And all money ain't bad money either. So what's the point?
Look, I understand the need to be socially conscious. I get it. But I think some of us just say shit, trying to be profound in the process, when in actuality nothing is being said at all. I have nothing against our schools coming up with alternatives methods to produce revenue, but it is FOOLISH to think that a $600K or $700K payday for playing a football game is bad money.
And contrary to what some of you think, the players (and even some coaches), actually look forward to playing these games. Gary Harrell
confirmed that much yesterday.
There are a couple of things that folks need to remember. The SWAC and MEAC both are FCS conferences. And while it is easy to take
the "whoa is us" route in creating an overblown narrative about HBCUs and money games, the SWAC and MEAC are not the only conferences playing money games. Baylor dropped 55 points on Northwestern State, Oklahoma State dropped 61 on SLU, Texas Tech dropped 69 on SFA and the list goes on.
It's way too easy for alumni and supporters of various schools to say what athletic administrators should be doing, when there are a number facts and figures that show its the alumni and supporters of these schools who aren't doing shit to give back.
A word to all HBCU ADs: Keep playing those money games if the opportunity presents itself, dammit!
