ESPN has let go of yet another longtime NFL reporter. John Clayton, who has covered the NFL for ESPN for 23 years, has been laid off, according to Sporting News. Clayton’s ESPN Radio show in Seattle will remain in place, as the local ESPN Radio affiliates are not actually owned by ESPN. But he is done covering the league for ESPN on television and on ESPN.com

Wouldn't be surprised if FOX Sports or NFL Network picks him up.

Here's one that left on his own...

Mark Schlereth leaves ESPN for FS1

Mark Schlereth, one of the few non-star players to become fixtures at ESPN, has left the network after 16 years. As noted by Michael McCarthy of SportingNews.com, Schlereth has joined FS1.

Per McCarthy, Schlereth has a close relationship with recently-ousted FOX Sports chief Jamie Horowitz, and the move had been in the works for months.

Chances are the contract was signed before Horowitz got the boot, adding Schlereth to a lengthy list of Horowitz hires that FOX eventually will have to decide whether to keep. While some have assumed that FOX will honor all contracts negotiated by Horowitz, keep in mind that ESPN let go many employees with multiple years left on their deals.

Dang. I imagine that Skip and em might be safe but the rest might be heading to local markets lol

Still not all that shocked about Mark. His appearances on Mike And Mike diminished and you can tell he went along with SAS on First Take when I watched it (stopped watching it at the end of last year)

I heard about these as well.

Jemele was the main name rumored to be included in these cuts but I'm kind of glad to see Sportscenter getting trimmed down. They really only need the SC6, Late Night and Early morning (7AM) anyway. And I know I won't watching the AM one when I'm at home because Sage Steele will be on one of those

Coach is unique that he could go from NFL to NASCAR to WWE and not miss a beat.

That Periscope/Apple thing is something some of these HBCU outlets can utilize since it seems like HBCU sports are being pushed to the side more and more at ESPN (outside of the Celebration Bowl)

Cari Champion is NOT Beadle. I don't want her on SportsNation even if it goes back to 30 minutes. I stopped watching First Take last year because of SAS shucking too much and too much Will Cain

You could make the case that Jemele's rise is similar to Kaepernick in that she has become bigger than ESPN. Before His And Hers, she needed ESPN. Now ESPN needs her and Mike because they invested money into them because of His And Hers but took away what made the show a hit

They brought back the perv Boomer while Kenny has to leave

I'm glad I only watch ESPN strictly for sports now (especially HBCU sports). The Michael/Jemele thing was the coffin and the Le Batard thing was the nail in it
