heavy to carry. Kobe is just getting to the age Shaq was when Shaq carried him around. Do you think a 36 year Kobe could get these Lakers out of the first round? We'll see how dominant he is when he is Shaq's age. I applaud his effort this season. After all that beyotching and moaning all offseason he finally decided to shut up and play ball in the regular season and in the meantime some of his team mates got better and Gasol was a great management move along with bringing D. Fisher back to run the point. That allowed Farmar to develop even more. So I can say Kudos to Phil and the management for fixing the problem. The Lakers are now a viable threat in the West and I predict they will win the West in 09 with Bynum healthy all season and full year with Gasol. San Antonio is still my choice to win the West this year

Kobe is the best all around player the Lakers have ever had. No offense to the following GREAT players, but Kareem couldn't dribble, Magic couldn't shoot nor play defense, and Wilt couldn't dribble nor shoot free throws, but Kobe does it all....shoot, dribble, pass, play defense, rebound and win championships.
In 2000 when they had to go through the Sun's and the Kings Kobe was the reason they escaped. When they got to the West finals in game 7 what did big diesel do? Shaq is a big fake who craves attention and wants everyobody to kiss his arse. Kobe was never that guy so you all took shaq side. Even though Kobe plays through injury, changed his game 3 years ago and his team let him down, and shows up to play each night. Shaq on the other hand has not played an entire season in the last 7 years. He fakes injuries all the time and reports to camp fat.
Shaq was the reason the Lakers broke up. He wanted more money and Jerry Buss was not going. No way to keep Shaq and Kobe and afford any decent role players. All of the Lakers Role players were washed up with the expetion of Robert Horry and Fisher. No way could the Lakers compete with the team and Shaq's bloated contract.
Hate on Kobe all you want but he has a young team that will only get better in the next three to four years..
One game in the 2000 playoffs Shaq fouled out Kobe stepped up to the challenge. They couldnt win without the other be real about it. Kobe was just 21 years old then, Shaq couldnt do it by himself. I remember in 94 when Hakeem the dream schooled O'neal in the finals. Shaq became a man after that.

Dude..............if the Lakers didn't have Shaq back then, it would have been no clutch free throws to be made.........hell Bobby Jones made clutch free throws for the Sixers to win sometimes. So did Danny Ainge or others on the Celtics.........but it was Bird that got them there. I am sure McHale, Parrish and Dennis Johnson all won games in the playoffs for the Celtics. But again it was Bird that carried them for the most part. Same can be said if it wasn't for Kenny Smith's 3 pointers against Utah and then Orlando.......the Rockets would have lost pivotal games in the playoffs. But we all know Olajuwon was the reason they were there in the first place. Why can't you cats accept that Shaq was dominant back then and he carried the Lakers. Hell even Robert Horry saved the Lakers arse once or twice. So did D.Fisher. Don't act like Kobe was the main reason for the Lakers success. Everything ran through the Diesel. Nobody disputes he didn't have help. But he was the main cog that made the Lakers what they were doing that run. Same as it is for the Spurs with Tim Duncan. Ginobli and Parker may win some key playoff games for the Spurs.......but the big Fundamental is the main reason for the Spurs success.
